S2:214 2 Kings 13-14
Today Emma Dotter breaks down one of the shortest yet wildest stories in scripture. It’s not every day you hear of a dead man falling on the bones of another dead man and living to tell the tale. The story here is one of honor. God is honored and glorified because it is His power at work, but also there is honor in how Elisha’s bones are the ones used by God. Nothing God does is an accident. But a question to ponder is this: do passages like these strengthen your faith or shake it? Emma Dotter is joined by today’s devo writer and The young adults Director of Operations at Watermark, Sam Scott. Sam and Emma leave us with two takeaways from this passage: God is going to enact justice for his people; and we are not the hero in this story, we are also guilty of sin like these people. God offers hope so that we do not have to end this way. Stand under the waterfall of grace, because God’s justice against sin will be either on you or will be put on God’s Son. Additional Scripture References in this podcast: 1 John 1:8, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” James 5:16, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” Want to learn more about the porch? BONUS: 2 KINGS OVERVIEW
bonusThe southern kingdom, Judea is captured by the Babylonians. Today, Emma Dotter does an overview of the book of 2 Kings. The key word for the book is the word exile. We see in this book the passing of the “spiritual torch” from Elijah to Elisha, prophets for the nation of Israel (the northern kingdom). They worshipped worthless idols and became worthless themself, however the book ends with a glimmer of hope, the line of David is still continuing. bonusEmma Dotter is joined today by Christ Sherrod, Watermark’s Marriage & Family Director. The book is really saying that all of creation is good, but it is never intended to satisfy us. It’s not that life has no point, but that these things are “hevel.” The word “hevel” means “mere breath”. Christ said that the book has made him a joyful realist! Accept that life is fleeting, enjoy this life, but do not forget that this life is “hevel.” Book, Living life Backwards Psalm 39: 5, “Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!” Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain…” Ecclesiastes 3:8, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. The whole point of the temple was for God to be with his people, Israel. Today Emma Dotter is joined by today’s devo writer and Watermark Elder, Ben Caldwell. These friends challenge us that we don’t want to miss the hope that is found in this passage. God brings restoration knowing full well that his people would rebel. We need to long for intimacy with God more than any temporal thing. Additional Scriptures used in this passage: 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Proverbs 13:24, “A man who spares the rod hates his son…” Hebrews 12:11, “For the moment of all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later is yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14 Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham

S2:191 1 Kings 6
In today’s podcast, Emma Dotter walks through the continuing steps in the temple construction, and how this excerpt applies to our lives today. It has always been God’s desire to be with his people, but his presence comes with a condition: be obedient. While obedience is a necessity, and other essential aspect of the Christian life is silence. Silence before the Lord, and silence to hear Him speak. John 1:29, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Hebrews 9:12, “But by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.” 1 Corin. 3:16, “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Samuel 7:13, “He shall build a house for my name and I will establish that throne of his kingdom forever.” 1 Kings 1-2, Solomon rises to power. 1 Kings 3, Solomon’s power approved. 1 Kings 5:1-7, Solomon makes decisions. 1 King 5:12, Solomon’s decisions are approved.
