So, for the next few minutes, let’s link our arms together and embrace health care freedom. Join me as I demystify homeopathy — what was once considered an “esoteric” paradigm — into an understandable, reproducible, safe and effective health care solution available to everyone. This is the medicine you’ve been searching for – my unique brand of homeopathy — PRACTICAL Homeopathy®. In this podcast, I will offer you my decades of clinical experience as a practicing homeopath and years of teaching tens of thousands of students, so that you can become the hero of your family and community. This is true health freedom, my friends. This is my PRACTICAL Homeopathy®. INTRODUCTION Kate: (01:30) Hi, Joette. Joette: Hi, Kate. Kate: Hi. We’ve got so much information to cover today. So, let’s get going. Today, we’re going to talk about emergencies and a great remedy to have on hand. So, Joette, I think we should start out by first talking about what is an emergency — or how are we defining an emergency? Joette: When you think about the very nature of an emergency is that you don’t know it’s coming. You don’t know when it’s going to happen. It comes out of the blue. And given that makes it an unknown, it requires something important. What is that? That we plan in advance? That we’re prepared in advance. So, if there’s anything we know in life is that we will encounter an emergency at some time. Someone is going to get a burn, a stomach flu, someone’s going to sprain their ankle. So, it would behoove us to not only know the medicines for the most common emergencies but also to own them in the corresponding potencies. Know exactly what the medicine is and have the right potency on hand. Kate: So, Joette, yeah, how can people do that? I mean, that’s the next question, right?   KNOW THE MEDICINES FOR THE MOST COMMON EMERGENCIES Joette: (02:50) Yeah. The way they do that — the way I did it when I was first learning homeopathy — was that I figured what were the most likely emergencies to occur with my family at that time with only one child, and then I chose medicines accordingly. So, until we get to that point, though, when we’re unprepared, we worry all the time: that the child will get sick, that the child will get strep throat or chickenpox or conjunctivitis or something like that. But we should not worry because these illnesses — especially childhood diseases — are not what the most concerning aspects of childhood are. The real concern that mothers should have are the dangers to babies and children due to accidents. So, we’ve got two categories that I like to look at. Number one: regular childhood illnesses. And we need to know how to deal with these to make the mother less worried. You just have to learn how to … you have to know how to do this. Now, we’re not going to be talking about regular childhood illnesses today, but instead we’re going to talk about the concern of accidents, emergencies, because those are the true greatest threat to children and babies. Most people think that it’s infections; it’s sore throats, et cetera. No, it’s emergencies, accidents, burns, et cetera. So, as I said, where do we begin? You asked me, where do we begin? Well, it’s with the composition of your family and those around you. So, if you live in a retirement home or those around you are older, you should know the homeopathic medicines for issues such as insomnia or grief or urinary tract infections or even lacerations, arthritis, preparation for surgery. You need to know this. So, if you’re a grandparent that frequently watches your grandchildren, you need to know the remedies, for example, injuries from falls. But if you’re a middle-aged woman and you’ve finished with menopause, you want to know the

Indeed, you, too, can heal yourself and your family through my brand of homeopathy — Practical Homeopathy®. INTRODUCTION Kate: (01:30) Hi, I am Kate, and I want to welcome you to today’s podcast. I am super excited to talk today about connection. That’s one of the things that we’re going to share with you today, and it’s been one of the most important parts of my life throughout the last, I would say, 5 to 10 years. Because I’ve met dear friends from all over the world, and these women — these beautiful women — have become a part of my life — an integral part of my life, actually. And I don’t know what I would do without them. I met many of my dearest friends through Gateway to Homeopathy study groups, and it’s just been an amazing relationship that I’ve had. And it sounds funny to say, but some of my closest friends are really all over the United States and the world. And so today I want to introduce you to two beautiful women who have met in study groups, actually through the Academy of Practical Homeopathy®. And so, I want to welcome you to the podcast. Robin and Katie, welcome. Robin and Katie: Thank you. Thank you. Great to be here. Kate: So, I want to get to know you just a little bit. Robin, tell us a little bit about yourself. Robin: So, my husband and I, our two boys, we are in southeast Idaho. Picked up and moved from California about three years ago and randomly showed up in a town called Pocatello. Love it here and love being able to dive into homeopathy. We are very much of a people who like to take ownership of our health and of our lives, and so we take the time to really dig into that. But for a while, I just didn’t know why we were even here. And here we are, and I’ve been able to meet Katie, and it’s been a blessing to be here. Kate: Yeah. So, now you know one of the reasons that you ended up there, maybe. Robin: Exactly. It was so random, but here we are. And with that, too, Academy of Practical Homeopathy® — both Katie and I joined last year. So, it has been a fun ride. We’ll dig into that a bit during this podcast. Kate: Okay. Katie, tell us a little bit about you. Katie: I grew up in a very remote town in Idaho. We didn’t have a doctor. We didn’t have a hospital anywhere nearby. The nearest large town that we could even go Christmas shopping was three hours away. Kate: Wow! Katie: And so we learned to be our own doctor, to tend our own things, our own injuries, our own illnesses. And I’m so glad that we learned not to rely heavily on the medical system. Sometimes I’ve had relatives that have had to be taken by Life Flight because of emergencies. Really glad that we have it when it’s needed. But for the rest of the time, we just learned how to be self-sufficient for our health, and I’m so grateful for that. So, I didn’t know what to study in school. I tried massage. And then I got a degree in sports medicine and tried to learn more about supplements, herbs, essential oils. And finally, finally, I was introduced to homeopathy, and I have found the ultimate medicine, and it’s wonderful, and I love it so much. Kate: Never looked back, right? Katie: That’s right. That’s right. Kate: Yeah, I hear a lot of people say that. That’s what happened for me, too. You go through all of these other natural healing paradigms and when you get to homeopathy — which, unfortunately, is usually last (I don’t know why that is) — but it’s like: This is home. This is what I’ve been looking for.

This is true health freedom, my friends. This is my Practical Homeopathy®. Kate: Hi everyone, I’m Kate, and I am here today with Joette Calabrese. Welcome, Joette. Joette: Thank you, Kate. Welcome to you, too. Kate: Yeah, it’s your podcast, but I’m welcoming you! I wanted to just say a little shout-out: Hello to those who might be new to your podcast and those who have been listening. But we’ve taken a little break from podcasts, and so we would just want to welcome you back or welcome you for the first time. This is a podcast all about Practical Homeopathy®. So maybe, Joette, just take a minute and tell us who you are and what this is about. INTRODUCTION Joette: (02:13) Well, my name again is Joette Calabrese, and we have kind of this little universe of information on our website and associated with the website. So, we’re going to talk about each of those components that we’ve put together for the past many years, and then what we’ve been doing recently. So, I’m a practicing homeopath. I have been for 36 years, actually teaching for 36 years … probably more in practice closer to 34 years. And now since that time, I’m spending a great deal of time teaching. It’s one of my great joys. Kate: And your goal — one of your goals … your big goal — is to bring homeopathy … Can you share that with us? Joette: Yes. My goal has been to bring homeopathy into every home and especially in the hands of the women — the moms, the grandmothers, those who are the caretakers, those who take care of children and grandchildren — but also for those taking care of their elderly parents, their pets, their livestock. So, whatever your family is comprised of, you, as the person in the home, need to know this information. Now, this does not mean that we don’t also have many people who are in our courses who are medical doctors and naturopaths and functional M.D.s, conventional M.D.s and nurses and chiropractors and physician’s assistants and et cetera, et cetera, but … Kate: Dads and EMTs. Joette: Yeah. We also have dads and EMTs. That’s right. We do. But the focus is to get this information to the hands of those who are at home, taking care of the family. That has been stripped for a long time from the hands of women, and now we’re going to put it back into their capable hands and give them the tools, so they don’t feel as though they need to run to a professional at every turn or that they need to use drugs at every turn. And the more — I always tell folks — the more they learn, the less angst there will be in your life. Kate: So, Joette, I know on your website you offer something for everyone — every budget — starting with blogs and podcasts, which there’s no charge. And you’ve been doing your blogs for how long now? Joette: You know what, Kate? I’m not sure. I think

I want to welcome you to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I have a lot of Moms with Moxie with me today. I’m so excited to hear their stories. I haven’t had much of a chance to get to know these ladies, but I do know one of them pretty well. We’ve gotten to know each other over the past year.   I’m very excited to hear what you all have been doing with your group. You’ve been meeting together now for a while, studying homeopathy together and kind of “doing life,” because I understand you met through a homeschool group. So, you’ve known each other for quite a while, and you’re on a journey together. I would love for the listeners to hear your stories and how you guys interact, how your study group works and what you guys do. I want to welcome you to the podcast.   And I want to first introduce my friend, Beth. She’s here, and she’s going to tell us a little bit more about the group and introduce you to these lovely ladies.   Beth …   Beth: Hi, Kate. Thanks so much. We’re all very excited to be here. I’m here with five of my good friends, and we meet about once a week. We just love homeopathy. It started with one of our homeschool moms mentioning it in our group and telling us, you know, “This is really cool.”   We were like, “Oh, well, we’ve got essential oils. We’ve got all these other things.”   She sent us to Joette’s website, and we’ve all just fallen in love with it. We’ve had so much success. And just being together once a week and talking about things and supporting each other through text messages has been amazing.   Kate: I know that you guys all met, like you said, through homeschool group, and then Suzy’s enthusiasm was contagious.   Beth: Yes.   Kate: That’s awesome. Actually, there are two Suzis on the podcast today. That’s going to be a little interesting. We have Suzy with a Y and Suzi with an I.   It’s Suzy with a Y that got you guys all fired up about homeopathy. I love that you said, “Oh, we have our essential oils. We’re fine. We have all these other natural modalities.” I think you said when we were talking earlier, Beth, that it’s like, once you find homeopathy, you’re like, “Ahhh!!”   That’s it! I mean, that is what you’ve been looking for all this time, right? Is that how you all felt?   Beth: Yes, absolutely.   Introduction Kate: Can you just introduce us to these ladies, and maybe you all could share a little bit about where you’re from and your story or your family? We would love to get to know you.   Beth: I’ll start with Suzy with a Y, our enthusiast. Suzy is still a homeschool mom. A couple of us are alumni, but she’s still doing homeschooling. She has a background in working in business and got into hospice and really loves to help people that have different issues. And homeopa

Kate: Hi. This is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I have a very sweet friend here with me today. Her name is Elaine.   I’m excited to talk to you, Elaine, because we’ve just been chatting on and on about homeopathy. And, actually, I had to stop us because we were just sharing so much information — so much good information — that I wanted Joette’s listeners to hear what we were saying.   I’m excited because you have a lot of things to share. You’ve studied homeopathy quite extensively. You’re in school. You’ve taken quite a few of Joette’s courses. You help other people. You get calls. You just told me about a veterinary that called you. You have a lot to share. I am just thrilled to welcome you to the podcast, Elaine.   Elaine: Thank you for having me, Kate. I’m really excited to be here.   Kate: Yes. Tell us about your background.   Elaine: Well, my background is I am actually a college instructor, a nutritionist. I mostly teach nutrition. Sometimes I teach a drug course for the criminal justice students. I love my job. I love working with older, college age, as opposed to young kids. I have two grown daughters. One seriously believes in homeopathy. One is torn, not sure. So that’s a little bit about me.   I’ve dabbled in homeopathy years and years ago when my kids were really little, but I really only knew a little bit about Arnica, Calendula, Oscillococcinum. That’s kind of about my limit. I knew I believed in it, but I really didn’t know where to go. I didn’t even know how to find a homeopath, if I’d wanted to.   Kate: Right. You were telling me about the tubes, and all you knew was you pick up a homeopathic medicine and what it says to use it for on the tube.   Elaine: I remember Thuja because Thuja, it is so common today. I’ve been hearing about it, but I remember picking up Thuja and going warts. Okay, I don’t have warts. I put it back on the shelf. There was only one thing on each tube. Now of course, we know each remedy takes care of multiple things, but they can only put, like, one thing on the tube. I was kind of confused by that, so I really left it alone. And they didn’t have all these wonderful books that they have today.   Kate: Right, so many resources. In fact, we were just comparing materia medicas and repertories and having fun reading the introduction to those.   If you own a materia medica or a repertory, I want to encourage you, even the Banerji protocol book, go to the beginning and read because there’s a lot of extra information that you can learn in those books — just a wealth of information. So, definitely start at the beginning.   Let’s talk about how you found Joette and what you’ve done with homeopathy — kind of your progression throughout the years since you’ve learned that it’s more than just what it says on that little tube.   Elaine: I guess the hardcore stuff started four or five years ago when my asthma got really b

Today, I’m joined by a wonderful Mom with Moxie. This mom has moxie — let me tell you. Her name is Rachel.   Rachel, welcome to the podcast.   Rachel: Hi, Kate. Kate: Hi. I’m so excited to have you here. This is going to be a gripping podcast. You are going to talk today about venomous bites, right, Rachel?   Rachel: Yes, more than one. Kate: More than one. Not one, not two, but three different venomous bites that you have used homeopathy to overcome. I’m excited to hear your story, and also for you to tell us about how homeopathy just really meshes with — or is an integral part of — your life and all the important parts of your life; how it is really intertwined in each of those areas. I’m excited for you to share your story with the listeners today.   Let’s get started by having you just tell us a little bit about yourself, Rachel.   Rachel: Yes, sure. I’m married with four kids and a whole bunch of animals. I live in California. Yeah, homeopathy just touches all the important points of my life: family, ministry, helping other people, helping my animals and my plants thrive, and also feeding me intellectually. Like Joette says, “Intellectually delicious.” It is! It feeds my soul. So, I am thankful to God for homeopathy. It does, it touches all of the important points of my life.   Kate: I know when I had younger kids, it was so important to have that something that I could do with my mind that fed me and helped me to continue to grow — because, I mean, raising kids is amazing. I love being a mom. But it’s also nice to have that thing that you can do to continue to grow and learn and then turn around and use it to help your family and others like you said.   How old are your kids, Rachel?   Rachel: They are 12 all the way down to two. So, I’ve got a houseful. Kate: You’re a busy mom. You don’t have time to figure this out as the situation occurs. You really need to know what remedies to use and have them on hand and be ready to go, I would imagine.   Rachel: Yes, very well said. There are things that you can leisurely say, “Oh, I’ll go research that.” But sometimes, you got to know — on the spot — figure it out. And so studying ahead of time is huge.   Getting into Homeopathy Kate: How did you get into homeopathy or come to find out about it? Rachel: Yes, our story is … it all started with a duck, actually.   One of our ducks, he was this special heritage breed that we had to wait like two years for the back orders to be fulfilled before we could get him mailed to us. He had a problem. It’s this thing that happens sometimes where they just keep getting abscesses on their feet.   We called the breeder, and he said, “Oh, I’m so sorry. Once that shows up, they never get rid of it. You can try to treat it, but they’ll just always get it again and again. And he is not good breeding stock. You don’t want to breed him.”   We were crestfallen! I just refused to give up on this guy. We had tried. Actually, we tried what the breeder said. We tried the a

You’ve already led nine groups along with a friend of yours through the Gateway I and Gateway II.   But before we get to that, I want to give you an opportunity to just introduce yourself to the listeners.   Julie: Sure, Kate. I was a nurse for about 12 years in pretty much every area of the hospital that you could imagine. I did infectious disease. I did cardiac for a while. Emergency department was the longest. I did enjoy the emergency room, but I did a little experiment while I was in the emergency room.   I asked patients who came into the triage base what their medications were for. I said, “I know what they’re for, but do you know what they’re for?”   Invariably, they would tell me they did not know what they were for. Then we go to the next one. They would say, “Oh, that one I know what that one’s for, that’s to heal the side effects of this one.”   It just went on down the line. I started seeing a really clear pattern there with the medicines that we were giving through the system of medicine. Eventually, through some life circumstances found homeopathy and switched over.   Kate: Tell me about that transition, Julie. You just decided, “I just can’t do this anymore because I’m not seeing these patients get better long term”? How did you make that switch?   Julie: Well, the switch was with my son — my oldest son — he was getting croup. It was like clockwork twice a year. That would probably be my first really true introduction to homeopathy because I thought there has got to be a better way.   We would take him into the ER twice a year; his oxygen stats were super low. I’d have to rush there; I was so worried that they were going to have to intubate him every single time that we went. He would get shots of racemic epi which required heart monitoring. He would get Decadron which were steroid shots, and they were giving him horrible night terrors that we couldn’t wake him from.   It was taking forever for him to get well. I just knew that it was because he wasn’t getting rest. He wasn’t getting what he needed. His body, in some way, wasn’t getting what it needed.   So, I just had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that something needed to change. I prayed about it. There was one day that I thought, “I wonder if these little blue tubes of medicine could help.” I started

Kate: Welcome back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. With me today is a dear friend of mine. Welcome, Tracey.   Tracey: Awww. Thank you, Kate. It’s nice to be with you.   Kate: Thank you. For those of you who want to get to know more about Tracey, go to Podcast 87, and you can hear her story.   But today we’re going to be talking about something that’s near and dear to our hearts. Tracey and I work together — but not only do we work together, we share a very special bond that was created because of our moms. Tracey, you and I …we live far apart from each other, many, many states apart.   Tracey: Yes.   Kate: But Tracey, even though we’ve never met in person, I can honestly say that you’re one of the few people that “gets” me.   Tracey: I feel the same way. You have been a lifeline for me more often than not. Thank you.   Kate: Yes, like seriously, like tears are welling up in my eyes as I say that because you’re just so dear to me, and I know that you’re always there to listen when we’re struggling.   I’ll explain to you why that is in just a minute. But to give you a little background, our mothers both had a stroke several weeks apart a little over two years ago. Crazy, right, Tracey?   Tracey: It was incredible, Kate, because one moment you were keeping me afloat by sending me your care and concern and lifting me up. Then a few weeks later, you were in the same boat. It was surreal. It was surreal.   Kate: Yes. Right. I mean, that whole time seems surreal in my life. It still kind of does anyway, right?   Tracey: Yeah. Yeah.   Kate: Are we living in a dream?   Life has been extremely interesting over the last two years. I know you feel the same way; you’re nodding your head right now.   Tracey: That’s one way to put it — extremely interesting.   Kate: Yes, interesting. To me, this whole thing has made me aware that to live each day to its fullest because you never know when your life is going to change. It’s gut wrenching, and I don’t even know how to put it into words. How …   Tracey: It almost makes it feel like life is fragile. I don’t mean that to sound pessimistic. We should be grateful for every day that’s going smoothly and well. But things can change in the blink of an eye. So, we have to be appreciative.   Road of Change Kate: Right. For both of us and our moms, I know that that has been the road. It’s been a road of change daily, just trying to navigate this.   But in case you haven’t noticed by now, Tracey and I are going to spend some time talking about what it’s like to walk along this road with our moms and to navigate their care. So, we’re going to spend this podcast talking about some remedies that have been helpful for us and just some tips about walking down this road in a way that is honoring to our moms and in a way that hopefully is helpful to them physically.   I thought we could start off by giving everyone a sneak peek into our days with our moms — what that’s like — and just to help people to understand what that looks like. So, when we talk about the homeopathic medicines, you’ll have a little bit of a picture as to what’s going on. Tracey, go ahead.   Tracey: Sounds perfect.   Ka

Kate: Hi, this is Kate. I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, I have a special lady with me, and her name is Rachna. I’m excited because Joette sent me a message and asked me to interview her for the podcast.   When I saw her name come through, I was happy because I met her in a study group. So, I feel like I’ve known her for a while now. I’m really excited, actually, to get to hear more of her story and for you guys to hear all the ways that she’s used homeopathy — because she sent me a really long list of some things that she’s done successfully with homeopathy.   So, I just want to welcome you to the podcast, Rachna.   Rachna: Thank you, Kate, for having me. It’s an honor. I look forward to speaking with you.   Kate: Yes, I’m excited. Let’s get started by … if you wouldn’t mind just telling us a little bit about yourself?   Rachna: Yes, absolutely. I’m married. I’m a mom of two. I have a set of twin boys. I am a conventionally trained physician from India. I came to the U.S. for higher education. The plan was to go back, but after I finished school, I was offered a great job at one of the top-ranking cancer hospitals in the U.S. It was too lucrative of an offer to give up, and I decided to work for a few years, get some experience and then go back to India.   But you know things don’t always go as planned in life. I ended up staying back here. And the rest is history, as they say.   Kate: Well, I’m glad that you stayed here. You sent me some notes before this interview. I thought it was really intriguing what you wrote in the last paragraph. I was wondering. Would you be willing to just read a little bit of what you wrote for the listeners? Because I want them to get an idea of how important homeopathy is to you.   From Skeptic to Healer   Rachna: Absolutely. Well, homeopathy has completely changed the direction of my life. I could never have imagined a year ago that studying this great medicine would be one of the best decisions of my life. It has made my life more purposeful, more meaningful. It’s so empowering as a mom to be able to cure my family on my own. It has made me the healer in my household. So, just like Joette says, “This is God’s medicine.” I’m just in awe of this wonderful medicine.   Kate: It’s very interesting that you refer to homeopathy and how it’s empowered you to be the healer in your home when you actually have a conventional medical background.   I would love for the listeners to hear just a little bit about your process of how you came to feel this way about homeopathy when you had these tools already — which I’m sure like many of us, we’re grateful for the use of those medicines or surgeries when it’s needed. But just let me hear a little bit of the background as far as that goes — like, how you came to homeopathy, or how it came to mean so much to you.   Rachna: Absolutely. Well, being from India, I was all too familiar with homeopathy. It’s very popular in India as you probably already know, but I never had any faith. I was very skeptical.   Since I was so deeply entrenched in Western medicine, I never really thought that those little white pills could do anything. I never gave homeopathy a second thought. If anything, I thought it had more of a placebo effe

Today’s podcast is going to be a bit different because we have not only one Mom with Moxie with us but actually four Moms with Moxie.   I met all of these special ladies that I now consider friends in the Gateway to Homeopathy study groups over the years. So, we wanted to have them on the podcast to give you a little insight into the Gateway study groups, and to hear from each of them about their experience with homeopathy.   I know you’ll enjoy listening to them as they share from their hearts today. Michele and I have been meeting together on these study groups for quite a long time. I feel like you’re one of my best friends, and we’ve never actually met in person, which is really interesting. But we talk every day. It all started with the study groups. With that, Michele, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?   Michele: Well, I’m from Chico, California. Kate and I live quite away from each other. We just connected so much with these study groups. I’m a mom of five boys and a husband. We have a little grocery store in Chico. I am just having so much fun with Kate leading these study groups now and meeting these women from all over the world and just making great friends.   Kate: Michele, you’re actually on another podcast. I interviewed you on Podcast 93. If people want to hear more from you, they can listen to that podcast.   Michele: Yes.   Kate: Great. Now let’s go to the Michelle with two Ls.   Michelle: Hi Kate. Good to see you.   Kate: Good to see you, too.   Michelle: I’m from Chicago. I’m a chiropractor and a certified functional medicine practitioner. I am a mother of two teenagers. I have a husband who’s also in practice with me.   Kate: Great, thank you. Great to see you here today.   Michelle: Thank you.   Kate: Let’s go to Tina.   Tina: Thanks for having me. I really appreciate this. I’m Tina from Bangor, Maine. I have three children, a husband and a couple of businesses. I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned.   Kate: Yay! All right. Last, but not least, Hillary.   Hillary: Hello. I’m Hillary. I live in Washington State. I’ve been using homeopathy for about three years, and I love it. I’m just glad to be here.   Gateway to Homeopathy Study Group Kate: Let’s get started by talking about the place where we all met. That is the Gateway to Homeopathy study groups.   For those of you who may not be familiar, Joette has a Gateway to Homeopathy study guide, I and II. We all met there. Kate: Welcome back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m Kate, and I’m here today with a Mom with Moxie. She is a wife, a mother, homemaker, an educator. She loves her grandchildren. She’s a fantastic study group leader. She’s also an amazing advocate for homeopathy. But we’ll get into that in just a little bit. First, I want to welcome Cathi to the podcast.   Hi Cathi!   Cathi: Hi Kate, thank you so much for having me.   Kate: Yes, I’m very excited to get to know you. We both lead study groups, so I feel like I know you from seeing you a lot on Joette’s Find Your Study Group page.   Cathi: Absolutely. I feel like we’re kindred spirits.   Kate: Yeah, yes. I’m excited to hear your story. Just to give our listeners a little heads-up: One of the big things that you’ve used homeopathy for that you’re going to talk about is allergies.   All right, so let’s get started. Cathi, tell us a little bit about yourself if you would.   Cathi: Yes, I am a wife and a mother. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 32 years. I have four children — two married with their own families and two still living at home — and I have four beautiful grandchildren. I’m really blessed they all live close by.   There have been times where one of my daughter’s family lived further away. That’s a really a neat part of my homeopathy journey in that I was able to help her with my grandson with a situation. It was so empowering because we just did a few texts. I knew what to do because of my study group, and I was able to help her help my grandson get better.   Kate: Awww, now tell us about your journey to homeopathy.   Journey to Homeopathy Cathi: Well, you mentioned allergies. It is kind of funny that my journey to homeopathy was in a large part because of the allergies that run in my family. When I was a young mother, I did my very best to keep my children healthy — to keep my family healthy — but they were prone to allergies. As I said, it is common in my family. My husband has environmental allergies, and all four of my children had allergies.   I remember in the early days when I was a young mother trying my best to use the over-the-counter medications that I knew of to treat their symptoms. What usually happened was I would seemingly treat a symptom, and then a short time later, it would come back with a vengeance. Before you knew it, we’d end up in the pediatrician’s office, and more often than not, they would be on another antibiotic.   As I look back now, I think we were just on an antibiotic merry-go-round. It would be one antibiotic after another after another. What eventually happened was that the symptoms continued to grow worse. We were referred to a specialist — actually a couple of different specialists — one of them being an allergy specialist who recommended allergy shots, among other things. And we did that whole recommendation. We didn’t see any improvement. Probably we saw worsening along the way.   At one point, I remember being referred to a specialist for my four-year-old daughter. It was recommended that she had surgery, and she was scheduled to have her sinuses scraped. That was a big deal! Because being four years old, she had to be put under. Even just doing the MRI ahead of time, they had to put her under so that they could have her completely still to do the MRI.   It just seemed that we were constantly in the offices of the doctors an

Kate: Hi, this is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today is another Mom with Moxie podcast. I have a wonderful mom here whose name is Lisa.   Lisa has a story that I believe a lot of you have as well. If you feel that you’ve tried so many things … You’ve tried essential oils; you’ve tried herbs; and you’re stuck. You just don’t know where to go. You still have issues, and you’re not getting to the point of healing that you want to be at.   I think you’re going to want to hear Lisa’s story because that’s exactly what happened to her. With that, I want to welcome and invite Lisa to share her story with us.   Lisa, so thankful that you’re here today.   Lisa: Hi, Kate. Thanks for having me.   I have a long history of holistic medicine as well as traditional Western medicine. I went to school to become a registered dietitian, and I worked in hospitals for about 10 years. Then I moved into education.   I have had lots of health problems that started from infancy that continued on well into my 50s.   One of the exciting things that happened to me is when I was at my last legs of feeling like I was never going to regain my health, I heard a summit where Joette was speaking. (And to be honest with you, I don’t remember which it was. I think it was probably around gastrointestinal health.) She was talking about IBS and some other protocols.   From there, I connected with her. Then that was the beginning of the improvement of my health. Without homeopathy, I can’t imagine that I would be where I am today.   Kate: Well, I’m anxious for the listeners to get to hear more about how you have gotten to that place of healing today and more about your time with Joette. But I want to step back for just a minute and talk about your history and how you grew up — because you have actually a pretty fascinating history with your parents and their interest in alternative medicine.   So, give us a little background here about your grandfather and your mother, and what they did.   Alternative Routes and Other Background History Lisa: Sure. My grandfather was, I consider, a visionary. In the 1940s, he went to Chicago to study to become a chiropractor. Back then, chiropractors were actually part of physiotherapy or what we now call physical therapy.   But he came back to New Hampshire after that training, and he raised my mother and her sister in a more of a holistic manner. So, my mother grew up in that alternative medicine background.   Then when I was young, and my brother was young, we were both having health issues. Mine were related to bowel, and my brother’s were related to chronic ear infections.   She figured out that it was food-related — specifically dairy — and she was having a hard time finding whole foods in the area that we live. So, she decided to open a natural food store. I was seven years old at that time, and I grew up in the health food industry.   One of the things that was interesting about growing up in the health food industry in the mid-to-late 70s and the 80s is that if you went to a health food store at that time, you were thought of as being a “hippie.” I’m dati

Women and men worldwide are taking back control of their families’ health and learning how to heal their bodies naturally, safely and effectively.   So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration — you need as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: Hi, this is Kate. I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m here today with Joette. We are going to talk about regaining wellness with homeopathy.   But how do we get started? And it’s not what you might think.   I feel like I say that often, Joette: “But it’s not what you might think.”   We’re going to put a little twist on that today and take a step back and look at the whole picture. Tell us what that means, Joette? What are we going to talk about today?   Side Effects of Supplements, Vitamins and Medications   Joette: Well, the biggest picture that I would like to look at today is the side effects of supplements and vitamins and medications, of course, and how they reveal more than we think they do. If we’re paying attention, we can see aspects of our health diminishing as a result of them.   Kate: In fact, that might be the very thing that’s standing in the way, and so to speak, “blocking” us from progressing in our healing.   Joette: You bet. In homeopathy, we have a phrase called, “There’s an obstacle to cure.” I’ve seen it happen far too many times with medications, but I don’t know that people think much about vitamins and certain supplements.   Now, not all supplements. Let me also say that if the supplement is made up of 100% … I don’t know … honey, or made from some ground-up dehydrated vegetables, we’re not talking about that. I’m talking about supplements that have synthetics in them and ingredients that are difficult to pronounce. That’s when I pull back and say, “That’s not such a good idea.”   First, let me say that we can start with meds.   There’s no such thing as a conventional drug without side effects.   Just because you’ve become accustomed to it doesn’t mean there are no side effects. I’m going to say it again: there is no such thing as a conventional drug without side effects. There must be side effects. Otherwise, the drug will not act.   Now, that sounds maybe like it’s flying in the face of logic. But if you’re using something that is of gross substance (meaning it’s not diluted such as homeopathy and then succussed and diluted and succussed and diluted and diluted, et cetera) what remains in the original substance has to have a downside to its upside.   It doesn’t mean that conventional drugs don’t have value. It just means you have to kind of weigh it out. Because if you have surgery coming up, you’re going to have to have, perhaps, general anesthesia. I don’t think I’d want surgery without general anesthesia, but there’s a downside.   The downside is you might have headaches; you might have long term brain fog.   Kate: Nausea.   Joette: Nausea, neuropathy, there are many side effects that are associated with general anesthesia. But if you need that surgery, then you just have to accept it.   That’s where I say let’s save those meds for those times — because you don’t know what’s forthcoming.   You don’t know if you’re going to have an accident. You don’t know if you’re going to fall off a cliff or get hit by a Zamboni. You don’t know what’s going to happen in your life … fall off a horse, like you did, and break your arm in two places, et cetera, et cetera. You don’t know when that’s going to happen, so you want to save — if you possibly can — the use of conventional drugs for those times in which they’re truly needed.   What I find, however, is that folks use drugs and take them every day for chronic conditions — sometimes conditions that aren’t even medical, as far as I’m concerne

And now, let’s get started with the podcast:     “Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O …” Kate: Welcome back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I bet you’re wondering what Old MacDonald’s farm and homeopathy have to do with one another. Well, I actually just wanted to listen to Joette sing again.   Welcome, Joette, to the podcast today.   Joette: I love working with you, Kate. Kate: Because we’re silly, that’s why.   Joette: Yes, I know it’s fun. To do this or not, the podcasts must go out!! Kate: So, we’re going to talk about animals and homeopathy today.   Just a little teaser, if you haven’t seen it already, by the time this podcast is aired, the kids’ curriculum that you’re producing should be out and have started. We’re pretty excited about that. We’re in the mode of talking about animals and what homeopathic medicines to use — along with the medicines for humans as well. But in this course, we are going to be discussing a lot of the homeopathics for animal issues.   So, we’re going to focus in on that today, right?   Joette: The Ultimate Cool Kids’ Guide to Homeopathy: Become a Revolutionary, Independent Thinker with Practical Homeopathy®. Kate, you’re giving yourself too little credit. Kate is the lead person who is organizing and putting this all together and helping me produce it. Basically, you’re producing it, and I’m helping you. Kate: I’m just using your materials to put it together, so, we’re a good team. I’m super-glad to be doing it.   Today, Joette, I want you to share some of your stories of how you’ve used homeopathy in the past with some of your animals — of which you’ve had many. Let’s start off with a cow story. How about that?   Joette: Yes, well, so I want to put it in perspective because if anyone’s been following me, then you know that I live in South Florida, and I don’t treat animals so much anymore.   But we raised our children in the country, south of Buffalo. And we had a small farm — 15 acres — and it was kind of a “hobby” farm of sorts. We had ducks and chickens and goats and down the road were llamas, and cows and horses. And so, it was really a great place for me to learn how to treat animals, and to live around animals! Even though I’ve always been a city girl, it was a great opportunity for me. You want to hear a cow story? Kate: Yes, I know you have a lot of stories with animals. But I think there’s one in particular about a cow that it was a dire situation, and you helped the cow.   With a Moo-Moo Here… Joette: Yes. Let me also preface this by saying that for those who believe that homeopathy is just placebo: I don’t know how a cow would be able to pick up on the intention of the farmer giving a specific homeopathic medicine. So, if it shows anything, it shows the efficacy of this medicine, and that it is absolutely not placebo.   So, one day, I got a call. At that time, I had a brick and mortar office, and I got a call from someone I knew whose cow had just birthed its calf and was dying.   This farmer was a seasoned farmer and had seen this happen many times: It’s called milk fever. The medical term is hypocalcemia. I was unfamiliar with it; I’m not a vet; I don’t have a lot of experience. My study was in anatomy, physiology and pathology for humans, certainly not veterinary study.   I didn’

I’m happy that you’ve joined me for my podcast today. You’re in for a treat. From my virtual classroom, I’m privileged to see how homeopathy is transforming lives all over the globe. Their successes inspire me. They’re glorious and powerful, and I can’t keep their triumphs a secret. I want you to hear the excitement my students experience, too. So, you can be inspired by their unique stories.   With the help from Kate, my reporter, I bring you a podcast series I call, “Moms with Moxie.” Sometimes we even interview “Dads with Audacity” or “Teens with Tenacity.” See how regular mothers and others — average folks who love healing those around them — have gone from freaking to fabulous by simply applying what they’ve learned using what I call Practical Homeopathy®. Kate: Welcome back to the Practical Homeopathy podcast and another great Mom with Moxie episode.   It’s about to get personal and real on this episode of the podcast. I think it’s safe to say that our guest on today’s podcast has had times of heartbreak, which have taught her more about homeopathy and inspired her beyond what she could have ever imagined when she first learned about homeopathy.   With a super-interesting background and now a life changing passion for homeopathy, she is excited to share her successes and challenges with us — and anyone who will listen. I’m thrilled that she’s willing to share her story with us today. I want to welcome you to the podcast, Erica.   Erica: Thank you. I feel so honored to be here. Thank you. Kate: Let’s start off by getting to know you a little bit, Erica. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.   Erica: Sure. I’ve been married to my husband for just about nine years. We are blessed with two children, a three-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy. We also have an eight-year-old Schnauzer mix who is actually our first baby.   I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from college, also where I met my husband. During college, I started interning at NASA, and I went from college to NASA and became a flight controller for the International Space Station.   After I got married to my husband, I left NASA and joined my husband’s company which is an oil and gas company, so we could travel the world together. We lived in both South Korea for a bit and Japan.   Now, I’m working in the Digital Transformation Group and managing the development of a software platform that has the potential to change the way that our project teams work in the future. Kate: I have so many questions for you, Erica. Erica: Okay. Kate: I’m going to start with: how did you come to join the NASA team? Did you just wake up one day and decide, “I want to work for NASA!”?   How did that happen? I’m so curious. Erica: It really was a lifelong dream because I have always been interested in space. I did high school reports on NASA. When given the opportunity, I would always pick a space topic. When I was in college — it was in my sophomore year — I went to the career fair at school. And I decided, “Why not talk to the NASA booth?”   They called me back for an interview. Then afterwards, I got a call saying, “Would you like to come intern at NASA down in Houston?”   I said, “Yes.” So, that’s how it started. Kate: That’s pretty exciting. Erica: Yes, and just such a fun place to work — just the dream job. Kate: Yes. Another question that I had that came to mind was with your engineering background, were there any obstacles that you had to overcome to really start to study and use homeopathy? Erica: The fact that homeopathy is science-based really resonated with me. Once I learned about homeopathy and realized what it could do, it’s been so wonderful and there is no barrier at all.   The funny thing is that I never heard about homeopathy until the last couple of years when one of my church friends introduced me to it. Since then, I just can’t get enough. Kate: I think that’s important for people to understand because I hear the word “energy” being thrown around a lot. While we know that everything is created with energy, to me, it makes it sound a little more, I don’t know, “New Age-y.”   I like the fact that you said it is science-based. That’s what I see, too, because everything that is created is science-based, right? The world. Erica: Absolutely. Introduction to Homeopathy Kate: You mentioned a friend int

Podcast 104 – Handling Chronic Conditions

IN THIS PODCAST, WE COVER: 01:00 Classical or Practical Homeopathy®? 18:56 What’s a “Simillimum?” 28:46 Case Management 34:47 The Academy of Practical Homeopathy® 37:40 My Mission LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS PODCAST: Coffea 200C (for anxiety) Ruta 6 or Ruta 200 (for strained ligaments) My blog, podcasts, Facebook Live events and courses Gateway to Homeopathy: A Guided Study Group Curriculum Kate: This is the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast Episode Number 104.   Joette: This is Joette Calabrese, and I’d like to welcome you to the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration — you need as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy.   Kate: Hi, this is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m here today with Joette. We have some very interesting things to talk about.   Hi, Joette!   Joette: Hi, Kate. It’s always fun. Classical or Practical Homeopathy®? Kate: Yeah! We’re going to dig deep today. We’re going to be talking about sort of a heavy subject.   So, I have a question for you. When I go online and try to look up remedies for certain conditions, I can find an abundance of information on acute conditions, but it is super-hard to find information on how to treat chronic conditions.   Tell us what your perspective is on that, Joette.   Joette: Well, that was exactly my frustration when I was a young mother dealing with my children. I was happy to find how to treat a fever and otitis media and conjunctivitis and strep throat and an injury. But boy, when it came to food intolerances or allergies or my mother’s chronic arthritis or my mother’s insomnia, et cetera … my father’s heart condition — it drove me crazy (which is why, of course, I decided to start studying classical homeopathy).   That’s where there’s a division. Because what you’ll find online and in homeopathy books (we’re talking about books that are directed to the general public), is they’ll teach only those acute conditions. Because the goal of the classical homeopaths and the classical homeopathy schools is to encourage moms and grandmothers that the only way they can learn how to treat a chronic condition is if they become classical homeopaths.   And that is a very expensive and time-consuming endeavor. In the end, when these moms and grandmothers finish these courses, they are able to understand classical homeopathy, but they still don’t have the practical experience or results. They don’t have practical methods. Kate: So, you’re not saying it’s a bad thing to study classical homeopathy. You’re just saying that even though you’ve gone that route, there’s still something that’s missing.   Joette: Classical homeopathy offers a good foundation if you want to become a practitioner.   As a practitioner, you need to understand the history of homeopathy. You need to be very familiar with Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s aphorisms. Many of them should be memorized. You should know how to navigate a repertory (inside and out, not only manually but also in a program), medicines in the materia medica and know their keynotes. That gives a very good foundation for someone who’s going to hang out a shingle. Except that’s all it gives — is a foundation.   It does not leave the student (once they graduate) with a practical aspect of how to treat the person. That’s what’s missing.   You’re left with a very vague notion of what needs to be done. Because the goal of the classical homeopath is to find THE simillimum — the one medicine — the constitutional remedy that will stimulate that person’s ability to correct everything in that person’s body, and now you’re pretty much done.   I don’t know that very many classicals would actually agree that that is exactly what happens. But that’s the message.   Instead, what I do is I teach Practical Homeopathy®, so that the family has everyday practical ability to be able to take care of someone in their family who has food intolerances or eczema — yes, chronic conditions — or lax ligaments or chronic anxiety or chronic insomnia or arthritis, et cetera … allergies.   These are the kinds of things that … although it’s interesting to know and useful to have those acute conditions, and what to do with them that’s given to the general public, this — what I’ve just described to you — those chronic conditions — are what everyone is suffering from.   To leave that out and to instead insist that th

Kate: Hi, this is Kate. I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, I have a Mom with Moxie with me, and her name is Lyda. She’s going to share with us a lot of information. But something I wanted you to know up front — so you’re ready to take notes — is that she’s going to talk about animals today because she’s very educated and has a lot of experience on using homeopathic medicines with the animals on her farm. So, for those of you who have a farm or just animals, be ready to take some notes. All right. Lyda, welcome to the podcast. Lyda: Thank you. I really appreciate you having me on, and it’s quite an honor. Kate: We’re so glad to have you. I’m excited for you to share with the listeners of this podcast because you have some pretty amazing stories — and one in particular I’m thinking of, but we’ll get to that in a little bit. First, I want you to tell us about yourself. Lyda: We live in Western Colorado just outside of Grand Junction. My husband and I have been married 27 years. We have five kids: four boys and a girl, ranging in age from 11 to 25. My husband has been in the printing business for 30 years, but he’s just this next week transitioning into a real estate job, so that’s exciting. He’s very supportive of me and everything I take on, especially homeopathy. He’s been very helpful in that. We have the farm where we raise Herefords, chickens, Jersey cows, sheep, turkeys, hens, and a really big garden, and we also raise Australian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees puppies. So, we’re very busy. Kate: Oh, my gosh, I don’t know how you do it all. I love those Pyrenees. We talked about this earlier, but we had a Great Pyrenees, and they’re amazing dogs. Lyda: They are. They’re very different than any other dog I’ve ever been around. Kate: You use them as protection for your other animals, right? Lyda: Yes, I do. Kate: Yeah, yeah, they’re amazing. It sounds like you have a very busy life. I’d love to hear about your day. What does your day look like? Lyda: Oh, goodness! I start the day out milking as soon as I can — before it gets hot right now, because it is so hot. We grass feed all of our animals. So, it’s a lot of moving animals around to new pastures. We raise the meat chickens that have to be moved (which my son does that). We put all our cows on new pasture every day; put our sheep on pasture. So, it’s just a lot of taking care of animals. I raise pullets to sell to people — that are young laying hens — and so I take care of those. I stop somewhere in there for a meal. I spend as much time in the afternoon in the garden getting that taken care of, and then it’s pretty much supper time, and we go to bed. Kate: Exhausted, right? Lyda: Exhausted, yeah. Kate: Now, when you move the animals around — the Herefords — do you use horses or four-wheelers or just walking? How do you guys do that? I’m just trying to picture it. Lyda: Yes, just walking. I mean, we have horses. My daughter, shows horses, but we don’t use them. We only have 10 acres. But my oldest son lives right next door to us, so we use his 10 acres. The cows know that in the morning they get to go to a new pasture. They pretty much move themselves. You just open gates and close gates and away they go. Kate: Do you try to make most of your own food from scratch like from your garden and d

Joette and I are here today, and we’re going to get personal.   Joette: Uh-oh.   Kate: Yeah, right? You should be scared, Joette. I’m going to ask you some personal questions.   Actually, this is something I’ve been wondering for a long time. You are so busy, Joette, and you do so many things. If you don’t mind, I want to share with the listeners some of the things that I see you do. Is that okay?   Joette: Sure. Just don’t tell them that one story … No, no, no.   Kate: Okay, alright.   I see you stitching, fixing things, and mending things. I actually don’t know what you’re doing, but you’re doing something with a needle and a thread sometimes during our meetings. I just heard recently — you told me — that you were learning Spanish. You are swimming, now. You love to study words. You’re always talking about something that you’re learning, some person that you’re following on a podcast and something that you’re learning about. It’s mind boggling to me all the things that you do in addition to your more-than-full-time job of being a homeopath.   So, I thought it would be really interesting for your listeners to hear about your day, and how you accomplish all these things. You want to share that with us?   Joette: Okay. I don’t know how interesting this will be, but we’ll give it a try.   Kate: Well, I’m interested! And I figure if I am, other people are as well.   Joette: Well, one of the things, one of the rules I have — and I was having a hard time with it for a while — was getting to bed early so that I could get up early. And my swimming has put that into place for me. I like to get to bed early enough so that I know that I’ll be up before the sun rises, and I can get started.   Kate: Now, Joette before you go on, I want to tell a little secret. Sometimes I email you at midnight my time which is one o’clock your time, and you answer me back.   Joette: I do.   Kate: So … I know you’re not always going to bed early.   Joette: No, I’m not always going to bed early. But you might note Kate that it was before I started swimming. Because since I’ve been swimming, pretty much, I am sleeping soundly. Going to bed around 9:30/10 o’clock, and it’s been really, really good for me.   I mean, I would say perhaps occasionally I might be up. But generally speaking, I try to keep that habit alive and well.   Kate: But how can you do that when you are on live Q&As until late in the evening, sometimes?   Joette: Those are the nights. When I’m on with the Study Groups (for example, your Study Group), and I have a lot of questions to answer, I never leave those study groups without answering every single question and make sure that everyone is satisfied. It sometimes goes to 10:30/11 o’ clock. I’ve even gone as late as 11:15 on some of those groups!   Those are the nights that I don’t sleep so well, in spite of the fact that I’ve been swimming during the day. It does take me time to wind down. And then I get online, and I see what emails I need to respond to, and invariably, there you are.   How to accomplish things   Kate: Tell us how you accomplish all the things that you do. What’s your secret?   Joette: What’s my secret? I established my day in advance. So, I know what I’m going to do the next day partly because I’m scheduled. I mean, my calendar is completely full. I’m scheduled all day and into the evening with appointments; with clients; with meetings with say, you or Tracey (who I collaborate with writing) or with Shannon (to discuss clients) or a meeting with my husband or a meeting with our consultant. I am scheduled all day, pretty much every day except Sundays. Then, of course, there are my clients most of the day. From 1

Kate: Hi, this is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, I have a wonderful friend here whose name is Chris. Chris is a Midwest gal just like myself. Welcome, Chris. Chris: Hello, Kate. Kate: It’s great to have you here. I’m so excited to hear from you today. Chris: It’s good to be here. It really is a pleasure. Kate: Tell us about yourself, Chris. Chris: Well, like you said, I’m a Midwest gal — born and raised right here in Central Illinois — and married to Mike for seven years. Have three kids, 2, 4, 6. They keep me very busy. In my free time, I like to bike, hike, be outdoors, garden. My winter sport is quilting and sewing. I’ve got to do that on those cold months around here. But most of that is to keep me sane while I have my main job of staying at home, raising the kids and being a mom — which is the hardest, craziest job I’ve ever had — but I can’t see myself doing anything else. Kate: As you’re saying this, back in those days when I had young kids, and I feel you. Chris: It’s crazy. Kate: Yes. Chris: You can’t wrap that up into a sentence, really. Kate: No. Chris: It’s wonderful and still insane. Kate: Yes, the best, most challenging … Chris: … job I’ve ever had. Kate: Most fun … Chris: Yes. Kate: Exactly. Chris, in your spare time, I know you are an outdoorsy kind of gal, and you like to bike ride and do a lot of things outdoors with your family. And we’re going to get into this in just a minute, but I find it kind of ironic because you have a lot of issues being outside and doing those things because of some allergies, right? Chris: Yes. I have some seasonal allergies as well as some pet allergies — which I don’t know if we’ll talk about this, but I don’t have any! But I usually steer clear away from animals. Yes, being outside and being around anything in the garden, I’m usually careful about those sensitivities and asthma. I love being active and doing things, but exercise-induced asthma has been a plague in my life for quite a few years. Homeopathy has really helped out with that. Kate: We’re going to get into that in just a minute. But talk to us for just a few minutes about your journey to homeopathy. What did that look like? Journey to Homeopathy Chris: Well, it started when I became a mom. My daughter was six months old. I think I just remember her having some pain or bruises. A friend mentioned Arnica. I had no idea what it was, went to the local natural food store, found it — like the one place in town that had it. I didn’t even know how the heck to even open the bottle. Turn it over and twist the cap, right? So, I’m pretty sure I didn’t even give it to her a lot. I mean, maybe it was more like one or two times I gave it to her. But other than that, it just sat on the shelf for about a year. Then my daughter got her first ear infection. That’s when I knew there had to be something else. It just led me down that path of finding a different alternative to caring for my family as opposed to giving her antibiotics. That really was the gateway to my homeopathy journey. Kate: Now, talk to us for a minute about that struggle that you had when your daugh

And I don’t know how much I want to reveal here, but Perry is my husband. So, I am going to kind of interview him, and he is actually going to kind of interview me as well. We are not going to talk too much about homeopathy in terms of what to use or philosophy or theory or aphorisms, or anything. Instead, today we are going to talk about where we’ve come from, where we’ve gone, where we plan to go with Practical Homeopathy® and JoetteCalabrese.com. So, hi, honey! Perry: Hi, honey! But they have asked me to … so, we’re going to do this. Perry: We are going to give you a little bit of background on Joette and I because maybe that’s interesting. We don’t think it is, but let’s go ahead and try. In the Beginning … Joette: Okay. So, many people may know my story and how I started out with homeopathy, and I am not going to go over that because I have written about it on my blog, and it has been published, etc. But instead, I will start talking about something that we never really talked about that much and that was that I used to teach many study groups in people’s homes and churches and church basements and schools, all over Western New York (which is Buffalo, New York area). Perry: This was when the kids were a little bit older because I would go out at night as well. I owned a construction company. So, we didn’t argue about who was going to go to work. But I would come home from the day, have dinner, and plan to go back out again, and Joette would remind me, no, she had a study group to teach. I was staying home with the kids. In many respects, I enjoyed that, but we needed to get Joette’s business up and going – or at least build her client-base — because that was what we were doing at that time. So, she would go out, sometimes five nights a week! Joette: Yeah, yeah. For years I did that. I would say it was probably two years where Monday night I taught in Black Rock (which is a section in Buffalo). Tuesday night it was Orchard Park (suburb). Wednesday was the West Side of Buffalo. Thursday was Amherst, New York (outside of Buffalo). Friday … I mean it was really like this, and I was also teaching at the same time at Daemen College. I was teaching classical homeopathy. So, it was a very … Perry: To the nurses. Joette: Yeah, to nurses. Well, they were undergrad nursing school. It was a very busy, busy time in our lives, and we were living at that time … Perry: In Colden. Joette: … in Colden, New York, which was 15-acre farm that we had put together. And, we were homeschooling our kids. We had a lot on our plate. Perry: Right. We did. Joette: When I look back at it, I say, “Wow! What great years!” But it was a lot of work. We were very, very busy. We had two goats and 30 chickens, and you and the kids were raising bees. Perry: Ahhh, we were raising bees. Let me tell you about those goats, folks. We would try to pen these goats in. We had a 6-foot high electric fence. And these goats would climb up the side of the hut that I had built for the chickens and the goats, and they would leap over that fence. Joette: And they were Pygmy goats. Perry: Well, they were sold to us as Pygmy goats. Either the boys fed them too much, or we were sold a bill of goods. Anyway, these goats would get out, and Joette would have clients at that time coming to the house during the day. Joette: It was an office. It was actually my office connected to the side of the hou

Joette: Joette Calabrese here, folks. Kate: Hi, I’m Kate, and I would like to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, we’re going to have a different type of a Mom with Moxie podcast. We’re actually going to be talking about “the big picture.” Jordan is a big picture thinker, and I can’t wait for you all to hear what she has to say about the power of being a matriarch. So, Jordan, welcome to the podcast. Jordan: Thanks for having me, Kate. Kate: I am so excited because we’re going to be changing things up a little bit. You are going to be talking to us about the big vision. Like, what is the big picture? Why are we doing this as moms? Why are we using homeopathy, and what does this mean to us, and how does it empower us? So, before we get started, Jordan, tell us about yourself. Jordan: Sure. I’ve got five little ones. I have all the way from eight years old down to nine months old: Terry, Simon Peter, Elijah, Thérèse and Felicity. I homeschool them. I’ve been doing that now for a couple of years. But before I was homeschooling, I was a youth minister for about 10 years. That’s kind of my other side passion is ministry, reaching out to teens. So that’s really heavy on my heart. This May, I’m celebrating my 10-year anniversary, so that’s super-exciting. I’m relatively new to homeopathy. This has really been only something I’ve been doing for now, like, maybe eight months. But I am just so passionate and excited to share what I’ve learned — and hopefully, to encourage those who are learning, too, along the way. Kate: Yes, I can’t wait to hear what you have to say. When we talked a little bit earlier, I was very excited that you wanted not just to talk about those individual success stories or the struggles that you might have with homeopathy, but to talk about how this really can change our family’s lives. How it can empower us! You said that yourself, you’re very new to homeopathy. But at the same time, I feel like you have a lot of wisdom in this. So, I want to hear about what led you to finding out about homeopathy. How did that journey come about? “Nourishing Traditions” Jordan: I’ve always been suspicious of the allopathic medical paradigm for a long time, but I didn’t know what to replace it with. I just kind of still went along with it for the most part, so gave Tylenol, Benadryl, things like that. But then, I really, Kate, can boil it down to certain key events where something shifted in my thinking. And the first key event was when my mom handed me the book “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon — and I would recommend any mom to get that book. Kate: What a great mom you had that she gave you that book! That’s awesome! Jordan: She did! I think she was surprised I read it. Because literally, she took it and gave it to me, and I think within a month, I had read it cover to cover. I was just on my way to Minnesota. I had a long, 12-hour car ride from Michigan. So, I opened it up, and I read it. My husband was driving, so I was sitting in the passenger seat and just reading, reading. And it opened a huge door that I didn’t know was there. I got into raw milk first. As I was reading it seeing that was a big thrust of Sally Fallon’s way of thinking, I was like, “Okay, let’s do

Podcast 98 – How to Take Your Own Case: Prioritize!

In this podcast, we cover: 01:27 Fictional Girl Named Maddy 05:58 Number Rating System 15:58 Food Intolerance 18:58 Determining what is most important 25:06 Sprezzatura Kate: This is the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast Episode Number 98 with Joette Calabrese. Joette: This is Joette Calabrese, and I’d like to welcome you to the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast. Kate: Hi, this is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m here with Joette today. Hi, Joette! Joette: Hi, Kate, always great to talk like this. Kate: Yes, we have so much fun on these podcasts. Today, we are going to be talking about what it’s like when you first start using homeopathy, and you are so excited. Right? You finally found homeopathy, and you’re so excited. You’re trying it for some conditions, and it’s working. And now, you want to treat everything, right? Joette: Now let’s make our bodies perfect and live forever. Fictional Girl Named Maddy Kate: Right. So, what we’re going to do today is we’re going to talk about this fictional girl named Maddy. I’m going to give you an example of a case, Joette. We see this all the time. I’m sure you do. I hear people in the Study Groups who get excited, and then they want to treat everything. They want to heal every single symptom that they have, their family members have, their friends have — which is great, right? Joette: But enthusiasm needs to be tempered sometimes, and we have to pull back and be a little more logical. Kate: We’re going to flesh this out. I’m just giving you an example, Joette. Maddy has osteoarthritis, right? She has pain in her joints. She has food intolerances which gives her bloating and gas. She has alopecia so maybe some thyroid issues. She has white spots on her nails. She’s 20 pounds overweight. She doesn’t sleep well at night, and she has a little patch of eczema on her neck or her back. Joette: How old is Maddy? It’s most likely that Maddy is not in her 20s. It can happen. But most likely the osteoarthritis is usually the tipoff that she’s older. She’s postmenopausal. She’s in her 60s, most likely 20 pounds overweight. All of this is super-common for someone in the late 60s, for example. (This is fictitious, right?) Kate: Exactly. Joette: Maddy is not real, so let’s put her exactly where she would fit in the scope of demographic. I would say Maddy is probably about 65. Kate: You see a lot of Maddys, I would imagine, Joette, because this may be some typical conditions that people in that age range are dealing with, yes? Joette: Yes. You know what you didn’t mention about Maddy? My guess is that she’s got anxiety, too. Kate: Of course, she does. Joette: You bet. You bet. Things that come her way or her family’s way, she worries about her grandchildren. You know, it keeps her up at night sometimes. You did say insomnia, right? Yes, she has insomnia. Kate: Maddy is really excited, Joette. She’s just taken some of your courses. She joined your Study Groups. Joette: Down, Maddy. Down! Kate: She’s listened to all the podcasts, read the blogs, and she wants to tackle the world!! Joette: Yes, yes, great! That’s good. We don’t want to extinguish this excitement! But what we want to do is then put it all together for her so she can understand how she approaches something like this. Kate: And Maddy’s dog has a tick disease. We could go on and on, right? Joette: Yes, well, her husband’s got, you know, sciatica pain, and he’s about 40 pounds overweight. He has chronic constipation. We could go on and on and on because that is the profile. It’s “baby boomer” profile. That’s basically what we’re describing here. The most important thing that we have to do first is to see what is it that’s keeping Maddy down? Is it the alopecia? In other words, if her hair is so thin that she looks like she has almost no hair — she’s starting to wear a wig — then by all means, that’s really important to her!! That’s going to change everything for her, especially for a woman. That is a big deal for a woman. But if we’re talking about alopecia in which, well, her hair’s falling out a little bit too much, and it’s thinner. It’s not the same as it was when she was in her 20s, of course. Whose anything is the same as when we were in our 20s? If it was just a mild case then we can put that on the back burner for now. It’s just not as important. And, it might

Kate: Hi! I’m Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m here with Regina today, and she has lots of good tips to share with you. So, get your pen and your paper out and get ready to take some notes. Regina, welcome to the podcast! Regina: Thank you, Kate. Great to be here. Kate: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where you live, your family? Regina: Well, I’m originally from New England, but I’ve lived in Annapolis, Maryland for the last 19 years. I’ve been with my husband … we’ve been married 40 years now. I have a stepson and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, and my sister and her daughter and husband and stepchildren, and some other family in the area. So, we get to spend a lot of time together. Kate: It’s kind of fun because some of your family actually uses homeopathy as well. You get to share that with them. Tell us a little bit about that. Regina: Yes, that’s been great. I’m very fortunate. All the family members are pretty open to it. My husband became sold on it when we fixed his gout. My daughter-in-law has really taken to it. It’s been great fun because it’s given us a great subject matter to get close … because of always talking back and forth on text: “What are you using for this? And what are you using for that?” So, it’s been great. Kate: You have a homeopathy study buddy built right into your family. Regina: Yes! Kate: Wonderful. Okay, so you have taken every one of Joette’s courses, is that correct? Regina: Gateway to Homeopathy and every one of her courses. And I cannot tell you how much I’ve learned in each and every one of her courses. Every time she says she’s doing a new course I get so excited because I know I’m going to learn so much, and then you can refer back to it over and over and over again. Kate: Actually, you were in one of the study groups that I led quite a while ago. That’s so fun! Regina: That is right, right, exactly, back in the beginning. Kate: Yeah, that was a while ago. You’ve also consulted with Joette. Regina: Yes, I started consulting with Joette back in February 2017, because my headaches had gotten so bad. And it’s so much fun talking with her. I look forward to every session. She has a great way of handling not only adults, but I’ve seen her interact with teenagers and preteens. She just makes every situation so manageable. She doesn’t get thrown by anything, and she’s experienced so many things. I don’t think there’s a condition she hasn’t ever heard of! So, it’s been great working with her. That, combined with the classes, has been a deep-dive education over the last three years in homeopathy. Kate: How did you get to homeopathy? Take us back just a little bit and tell us about your journey. Regina: I’ve had chronic conditions my whole life — eczema, gut issues, allergies, colds, headaches. Like most people, I spent most of the time working with allopathic doctors. Then I realized that by the time I reached my 50s, I was just sick of being sick all the time and decided that I would study what was causing it. And spent the next 10-12 years studying naturopathy and using everything I could learn to help myself get healthier. I did dental work, diet work, supplements, energy work. Everything helped a little bit and somewhat, and I was making some progress — but not enough. And then some things started getting worse. My headaches started getting worse. My food sensitivity started getting worse, and my world was getting smaller. Everything I ate was restricted. Where I could go was restricted. I knew I had to do something different. I had been doing some homeopathy with a

Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration — you need as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: Hi, I’m Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I’m here with Joette today, and we are going to be talking about “keeping it simple.” Joette, you wanted to share with your listeners about the idea of symptoms, and how sometimes, they can actually be side effects from some things that we might be taking. So, why don’t you expand upon that today?   Symptoms   Joette: Sure, let me start with this. That is that symptoms are key in homeopathy — not because we want to treat them, but because we honor them, and we use them. They are our gifts.   I know that’s hard to believe when someone’s suffering. The last thing you’re thinking of is that this headache is a gift. But in a way, it is because it directs us to which homeopathic medicine will help correct it.   Symptoms are just representations of something that’s going on deeper.   Now, let me say parenthetically, we needn’t know what it’s representing. That’s not the job of the homeopath or the person who’s using homeopathy. The job of the homeopath is to use that information.   So, if there’s itching in the middle of the night only, that’s different than itching after taking a shower. That’s a symptom that matters!   If we are treating symptoms with drugs — steroids, for example, for that itching, or magnesium (gross magnesium), or whatever else we might be taking — it can cause trouble.   It might relieve that itching in the middle of the night, but that’s not what necessarily we’re looking for.   Now, that sounds really ridiculous for someone who is new to homeopathy. Kate: Right.   Joette: But the problem is that steroids don’t cure! Homeopathy has the ability to do such. I’m not going to tell you it’s going to cure every case or how far it will go. But steroids don’t cure; they actually suppress. Suppression of symptoms is a naughty word in homeopathy. We don’t want to suppress anything. Those steroids might indeed get rid of that itch at that time. But later on, now the itch, my guess is — and it’s an educated guess because I’ve seen it happen many, many times — now the itching is not in the middle of the night. Now the itching is first thing in the morning and in the middle of the night. Now the itching is not just on the scalp. Now the itching is on the flexors and on the belly and on the nose. So, it gets worse and worse, and we need stronger and stronger steroids to hold it down. It’s like pushing down on a water balloon, and then it bulges up somewhere else. And you press down on that bulge, and it bulges somewhere else. So, symptoms are very, very important in homeopathy. We use them; don’t treat them. Symptoms can be caused by a myriad of substances.   And so, when someone tells me that they have a condition — or they only have symptoms, they don’t even have a name for the condition necessarily — my first question is, “What are you taking?”   Always.   “What are you taking?”   They think that “natural substances” will not cause trouble, but I totally disagree. So, it can be natural substances such as vitamins — although I don’t think they’re all that natural, and we’ll get into that too in a minute — or supplements, food supplements, et cetera.   Drugs will most definitely cause symptoms. They’re called side effects. There is no such thing as a drug without a side effect. If you’re taking a drug, you’re going to get a side effect.   End of discussion.   It may not be what you expect, but you will get a side effect — unless you get on it for a short period of time, and you’re done, and you get off it quickly enough. But if there’s ever a chronic condition or a chronic use of a drug, just count on it. That’s what it will cause.   But I also warn people that homeopathy can cause symptoms, too, if it’s used incorrectly. So, many time

Kate: Hi, I’m Kate. I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, I have a very special Mom with Moxie with me. Her name is Michelle.   Michelle, I want to welcome you to the podcast.   Michelle: I am glad to be here, Kate. Kate: I’m glad to have you. You have so many things to share with the listeners today. I’m super excited to dive right in because we have a page full of things that you’ve used homeopathy for. And I’m sure this isn’t even all of it, Michelle — that you’ve written down here.   Let’s get started. Michelle, tell us a little bit about yourself. Michelle: I am a wife to a farmer and a rancher. We live on a lot of prairies that we farm, and we live close to some rivers where we run cows. I have three grown children, and I am grandma to 11. Even my parents live kind of close. So, all of our family lives together and works together on a lot of occasions. I like to spend a lot of my free time just learning more and more about how to be a good Christ-follower. I like to teach. I like to help. I do have a medical background. I’m an RN. I think that’s all the exciting things I can think about myself right now. Kate: I think that is super-special that you live so close to all of your family. I know you’re close with your children and your grandchildren and your parents. I think that’s pretty amazing that you are surrounded by your family. That’s, I think, what every mom wishes for, right? Michelle: I think you’re right. It really is wonderful. Kate: Yes, living on a farm — a working farm in the prairie — you have a lot of occasion to use homeopathy. But before we hear about your stories, I want to know a little bit of your background, Michelle. Tell us how you came to find out about homeopathy and start using it. Especially, I’m interested because you have a medical background: you’ve worked in the medical field. So, tell me about that transition. Michelle: Yes, it’s because of the grandkids. The mothers of all the grandkids were starting to use — talk a lot about essential oils. So, I thought I want to be the good grandma, and I want to learn! (And so I know what they’re even talking about because they’re medicine — or they are choosing to use it as their medicine.)   So, I started researching that, and I ended up listening to an online summit that was considered an essential oil summit, but Joette spoke on there.   After I heard her, I went back and listened again. And the next day I listened to her again. My brain just started working, and I kept thinking, “Is this some new kind of medicine? Is this the latest hottest deal?”   I just spent time thinking for about three months. I didn’t change my mind super-fast.   But I went to her blog site then, listened to some of her podcasts, read some of her materials, did some other research and in about three months’ time realized this is not new medicine. It’s an old medicine. I realized how it was made and a little bit about what they know.   I just said, “I think I can learn about this,” and I did!   Then all the kids go, “Mom, this is so much better than what essential oil was offering us. It has a lot broader scope.” Kate: That’s interest

This is Kate, and I’m here with Joette. I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast.   This is a bit of an impromptu podcast. Because Joette and I were just doing some work together, and she thought of a subject that she really was passionate about and wanted to share with you listeners.   And so Joette, why don’t you get us started?   Stramonium and Night Terrors   Joette: When you and I were just talking, I was recalling a story about one of my children. It was from many years ago, and how I studied a specific medicine and the medicine was Stramonium, S-T-R-A-M-O-N-I-U-M, Stramonium.   At the time when we needed this medicine for my son, I was a novice in homeopathy. But I knew enough that if I found the right medicine, that it would abort the condition.   Well, this was the condition. We used to borrow movies from the library when my children were growing up. We borrowed the movie, “Swiss Family Robinson.” I’m talking about the version from 1959 — this was an old version. Great story, nice movie, great movie for kids.   But, my son was very young — he was about six maybe, at the time. He was very taken by the scene where the bad pirates were going to harm the family — the Swiss Family Robinson family. He wanted to watch it over and over again. He was obsessed, almost, by watching this one scene.   I know what he was doing. It’s what children do — and all of us, for that matter — is trying to process it. I don’t think it ever occurred to him that someone would try to hurt a family. Of course, he was relating to the family, probably greatly. He wanted to watch it over and over again to make it clear in his mind. It was something that he had never experienced and was trying to understand what was going on. Why would somebody want to hurt this family?   And so, with that, then when he would stop watching the movie … we’d borrowed it from the library for a week. When he finished watching the movie, he would play with his Lego guys. And these Lego guys who were kind of peaceful creatures up until that point became aggressive — very aggressive — and killing the bad guys. I mean, not just killing, but you know, killing in really gory ways that I didn’t even know he understood. Kate: Oh, my goodness.   Joette: His good guys were stabbing the bad guys. These Lego creatures were having wars constantly.   And, then he would go to bed — that first night he went to bed — and he had a terrible nightmare. In fact, it wasn’t a “mare.” It was a terror!   We ran into his room because he was screaming and turned the light on, and he would not wake up. And that’s what a night terror is: They are out of their mind with the images in their brains, and they can’t let it go.   And so, it would take an awful lot for us to calm him down. We’d have to have bright lights on. He needed the bright lights.   In those days, I used homeopathy classically. I didn’t know that there was a protocol for violent thoughts or severe angst from witnessing something that was violent. All I knew was to repertorize, and so I repertorized in my book, and I found Stramonium.   Now, I had many materia medicas at the time, and I certainly opened them up, but it wasn’t until I totally delved into it. I purchased a book titled “Stramonium.” It was just simply on the subject of Stramonium by Paul Herscu, and I read it from cover to cover.   Meanwhile, it was night after night of this with my son suffering, not being able to sleep, all of us not being able to sleep because of these night terrors. When I finally convinced myself that Stramonium was the medicine, I gave him a dose of Stramonium 200C.   Now again, in those days very classically thinking, I was thinking only one dose, maybe two doses over two days, maybe a third dose, but that was it! You don’t give any more.   And so that’s what I did. I gave

Kate: Welcome to the practical homeopathy podcast. I’m Kate. I’m here with a dear friend of mine today, a Mom with Moxie. Interesting story – we actually met in one of Joette’s Gateway to Homeopathy study groups many years ago. We’ve become dear friends since that time. So, those of you who are wondering whether or not you should join a Gateway to Homeopathy group, I highly recommend it because you will meet some really amazing women. Today, I want to welcome my dear friend, Michele, to the podcast. Welcome, Michele! Michele: Hi, Kate. It’s good to be here. Kate: Yes, I’m so excited that we get to do this podcast together. You have some pretty incredible things that you and your family have been through over the years. We actually learned about Joette about the same time many years ago. So, I feel like you are my homeopathy journey buddy. Journey to better health Michele: Definitely been a journey to better health. Kate: Before we get into your stories about using homeopathy, tell us a little bit about yourself. Michele: I am married to a wonderful husband who totally supports my love for homeopathy, and he loves it, too. We have a small convenience store in Chico, California. I have five boys ages 14 to 23. Four are still at home, and I’ve homeschooled them all the way through. Three have graduated. One more will this year, and I have a 9th grader left. Kate: Let’s talk about how you came to know about homeopathy? Michele: Well, I was actually using homeopathy and didn’t even know that I was — through a naturopath that I was working with a little bit. My kids had got the swine flu, and I did. We were hit really hard. We even had the diagnosis of it. I started using Oscillococcinum and Cocculus indicus and Nux vomica. I didn’t even know they were homeopathic, but they worked. The flu only hit us for three days instead of weeks. We were so blessed! Then I met Joette in 2012. She came to Chico for a two-day homeopathic intensive course through our Weston A. Price group. I was like, “Oh, wow, I was already using these remedies!” That was the moment I really fell in love with homeopathy. Kate: Tell the listeners … What was Joette like in person? (Shhh. We won’t tell her we’re talking about her.) Michele: She’s just same as she is on the Facebook Lives — just so much fun. It was a two-day — like all day — two-day intensive. It just was such a pleasure to listen to her, and I left there feeling encouraged and uplifted. She even … I think she brought Perry with her and two of her sons. So, it was so neat to see their family traveling together. Kate: I’m pretty excited because she is going to be speaking at the Joint American Homeopathic Conference in Orlando, Florida. For those of you who are interested in possibly attending that conference, it is sponsored by the National Center for Homeopathy. It’s May 15th through the 17th at SeaWorld. So, that will be a fun time. If you’re interested in coming there, you can go on to homeopathycenter.org and find that information about the conference there. So, Michele, let’s get back to you. After you met Joette, you realized that you had already been using some homeopathic medicines. Then I assume you started studying more about homeopathy, and what steps did you take next? Michele: Well, we got a really neat workbook along with our course. I studied from th

So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration you need — as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. Today, Joette and I are going to be talking about the flu. It’s been going around, it’s that time of the year, and we’re going to talk about: how do you know it’s the flu, what remedies to use, and some other things.   So, Joette, why don’t you get us started?   Remedies for flu   Joette: Well, one of the things that I want to mention is that when someone has a bad cold, they often think it’s the flu. It may not be the flu, and sometimes it’s difficult to decipher. Also, with allergies, sometimes folks get allergies, and they can’t tell whether or not it’s a cold, or it is allergies, et cetera.   One of the distinguishing factors is when someone has allergies, generally, they don’t get a fever; generally, they don’t have achy joints and bones. That’s more related to colds and flus. We can distinguish that. We can put that aside.   We can also say that if no one else around you is sick with the similar symptoms, that it is more likely your allergies rather than what’s going around in your community, in your home, in your church, et cetera.   Now, to distinguish between the cold and flu — that can be rather difficult. The flu is, for lack of a better way of describing it, a gobsmacking cold. I mean, you’re really sick with the flu, generally.   A cold is annoying, it’s uncomfortable, but you can generally push yourself through it, and get to your daily tasks. But influenza, generally speaking, really brings you down and assigns you to your bed — or at least, the sofa — for several days. So that helps a little bit.   Kate: One of the things that can help you determine whether or not it’s the flu or something else — or walk you through what to use for the flu versus allergies or coughs or colds — is the free flu chart. That will actually pop up on Joette’s website when you go to joettecalabrese.com. It will pop up and ask you if you want to download that free flowchart. You can just click on that and you’ll have access to that. [As of this recording in February 2020. Click on this link, if the flu chart does not pop up on the main page.] That will walk you through what remedies to use in each of those situations whether it’s flu or a cold.   That’s one good resource. I know we have some other resources that we’re going to talk about in a little bit.   Okay, so let’s get started. Let’s flesh out what to do if you truly do have the flu then, Joette.   Joette: Okay, so there are a couple of different ways — actually, there are many different ways — to approach flu (or cold for that matter). The reason there are so many choices is because homeopathy is vast, and it’s been around for over 230 years. The homeopaths in France most likely do it a little differently … homeopathic medical doctors. In fact, in France, that’s usually who prescribes these medicines are the pharmacists and the medical doctors. And in Spain, they might be doing it a little differently. In India, it’s different than that. In the United States, it’s different.   Then we also must adjust accordingly — according to the genus epidemicus. It can make a big difference. The “genus epidemicus” is a term to describe the kind of medicine that we would use — homeopathic medicine that would be useful for a very, very lar

I’m excited for you all to get to meet our guest today. Her name is Janie and she has been using homeopathy for a very long time. So, I’m really looking forward to learning from her today. Welcome to the podcast, Janie.   Janie: Thank you very much, Kate.   Kate: I would love to start off by learning a little bit about yourself.   Janie: I’m married, and I live in England. I have three grown-up children who don’t live at home anymore and two lovely little grandchildren.   Homeopathy for all kinds of illnesses in general   Kate: Awwww! So, you have been using homeopathy for a long period of time. Tell us how you got started learning about homeopathy, and then the history from there in using homeopathy.   Janie: Okay. I think I’ve probably been using homeopathy almost as long as Joette. I started when I was pregnant with my first baby. I got itchiness on my belly one day, and it spread to all of my body really rapidly. I tried everything natural that I could think of — or knew of or could hear about — that was possible to help. The only things that worked were about three or four cold showers a night, and then slathering myself with almond oil, and wearing a cotton nightie that was up to my neck down to my wrists and down to my feet so I wouldn’t touch the bed clothes when I got back into bed.   Kate: That sounds miserable.   Janie: It was really awful. I was at a health food store one day, and the man there said, “Why don’t you look at some of our books. There are some books on homeopathy. I think that might be able to help you, and it’s safe to take when you’re pregnant.”   I looked through and found an anti-itching remedy in one of them, and I bought the book. I took that remedy every two or three hours during the course of the rest of the pregnancy which was about another six weeks or so. It really helped. It was the only way I could survive it.   It happened again in my next pregnancy, but for longer. And I was so pleased because I knew what to do; I knew what I could actually help myself with (in terms of coping). That was 23 weeks that I had the itching in that pregnancy.   I hadn’t figured out which remedy might help to uproot it, obviously. So, I learned a bit about homeopathy in between those two babies because I found a local homeopath who was teaching a class on first aid with homeopathy. I had about eight or 12 weeks of night school, and that was really, really useful. That, along with the book I had bought, helped me to look after my family when they were little and do all sorts of things to sort them out with bumps and goose eggs and broken bones and a bee sting that was in the hand of one of my friends’ babies (the arm swelled up and went all the way up the arm) and a fairly severe swelling reaction to a vaccination.   There were all sorts of things that I was able to treat when I was a mom with first aid. But I didn’t know how much I didn’t know … until I’ve learned how much I didn’t know since I came across Joette’s courses and her

Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration you need — as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: In today’s podcast, we’re going to continue on with the theme “2020 Twenty.” That is the theme that we’re going to run through this coming year. You’ll see lots of things titled “2020 Twenty,” and we’re going to be giving you twenty tips today to take into 2020. Joette, let’s get started. Joette: Love it. It’s 2-0-2-0 for the year, and then “twenty” spelled out. It’s the “Twenty of the 2020.” Kate: Yes. So, let’s get started with your twenty tips for 2020, Joette. Start us off. 1. Be prepared: Own your medicines Joette: Okay. Well, you and I worked on this a little bit. The first one we came up with was, “Be prepared.” I mean, that just goes without saying, I suppose. But you know what? Sometimes, we need to hear these things time and again. That means, own your medicines. If you think you know or you know what medicine to use, you have to own it! Because there’s nothing worse than saying, “Okay, my child needs Hepar sulph because of this ear infection.” It’s Saturday evening around seven o’clock when no stores are open, or you live in an area where they don’t carry them anywhere. There’s no Whole Foods or Wegmans or anything like that — or Walmart, because sometimes Walmart carries them. And you have to wait until Monday morning to order it! And you don’t get it until Tuesday or Wednesday from Amazon. Well, that makes no sense. You need to own homeopathy kits. I don’t mean one kit. I’m using the plural — kits — because one kit is not enough. You want a 200 Potency kit, you want a 30th Potency kit, and you want a cell salt kit, just to get started. There are others as well. But I can’t urge folks enough to invest in that. Then you’ll be ordering a lot more than just those. Those are just your basics. Kate: I always tell people, have a backup kit, and then have a backup-backup kit, and so on and so forth. When I share with my study groups the kits that I have and the backup-backup-backup kits, and how I’ve actually used the medicines out of those backup-backup-backup kits, I think they’re surprised. But you really need to own more than one kit. Start with one if that’s all you have money for right now. Just start with one. Joette: One step at a time. That’s right. But what you should be spending your money on, that should have been one of our tips. This is what you should be spending your money on. Not nail polish. Not café au lait from Starbucks. This is where you spend your money — because this is an investment. Kate: Okay, Number Two. 2. Know how to order Joette: Well, what I want to tell folks is how to order. I suggest that folks order a couple of different ways, especially if you’re looking not just for the kit, but for single remedies. Order via Amazon for next-day delivery, and literally, you’ll get it the next day. But if you want to get a discount, I urge you to go to Boiron (B-O-I-R-O-N), and order there because … they won’t have all of the medicines you’re looking for, but they’ll have a good number of

Podcast 89 – ACTION REQUIRED! Due in 5 minutes!

IN THIS PODCAST, WE COVER:   01:17 Americans for Homeopathy Choice 02:49 Meetings with the FDA 09:54 Draft Guidance 32:08 Donations to Americans for Homeopathy Choice   LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS PODCAST: Americans for Homeopathy Choice (homeopathychoice.org) Hyland’s, Boiron, Hahnemann, Washington, OHM Kate: This is the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast Episode Number 89 with Joette Calabrese. Joette: Hi, folks. Today, we’re doing something a little different than we have done in the past. I’m going to be interviewing Paola Brown. She’s going to tell us all about her organization. You may already know about it. If you don’t, I want you to know about it.   We are very involved with Paola’s organization on many different levels. I want you to be involved right along with me. You don’t have to do a lot of work. You just have to be even just one toe into the water in getting involved with this wonderful organization.   Paola, tell us about your organization. Paola Brown, here you go, Sweetie.   Paola: Thank you. Americans for Homeopathy Choice.   I just thought I’d start right from the get-go and tell them what they can do. They can go to homeopathychoice.org. Right now, we are seeking 100,000 comments to go into the FDA docket. I checked today, it’s January 5th, and there was about 25,000 comments in there. So, we’re needing this to really pick up. The deadline is January 23rd. So, if you go to homeopathychoice.org, right on the homepage…   Joette: Homeopathychoice.org. We’ll have this listed down below for you folks to click into.   Paola: Yes. We have software that if you’re in the US, that makes it super easy for you. Just click, click, click, and it goes straight to the FDA.   If you’re international people, you can also comment. We have a copy-and-paste that makes it super easy.   Right from the get-go, pause this podcast, run over there, and get that done. But we can talk about the background of the issues, too, of course. Joette: I always tell folks, I’ve written many times to the FDA and other government bodies in my adult life, and I find that if it’s short, and it’s concise, and it’s not just an opinion, but perhaps a short story (how Belladonna helped your child with pain and ear infection or how Chamomilla has helped your teenage daughter, and you need to have this medicine available, and you need all your homeopathic medicines available), how your doctor uses it, or how your practitioner uses it, and give examples — but no anger! No sarcasm. Don’t do that. You will just turn them off.   You want them to actually read these and say, “Wow, this is interesting. Look at this person’s arthritis improve by using Rhus tox and Symphytum,” or something like that. We want them to know that we are real people out there. We’re not oddballs. We simply decided to use homeopathy often instead of drugs — but sometimes alongside drugs as well.   We’re not anti-medicine. We are pro-medicine. But we’re also very much pro-homeopathy. It’s very important that they understand that there’s a large body of citizens in the U.S. and elsewhere who are very interested in keeping homeopathy alive. Because indeed, Paola, it is under threat, isn’t it?   Paola: It is. It really is under threat. In the United States, our government works better when we can speak up and communicate and help our officials do the right thing. If we don’t get involved, I think that’s how overreach happens. That’s how things slip away from us. It’s such an important role as a citizen or as a resident of this country. You don’t have to be a citizen, obviously, because the international people can comment, but as a resident of this country to speak up and to help them understand your perspective, because they don’t know it.   I remember at our very first FDA meeting, we brought our homeopathy kits, me and the moms.   Joette: FDA meeting, meaning you went to DC. Now, you live in Budapest.   Paola: Right. Now, I live in Budapest.   Joette: You flew from Budapest to DC to meet with the FDA. That’s the kind of commitment Paola and her group have in trying to keep homeopathy safe because … let me just say parenthetically that, what happens in the United States happens then throughout the world. We are leaders in many, many ways, even in, believe it or not, in homeopathy. That has switched recently. It used to be Europe was number one. Now, the US has become number one in users of homeopathy.   Okay, so you went to the FDA, and you brought a kit.   Paola: Yes. We passed it across the table. That was our very first meeting, and the person who was really heavily involved in writing the draft guidance was in that meeting. I don’t think that person had ever seen a h

Kate: Welcome back to the podcast, everyone. Thanks for joining us. We’re going to spend a little time reflecting today. Joette, you’ve been using homeopathy and seeing clients for quite some time. I believe it’s been over 30 years.   Joette: Well, I’ve been using homeopathy, I started studying it about 32, actually 33 years ago. But I didn’t go into full-time real practice where I actually hung out a shingle and met with clients full-time until about 25 years ago. Kate: Well, that’s still a very long time.   Joette: It is. It is.   The best results reserved for the purest people?   Kate: Yes, and you must have seen so much in that period of time. I imagine that you have a lot of observations that you’ve made over the years.   Joette: I have seen a lot. Many of the ideas that have come to me have changed through the years.   For example … we might as well just get into it. For example, I always thought — I expected — that those who would have the best results would be the purest people, meaning babies. I always assumed that babies would get well much faster from a chronic condition — I’m not talking about acute so much, but a chronic condition — much more readily than an adult would. An adult who had many years of medications would not respond as well as a child.   I’ve proven that wrong time and time again.   It doesn’t mean that it’s more one way or the other. But just when you think you’re going to expect to see something that’s going to take six months, you see a change in three weeks, even for a chronic condition! It doesn’t mean it’s necessarily completely healed, but we often see a shift that’s big enough that the person can say, “Oh, my gosh! This is really making a change in my life, and so I want to keep going with this.”   Or with a young person, a child, a baby, that we see eczema, and sometimes it can take me many, many months to witness a dramatic change.   So, when people say to me, “Well, I know my case is more difficult because I’ve taken many drugs; I’ve taken lots of antibiotics; I’ve been on the birth control pill for 10 years; I’ve used steroids — that’s going to really impede my movement forward.”   I always say, “No, not necessarily. It wasn’t necessarily the best way to live our lives by taking all of those meds, but it doesn’t mean that you’re not going to move forward quickly.”   It sometimes is quite surprising how it’s not what we expect. Kate: Yes. That’s very interesting. I would not have thought that. Someone who has had a history of many, many chronic conditions, and you would expect thinking logically that this is going to be tough, sometimes you see that change right away and vice versa. That’s very interesting.   Joette: It’s the same with cancer, too. I don’t take cases of cancer, but I worked in the Banerji clinic (Homeopathic Research Foundation in Kolkata). I worked at the clinic for a period of time every year over a period of eight years. I worked with Dr. Prasanta Banerji who took only cancer and kidney cases — when I was there, at least, those many years.   We would see a case where it was first stage cancer, and it would take an awfully long time for the homeopathics to act or perhaps not even at all. We may not crack that case. On the other hand, we’ve seen fourth stage cancer turn around! So, even the stages don’t matter of a particular illness.   I’ve seen in my own work on a day to day basis. Rheumatoid arthritis that seems downright unbudgeable turn around in eight months — not to the point where the person has absolutely no arthritis or no pain, but enough has been removed so that even the markers show improvement! The fatigue is gone. The pain is not as extreme. The pain doesn’t last as long. It’s not as a

Kate: Today, I am so excited to be able to welcome a dear friend of mine and someone that I am privileged to be able to work with. She’s a co-worker of mine with Joette’s team. I’m super excited for you all to get to meet Tracey.   Tracey, welcome to the podcast.   Tracey: Wow, Kate, thank you. That was such a sweet introduction. I’m excited to be here with you on your podcast. Kate: I’m excited to have you. Normally, we are on the backside of the podcast doing the work for them. But now, you’re actually being interviewed. It’s super-fun.   Tracey: It feels like a role reversal.   Kate: Normally, I get to interview Moms with Moxie or Dads with Audacity. We even have Teens with Tenacity. But you have your own category for yourself. Why don’t you share that with us?   Tracey: Well — full disclosure — I’m not a Mom with Moxie because I’m not a mom. So, I thought, “Oh, I have been married for 36 years, so what if I’m a ‘Spouse with Spunk’?” Kate: That’s awesome. You know what? That fits you because you are spunky, too.   Tracey: Awwwww. Thank you. I appreciate that. Well, Joette always says, “It takes guts, spunk, and moxie,” so I figured I’ll fill in that middle category.   Kate: Right, and you do that well.   Tracey: Thanks.   Kate: All right, let’s get to know you a little bit, Tracey. Who is Tracey?   Tracey: Oh, wow! The Cliff Notes are that I have been married 36 years. My husband and I met in college in California. We lived there for most of our lives and just fairly recently moved back to Florida (where I had been born) to be closer to my mom. She’s 96 years old. So, that’s a pretty big number, and we thought it was a good time to be here with her.   Kate: Your mom is actually 96 years “young” because she is also spunky.   Tracey: She is. I inherit it from her, definitely. Yes, she’s amazing. Kate: In fact, doesn’t she still go to Pilates?   Tracey: She does. She does Pilates twice a week. She has a private session. She has really inspired a lot of other people that want to get their parents involved in it. She’s in good shape. Kate: That’s incredible. Wow! I’m just in awe of her.   Tracey: Thank you. Kate: Tracey, have you heard of homeopathy before you started working with Joette?   Tracey: Well, I had heard of it, but I didn’t know exactly what it was — which I don’t think is that unusual for newbies. I will admit that I am a newbie. I’ve only really been involved with learning about homeopathy for a couple of years, and I’m so inspired by the other Moms with Moxie who are so well-learned and so successful in their use. So, they inspire me.   But my first exposure to homeopathy was seeing the blue tubes in the health food store. I would walk by and think they look so fascinating and so professional. I thought, “Oh, I wish I knew what all of these words meant.” And I didn’t know really how to learn about them. But now I do, so I’m really enjoying my exposure to homeopathy. Kate: When you started learning about them, was that w

Women and men worldwide are taking back control of their families’ health and learning how to heal their bodies naturally, safely and effectively. So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration you need — as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy.   Kate: On today’s podcast, we’re going to be talking about pain which, as many of you know, is a big crisis that we are facing right now. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, over 2 million people had an opioid-use disorder in 2018, and on average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. Today, Joette, we want to talk about pain, and how we can address it from a natural perspective.   Joette: There was a time when I dedicated my life to urging anybody whose lapels I could seize and ears I could bash. But now, I approach my subject of homeopathy with a little more grace. I guess I’ve aged.   But I guess there’s also another reason. It’s that I don’t need to scream it any longer. People are clamoring for this information. They’re looking for the alternatives. The jig is up!   These painkillers … am I going to say they should be illegal? Of course not.   There is a place for these kinds of painkillers, I believe. In late stage illness where there is no choice and when homeopathy fails us, then we may, indeed, have to go to something that’s chemically derived. But why even consider it if we can avoid using something that could be so detrimental in the long run to our lives and to our families’ lives?   That’s why we have decided to put together a course on pain. You’ve got the title there, right, Kate?   Kate: Yes.   Joette: Because I don’t have the title memorized yet because this is all new to us. We’re still organizing it and putting it all together.   A course on pain   Kate: It’s “Make It Stop: Escape From the Prison of Chronic and Acute Pain Using Practical Homeopathy®. Learn Effective Methods to Uproot Pain, Often for Good.”   Wow, Joette, that’s a tongue twister.   Joette: That’s why I couldn’t remember the title, but I wanted to get it all in there!! I want to make it really clear what I’m going to be teaching. We want to have this knowledge, this information, these techniques at our fingertips like a Swiss Army knife of knowledge. We want to be constantly prepared because do you know when the next time you or someone in your family will have pain?   Kate: It’s a total surprise. You never know when that’s going to happen.   Joette: It is the true definition of an acute. It comes on suddenly! You don’t know when it’s going to happen. You want to know how to parse through whether it’s an injury, so it’s extrinsic or intrinsic, it’s something internal, whether it’s from the gut from food that has been eaten that was bad, whether it’s a chronic condition that’s related to hormones, (for women, for example, with menstrual pain or headaches that are specific to the hormone shifts), whether it’s an injury, an automobile accident, a ski accident. We need to be prepared.   Now, I will say I am prepared. I know my medicines. I know them inside and out, and I own them.   Kate: That is key! That is key, Joette.   Joette: Absolutely, because if you know, “Oh, my gosh! This is absolutely a call for Caulophyllum,” and you don’t own it, now what? Wh

Kate: Welcome, everyone, to another Mom with Moxie podcast. Today, I’m excited for you all to get to know Jennifer. She’s with me here today. Welcome, Jennifer. Jennifer: Hi, Kate. Thank you so much for having me. I’m really excited to be here. Kate: Good, me, too. I’m really excited to get to know you a little bit more and to hear your story. Let’s get started by hearing from you about your background, and maybe how you came into the natural healing modality. History with homeopathy Jennifer: Well, I live in Central Texas. I’m on a life-learning journey with my son who’s 12, and daughter, nine, and my husband. We live on Unruly Farm, which is a small farm. We have a dog, cats and chickens. My background is in the social sciences, and I love research. So, it’s kind of translated into me into researching healthy and holistic living — which is my segue into learning and using homeopathy. Kate: You must have been passionate then about natural healing for a long time? Is that true? Jennifer: The last 20 years, yes. Kate: Oh, wow. Jennifer: Yes. About 20 years ago, I was exposed to a chemical that I had a severe reaction to. It started me on a journey with reclaiming my health and understanding chemical sensitivities. It just led itself into holistic living. During that time, I discovered a lot of different things that people were using — diet and herbs. I really had not even heard of homeopathy. Now, when I look back, I think, “How could I not have heard of homeopathy in my whole life?” It’s stupefying to me! I got a sunburn. I was using aloe vera gel and all of the herbal things, and it just wasn’t doing the trick. I went to a little health food store that I frequented, and I asked the person, “What would you recommend for sunburn?” She said, “Try this,” and she gave me some burn cream. I put it on and within 15 minutes, I had about a 60% reduction in pain. I thought, “What is this stuff?” I didn’t even read the label. I just purchased it. So, I looked, and it said, “Homeopathic Preparation of Cantharis.” Kate: So, that was the first time that you’ve ever heard of homeopathy. Jennifer: That’s correct. It was the first time. It was about 20 years ago. So, I became really interested in what worked so well for the sunburn. And I went back to the health food store, and I purchased my first book. You know, it’s hard now to think back about my life before homeopathy. It really is. I mean, you know how they say when you’re learning a second language, you start dreaming in that language, and you know you’re really getting it? So, I had a dream the other night, and in the dream, I was telling somebody about a homeopathic remedy. So, I think it’s become a second language for me almost. Kate: Wow! Fantastic. Jennifer: It is translating for my children, too. They both have their own little homeopathic kits that they carry in their backpacks. They both asked for them because I have a kit in my purse that I like that I finally developed with a jewelry organizer. So, my daughter said, “Oh, I want one of those!” So, we got one. Then my son, he said he wanted something — but he wanted something a little tougher. So, he has a nice little plastic case

Kate: Hi, I’m Kate. I’m here with Joette today for another episode of the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. Today, Joette is feeling a little spunky, and we are going to have a conversation about self-education. So, Joette, let’s talk about education. I know you’re very passionate about it, and you have a lot to say. Let’s jump right in.   Importance of Self-education   Joette: Yes, I’m very opinionated, especially lately, regarding universities. My husband and I actually discouraged our sons from going to the universities because we didn’t want to lose them. I think that’s what happens in these universities. Certainly, there is a reason to go to college if you want to get a further degree such as medical doctor, engineer, astrophysicist. Okay, I get it. Now, that makes sense! You need to go to college, and then you need to do some post-grad degrees.   But to get a degree in music, really? I’ll tell you about music.   My father, who never went to college, was a very successful man. He was a finished musician. He played in symphonies. He played flute, classical flute. He also played jazz in big bands. He was in a lot of the big bands in Buffalo when big bands were hot back in the 30s and 40s and 50s. He played trumpet. He did not go to college for that. I’m not telling you that there aren’t good teachers in colleges for trumpet or flute, but he sought it out.   He worked in the dry cleaners establishment, delivered dry cleaning, and had all kinds of little jobs, so that he could make enough money when he was a young man, so as to take lessons from the teachers that he sought out regionally — all around Buffalo, New York.   But he was also a businessman. He had small businesses. He bought and sold real estate. He had a small construction business when he was a very young man, and Buffalo was a very hot town at the time. Actually, Buffalo has come around quite a bit, but it went through a difficult time in the last 40, 50 years. But at this time, it was a very exciting city.   He went to New York City and bought hundreds — maybe even more than that —of ties (men’s neckties) and brought them back to Buffalo. He got a big, long dowel, strew it across a tiny little room — which was really not even a store, it was more like a closet with a door to the street — and sold neckties. He was enterprising. He did that to make a living. Then he had a delicatessen. He had a lot of businesses.   But my point is that in spite of him being able to take care of a family, he still educated himself. I’ve often told the story of how when I was about 12 or 13, he switched from a complete focus on trumpet playing — and he was a very good trumpet player — to learning how to play the flute as well. He played constantly. He practiced constantly.   I know I’ve told this story. When he picked me up from school in high school, he would have the flute by his side, and I would be in the passenger seat. At every light that turned red, he’d pick up his flute, and he would play a riff, or he would play a scale. Then he’d play it in the minor, and then he’d do the arpeggio. He hoped for

Kate: Hi. This is Kate. I am here with a wonderful Mom with Moxie who I am really enjoying getting to know. Her name is Emily. Emily, I want to welcome you to the podcast. Thank you for being here.   Emily: Oh, thank you for having me. I’m very excited.   Kate: Emily, tell us a little bit about yourself.   Emily: Well, my husband and I have been married for 25 years. We have nine children ages 23 to almost 2. I homeschool them all. I’ve graduated two, and I have a senior this year.   Kate: Wow! You are a busy mom. I just want to pick your brain how you’ve done this.   Emily: Not well. There you go.   Kate: I’m sure you’ve done a great job.   Emily: My kids are amazing. But I am pretty sure that it had very little to do with me. They’re just great kids. Kate: Oh, no. You seem like a great mom already since I’ve known you only 15 minutes.   Emily: There you go. That’s the limit! After that, it’s downhill!   Kate: Downhill? No. You were telling us about yourself. You homeschool?   Emily: Yes. We’ve homeschooled since the beginning, and I’ve graduated two. I always say that that gives me street cred — that I’ve got them all the way from beginning to end. Then my 17-year old is a senior this year. So, I have a senior, a freshman, a fifth grader, a second grader, a first grader, and then I have a first grader (but she has Down syndrome, so she has special needs), and then the baby.   Kate: I feel like you should be given the title, “Supermom.”   Emily: That’s not true.   Kate: Emily, I loved what you wrote when we were going to record this podcast. You wrote down that you’re truly, madly in love with this medicine. It sounds like you are really excited about homeopathy. You have been using it for a while. Tell us about that.   Emily: Well, I’ve been using it consistently for 15 years. But my first experience was Hyland’s Teething Tablets when my oldest was a baby. I was a very young mom. I was at the mercy of the doctors we could afford, and they used a lot of fear tactics to manipulate me into doing what they felt was best for my kid — not what I felt was best. But I knew I shouldn’t be giving her Tylenol every time her mouth hurt, every time she had a shot. It just seemed like a lot. So, I went into the health food store and asked. They gave me teething tablets, and they worked like a dream. Right? Because they’re good things.   Kate: Yes, they are.   Emily: I still actually have a bottle of the old teething tablets, and I hoard them.   Kate: Yeah. Right.   Emily: Then fast forward with my fourth baby, I had really bad afterbirth pains. My midwife recommended Arnica. We actually stopped at Walgreens because they carried Arnica back then. I don’t remember. But I used that instead of Tylenol, and it worked so much better.   So, I was hooked, and I loved the idea. I was fascinated with the idea that I’d been able to treat my family, myself. Another homeschool mom offered a class on the flu. It was just basically you bought the book, and she just flips through it and mentions some of it.   I bought the book, and I inhaled it. I read it cover to cover three times. That’s all the classes I had. So, I just read materia medicas. I read Kent’s lectures. I did National Center for Homeopathy First Aid class, and I taught one of those. (hose poor moms. I just was just kind of like a fire hydrant at them.)   I loved the results we were having. Every single time, I give it to my kids or anybody and it works, I’m always just

Kate: Hi! This is Kate. I’d like to welcome you to another Mom with Moxie podcast. I get to meet some pretty fabulous women on these podcasts, and today is no exception. I have a super Mom with Moxie who has used homeopathy in many different ways, even on plants! So, I’m pretty excited to get to learn from her and for you all to meet her. So, Janet, welcome to the podcast.   Janet: Thank you. Good to be here.   Kate: Janet, let’s get to know you a little bit. Can you tell us about yourself?   Janet: Sure. I live in Virginia just outside of Washington DC. I’ve been married for 33 years, have two adult sons who both found wonderful women who I love.   Kate: Oh! That’s a blessing.   Janet: It is a huge blessing. I have a four-month-old grandson, two dogs, and two granddogs who visit often. Every one of them mentioned above has used homeopathy. Each household has kits so they can call me if they have issues.   Kate: Oh, that’s great! They use the homeopathy and like to learn about it.   Janet: Absolutely. Well, they have me, so they’re not so much on learning too much about it. But they know the Nux vomica remedy for hangovers — all the important ones.   Kate: That’s funny.   Janet: Yeah. My daughter-in-law, actually, she asked me to be in the delivery room when she delivered my first grandson.   Kate: Oh, that’s so special.   Janet: It was very special. So, we made good use of the pregnancy and childbirth section of Joette’s Survivalist Guide. She actually was the first one to use Nux vomica for something other than hangovers when she had nausea during pregnancy.   Kate: Okay, so that helped her during her pregnancy?   Janet: It absolutely did. My son actually called me a couple of times during her pregnancy when she was in Texas, and I think had a cold or something. He said, “Mom, is there something that Shelby can use for her cold symptoms?” (since she couldn’t take over-the-counter meds like Advil or Tylenol because she was pregnant). So, I sent a picture of Boiron’s ColdCalm. She was in Texas at the time. She could just go to that pharmacy and find that in a store. And it worked!   Kate: Yay! That’s great. I guess I haven’t thought about that much because I’m not having babies at this time. But that is one advantage of homeopathy is it’s safe for the most part. There are a few remedies that you want to be careful of using when you’re pregnant. But it’s a much better alternative than using allopathic medications when you’re pregnant. So, it’s a great option to have.   Janet: Yes, I agree.   Kate: Tell us a little bit about how you came to know about homeopathy or study homeopathy. Give us your pathway into homeopathy.   Arnica for bruising   Janet: Well, I’m athletic, and I sometimes bruise or fall. So, my first introduction to homeopathy was Arnica, and at the time, I didn’t even realize that Arnica was homeopathy. I think a dentist had said, “Oh, here, your teeth are … use Arnica.” I searched for Arnica, bought it, and it helped.   Then my husband and I were adjusting a shower door, and there was a really heavy hinge, and it fell. I reached my hand out to catch it. I’m like, “Oh, this is going to really hurt and bruise.” Even my bones hurt.   So, I Googled, and I think Joette’s site might have come up, and it said to take Arnica. So, I took Arnica. I had Boiron’s little box of it. I took it, I think, once an hour for the first three hours, and it never bruised — and I bruise easily.

IN THIS PODCAST, WE COVER:   01:16 Infections 08:48 When the remedy is acting; use of observational skills 14:59 Uprooting the condition 18:08 UTI and honeymoon cystitis 20:53 Feminopathy relaunch Kate: This is the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast Episode Number 81 with Joette Calabrese.   Joette: This is Joette Calabrese, and I’d like to welcome you to the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast. Kate: Hi. I’m Kate, and I’m here with Joette again today for another podcast. Today, we’re talking about female issues. So, all you ladies, listen up. This is going to be an important podcast for you. We’re going to talk about a common condition that a lot of women experience. Get your pens and papers ready to take some notes.   All right, Joette, let’s get down to business and talk about these feminine issues. What do you want to discuss today?   Infections   Joette: Well, one of the most common female conditions is infections: bladder, kidney, urethra, ureter, et cetera. I do want to cover that. Particularly for those who have chronic UTIs, I’m speaking to you because everyone believes that they have to take antibiotics. In my experience — not my personal experience, although I’ve certainly had a few UTIs many years ago — but in my experience in listening to my students and clients and taking cases for the last 25-30 years, I have noted that the history — because I take the history and I take the history of a person’s health quite seriously — that the history is often, “Got a UTI, used an antibiotic. Got another UTI, used an antibiotic; another UTI, antibiotic; UTI, antibiotic; UTI, antibiotic.” It gets faster and faster and tighter and tighter.   Now, they’re using that more and more frequently until after many rounds of antibiotics, we often see women left with interstitial cystitis that feels like a urinary tract infection, but they don’t find the microorganisms in the urine.   So, it’s declared, “Nope, you don’t have an infection!”   “But it feels like it. I have the urgency. I have the frequency. I have the pain, pain afterwards. Sometimes the pain radiates down the legs. I have aching in my kidneys. What is going on? You don’t find anything?”   That is often interstitial cystitis. Kate: What is “interstitial cystitis?” That’s a tongue twister.   Joette: Yes, it is. Well, interstitial cystitis is what they often call bladder pain syndrome. It is a feeling as though you have a bladder infection and those other areas: lower urinary tract, upper urinary tract, in the back, et cetera. Often if it lasts more than about six weeks, that is frequently what is then pronounced as, “Well, it’s a syndrome instead of an acute infection.”   Not nice! Because what it is — a syndrome, especially in this particular case — means what was originally an acute condition is now a chronic condition.   What’s the difference? An acute comes and goes, and it’s over with. If treated properly, it comes and goes and is often over with for many months or years or perhaps even forever. If treated incorrectly, in a sloppy manner such as just throwing drugs at it that only kill microorganisms, then we often end up with a chronic condition — which means that the person, the woman is suffering (it’s usually a woman) … suffers from this chronic pain and discomfort and urgency and frequency. But more often, it’s really awful pain.   One person described it to me once as, “It felt like someone set my uterus on fire, and then stomped on it with combat boots.” The pain was horrible! So, it felt like she had been kicked. But before she was kicked in the bladder, there was tremendous burning pain.   And so, their entire lives — and I’ve worked with many, many women with this condition — their entire lives are focused around one organ, the bladder (and those that are relative to the bladder, so, the kidneys, the ureter, the urethra, et cetera), and it ruins their lives.   Now, they can’t go anywhere. They can’t count on anything. They have to wear pads. The pain is all encompassing. Being tethered to the bathroom is chronic. It’s not nice.   I believe that the problem has to do with the sloppy, poorly way the urinary tract infection was dealt with at the onset. If we use a homeopathic medicine that is correct, that suits this condition and this person, we will find that there is no need to go to a bazooka to kill a mosquito. Kate: A bazooka. What an image.   Right! That happens so often.   Joette: Listen. I know that antibiotics have been lifesavers in the past. They have saved people from d

So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration you need — as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: Joette, we’re here to talk again about, “What is homeopathy?” We’re going to answer that question and expound upon that a little bit more today in this podcast.   Joette: Yes, that’s right, Kate. The reason that I wanted to expound on this a little bit more is because last time when we discussed, “What Is Homeopathy?” I gave more of a history of homeopathy so that people can understand what’s behind the story and also what to say to folks.   This time, I would not urge people to get too involved in explaining this, but sometimes we want to have a better understanding ourselves. Should we come across someone who wants a little more explanation, that’s what I wanted to offer today — just to get a little bit clearer about what homeopathy is. Kate: So, in the Gateway II, we talk about this very question, “What is homeopathy?” I know the reason that you put that in there is because you wanted to give people tools that they could use when they’re asked that question. So, I know that you wanted to talk about what you’ve written in your Gateway II study guide.   Joette: Now, Gateway II is the second group that follows after taking Gateway I, which is a study group. These are all virtual study groups for those of you who don’t know what is available for learning experiences. Kate: So, it can be virtual, or it can be some ladies or men. We’ve had a group of men getting together in their home and going through these study guides. It’s a really great resource for people who want to learn more about homeopathy. So, I know you wanted to dive into that book just a little bit.   How the books define homeopathy   Joette: Yes, yes. So, this is what I’ve written. I’m going to read directly from the book, page 35:   “Homeopathy is a system of medicine that’s fundamentally different from conventional allopathic medicine. Whereas allopathic medicine focuses on suppression of symptoms, generally, homeopathy seeks to correct the underlying imbalance that cause the symptoms in the first place. Homeopathy achieves this by strengthening the body’s own defenses, thereby allowing the body to heal itself. Another way to explain homeopathy is that it works on the principle that “like cures like.” This principle says that any substance that can cause illness in a healthy person can cure that illness if manipulated in such a way as to minimize the toxic properties and leave only the curative ability. That’s done, of course, through homeopathic medicines. This is accomplished through a manufacturing process where each medicine is prepared using a series of repeated dilutions and succussions.”   By the way, this is very mathematical and pharmacological. It’s not done willy-nilly. This is done in a very systematic way.   “So, these medicines are made by homeopathic pharmacies in accordance with the standards and processes described in the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, which is HPUS, and are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.”   So, homeopathy is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration because it is considered medicine. They’re not supplements, not herbs, not vitamins, not essential oils. In fact, I used to consider it holistic, and now I’m thinking a little differently about how we present that because as soon as you say holistic, people think that what I mean is it is synonymous with holistic. Homeopathy is not. It is a very specific medical paradigm that does not use conventional drugs. That’s really the best way to put this. Kate: I think that is the main thing that homeopathy is confused with is they hear the word homeopathy, and they think that it means just general natural medicine including all of those things that you mentioned: es

Kate: Hi! Welcome again to another Mom with Moxie podcast. Today, I am here with Sharon.   Sharon, welcome to the podcast!   Sharon: Thank you. I really appreciate the opportunity of talking with you.   Kate: Well, I’m excited to learn more about what you’re doing with homeopathy. I know you have a unique family situation, and that you have a lot of pets that you use homeopathy with.   Sharon: That’s true.   Kate: So, you have a lot of stories about taking care of those pets and using homeopathy. So, I’m excited to hear about that.   Sharon: Well, we live in a country situation. We have lots of strays — cats, dogs, we’ve had a goat or two, a horse. I’m not treating any of those, but we have taken in quite a few stray dogs and stray cats. And we have chickens! My husband was adamant about having chickens so that we could have eggs. I made him promise that we wouldn’t have to eat them.   The chickens have been very healthy overall. But when there has been a problem, it’s very easy to put a pellet in water for them to take. I know that they’re going to get an appropriate dose of what their needing to have for that particular thing that’s going on. So, I’ve given the chickens remedies.   Kate: That’s awesome. Let’s start by getting to know you a little bit better. Tell us a little bit more about yourself.   Sharon: I was born here in California. I am the oldest of five children. My dad, he went to medical school. We moved to Oregon, and he started a general practice. Then we moved several places after that because he wanted to do more education and ended up being a psychiatrist. So, we moved all over the place.   One of the things that I remember that relates to how I ended up becoming interested in homeopathy is that my mom and my sisters and I went to Germany to meet my dad who was already there. Before we went to Germany, we had to have … I don’t know how many … 15 different vaccines because of all the things that we might encounter as far as diseases were concerned.   We also had to use a military dentist. I remember I had so many cavities in my mouth. I don’t know if that was nutrition going on before we were there, but I had all these cavities in my mouth. I ended up with a lot of gut issues that I was having a hard time finding ways to deal with. I believe that it all went back to that period of time where I had so many vaccines in my body and so much mercury in my mouth that that kind of led eventually to me going on a path to become more healthy.   Kate: So, that leads us into how you came to be interested in homeopathy. You talked a little bit about that. Why don’t you tell us a little bit more about the specifics of you learning about homeopathy?   Gut Issues, bronchitis, hormonal issues   Sharon: I had tried many things. I had gut issues. They basically had been there through a lot of my life, but I dealt with them. I didn’t know that there were any other ways to treat them. Especially being the child of a doctor — because there’s always a medical thing that you can do when your father is a doctor. So, all of those things were tried. I got to the point where I was in my, probably, late 20s, early 30s, and I kept getting recurrent bronchitis issues. Whenever I had a cold, it would go straight into my chest.   At one point in my life, I went to school to become a court reporter which is a stenographer kind of a thi

Kate: Joette, a few minutes ago, we were talking about what we did this weekend and last week. We both had occasions where we had to answer the question, “What is homeopathy?” I think this is a really good question that gets asked a lot by the people that I talk to and I’m sure your students, right?   Joette: That’s right, all the time. Kate: So, you had an interesting conversation with someone. I want to hear how you answered that question with this person. So, tell us a little bit about what happened, and who you met, and how you answered that question.   Joette: Well, the person that was asking me the question is a very seasoned businessman, very successful. I had to do a presentation in front of a group, and I was being critiqued on what it is we do in my work. So, it was very important to me that I made it super-clear what it was but without carrying on and on.   It is difficult when someone has been using homeopathy — even if it’s just for a short period of time or even a longer period of time — it’s easy to get caught up on how homeopathic medicines are made because they are made so differently from conventional medicines. Conventional medicines are just … they get a substance, they mimic it synthetically, and they manufacture it in a manufacturing pharmacy.   Homeopathy, of course, is much different than that. So, because of that, many of us — especially in the beginning when we first learn about homeopathy — get caught on that rung of the ladder. When instead, what people are looking for is, “What is this and how can it help me?” Or, “How did it help you, and then I can decide whether or not it could help me.” Kate: It’s almost like — when I’m listening to you talk — that it’s what we learn in sales. Right? I mean, we’re not trying to sell this person on something, but we can overcompensate.   Joette: Oh, yes, we are! I’m trying to sell the world on homeopathy! I want this medicine out there. I think that humanity will be much improved if we can get rid of the dependency that we so deeply have on synthetic drugs. I believe homeopathy can do wonders for the structure of the family. I think it can do wonders for the elderly and for — here’s one of my big things — for independence, because we tend to get depressed. Excuse me for going off on this tangent, but I believe that we, as humans, get depressed when we’re dependent.   My mother is dependent on me. (I don’t think it depresses her. She has late stage Alzheimer’s.) But when she was going into it, it was her greatest concern. It was my father’s greatest concern: “I don’t want to be dependent on you.” That’s why I think it’s so bad for adult children to stay at home too long. I think it’s so bad for people to go on welfare for long periods of time. I understand if it’s needed, in a time of need for a short period of time, but if you want someone to be a fully active, vibrant human being, they have to be independent.   So, if I have not sold you on homeopathy, I have not done my job! I want you to be so sold on homeopathy — not you Kate because you already are — but I want you listeners to be so sold on homeopathy that you can now sell it to others. That’s what I try to do when I explain what homeopathy is.   Allopathy versus homeopathy   So, this is what I said to this group of people. I said, “There were two kinds of medicines in North America. There were the conventional medical doctors (the AMA types that we all know today), and there were the homeopaths. Both went to medical school. The homeopaths went to homeopathic medical school — just as rigorous in those days as conventional medical school was back in those days (in the 20s, the 30s, the 40s, even long before then).   I’ve actually written a book on it! We had just over 100 homeopathic hospitals in the U.S. The conventional medical doctors had just under that … as I recall, it’s something

I think you guys will love to hear from Holly and the things that she’s doing with homeopathy. So, Holly, welcome!   Holly: Hi, Kate. Kate: Thank you for being here, taking time out of a busy family weekend to do this. So, thank you.   Holly: Thank you so much for having me. This is exciting! Kate: I’m super-excited to get to know you. So, tell us a little bit about yourself, Holly.   Holly: Well, I am a somewhat stay-at-home mom. I home school my 13-year old son. I do marketing and communications for our family business. I have been working with homeopathy off and on for about ten years but really only seriously the last few years — maybe three years. Kate: But you’ve known about homeopathy and used it for actually a very long time. You started to use it anyway, right?   Holly: Yes. Yes, I did. Actually, I came across it … we had a tragedy in our family. We lost my stepdaughter to cancer when she was ten years old. Kate: Oh, my goodness!   Holly: It led me on this discovery of alternative medicine, therapies, diet, nutrition. Jordan Rubin, his book, “The Maker’s Diet” … I read … mentioned the Weston A. Price organization, so, I started reading a lot of their information. That’s actually how I found Joette and some of her early information that she had. Again, this was about 12 years ago, I guess.   Then I purchased a homeopathy kit after reading some of Joette’s blog posts and articles that she had published with the Weston Price organization. I didn’t really know how to use it. At that time in my life, I was so busy and absorbed with a toddler. I would just read a little here and there, and I didn’t educate myself enough. So, I didn’t really know what I was doing, and so, I would just use it here and there.   Thankfully, my son was really healthy. We didn’t have a lot of occasion, I guess to use it. So, it kind of went off on a shelf, got dusty, and I forgot about it for a long time. Kate: You seriously forgot about it?   Holly: Well, I knew it was there, but it almost overwhelmed me, I’ll be honest. Because he would get the flu or a couple of little things like that, but I would try it. And I really only understood the classical approach at that time — even that, I barely understood. So, when you see a list of 15 possible remedies, and you’re supposed to analyze your 2-year-old’s emotional state and all of these different things, it seemed impossible to me — or very daunting, I should say that. So, I didn’t have a great success with it and hadn’t really tried to use it a lot. Like I said, I just kind of set it aside, and it would just be in the back of my mind. Kate: I understand what you’re saying, Holly, because when kids are young, they can’t answer your questions. In classical homeopathy, you really have a lot of questions that you could ask them that would be helpful for you to choose the right remedy. So, when kids can’t answer those questions, it makes it a lot more difficult, I think.   Plantar Fasciitis   Holly: Yes. That’s how I felt. So, I was just intimidated by it. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe that it worked. I just thought, “This is probably too much for me right now.”   I had already, at the same time, was delving into learning about nutrition and essential oils and herbal remedies and decided that maybe that was easier for me. So, I spent many years really using oils and making a lot of things from scratch, tinctures a

I know I am. I’m here with Joette.   Joette, you have a new hobby that you’ve been doing this summer. Tell us a little bit about what you’ve got going on.   Swimming and blepharitis   Joette: Well, I’m now in Southeast Florida, and so it’s summer all the time here. Since I’ve moved here, I have found swimming again in my life because there is this pool right at my patio. I mean, literally, I open my gate from my patio out into the little common area, and I could dive into the pool right from there. There are only six units in our complex, and I’m the only one who uses this pool. Kate: It’s like your private pool.   Joette: Oh, my gosh! It’s fantastic. Then I see my neighbors once in a while, and it’s really nice. I’ve been swimming in this pool 45 minutes a day, and it has really limbered me up, and I’m sleeping better, and everything is really great … but then something started to happen.   I started to break out, and my left eye got swollen. I had blepharitis. First, I thought it might have been conjunctivitis, you know, infection. But no, no, it didn’t feel like an infection. It was just, as I said in my Facebook Live, my eye looked like a puffer fish that was pregnant with octuplets and had just finished a meal that was highly inflammatory. Kate: Oh, my gosh!   Joette: I mean, my eye, around my eye was so edematous and so swollen that it turned inside out. The lid turned inside out! I was looking at the inside of my lid as I looked in the mirror. It was so gross. Kate: I was trying to picture that, Joette, as I was listening to you on the Facebook Live. I mean, I don’t even know how that’s possible.   Joette: I mean, I’m laughing now because I’m better. But it got so “fluffy” below and above, and the bridge of my nose widened. I mean I looked, really … I didn’t even look human anymore. Then it got so full and edematous that it just — “poop” — just popped open. Plus, it was cracking. Oh, my gosh, it was a mess! I was obviously in allergic reaction now.   I had an allergic reaction similar to this in seventh grade when my parents got a new car, and we drove down to Florida from Buffalo in this brand-new car. I remember feeling really sick and soporific (is the best way to describe it). I just couldn’t stay awake. I slept the whole time. I felt out of it, drugged even.   We realized later that it must have been the brand-new car. But when we got to Florida two-and-a-half days or three days later, this is exactly what happened to both my eyes. They got very swollen and puffy. My parents were beside themselves. They didn’t know what to do.   But it didn’t bother me that much. I was in seventh grade and life was fun. We were in Florida. It was our first vacation ever, and it was really fun.   Then I didn’t have it again until a few weeks ago.   So, I was in denial as I often go into — as we all do, but I do it a lot. I did not want to accept that it was the pool, that it’s the chlorine in the pool or something in the pool. I don’t know what it was, but I really was thinking pretty much it was the pool.   I stopped wearing all makeup. And, I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I wear a little bit of eyeliner pencil and some lipstick when I go out. That’s it.   So, I stopped that, so then I looked ugly on top of ugly. I looked unkempt on top of ugly! Kate: I’m sure you didn’t.   Joette: Oh, my gosh, it was horrible! Kate: You just talk about it.   Joette: So then, I went out with sunglasses. I wore sunglasses wherever I went because there were times when it looked

Kate: Hi, this is Kate. Today, I’m here with a very special Mom with Moxie. She has some amazing stories that she’s going to share with us. It will have you in tears by the end of this podcast. I’m sure of it. But not sad tears, they’ll be happy tears! So, I’m excited for you all to get to meet Jennifer.   Hi, Jennifer!   Jennifer: Hi, Kate. Thanks for having me. Kate: Oh, of course! We are looking forward to hearing how you’re using homeopathy. Because, really, in your family, you’ve seen some pretty drastic, life-altering changes with homeopathy. So, I’m really excited to have you with us and to share your story.   Jennifer: Thank you. Kate: So, before we get too far, tell us a little bit about yourself.   Jennifer: So, we used to live in New York, and we moved a few years ago to Tennessee. We have animals — chickens, dogs, cats. I raise my three boys. We homeschool, we’ve been homeschooling for 13 or 14 years now. And, that’s about it. Kate: One of the things that we’re going to talk about today, Jennifer, has to do with something that happened before you moved from New York. Why don’t you tell us a little about what happened while you were in New York and one of the reasons that you got into homeopathy?   An undiagnosed illness   Jennifer: Well, a few years ago, my son started exhibiting just signs of fatigue and just tiredness, headaches, things like that. So, we took him to the doctor a few times, different doctors. We weren’t getting any answers or results. And, there’s another doctor (and some friends) who suggested possibly considering Lyme disease and asked if he’d ever been bitten by a tick.   And we said, “Well, yes, actually he has. And that little tick had been on there a couple of days before he was ever even noticed by my son.”   So, he started to continue to develop more signs of illness, but we couldn’t get any positive Lyme disease test results. So, we just kept looking for answers and moving along in that direction — the path of Lyme disease — just trying to find some connections because he was exhibiting all the typical signs that you would see in someone with Lyme disease.   So, we ended up moving here a couple of years after that. He continued to get sicker and sicker. He was exhibiting signs of insomnia, dizziness. He was having heart trouble, headaches, chronic headaches daily, chronic fatigue. He was unable to run anymore — went from not being able to run to not being able to walk. He just didn’t have the strength. He had the headaches. He was just so exhausted. Walking was a chore. Walking made him dizzy.   Any movement made him dizzy, chemical sensitivities and food sensitivities, motion sensitivities, had difficulty walking up the stairs — that was a big one. Walking up the stairs was hard for him to do, and I’m talking about 12 or 13 stairs. By the time he would get to the top, he would just have to either sit on the ground and catch his breath or wait for the dizziness to pass. So, that was difficult for him. He had so many symptoms. I can’t quite think of them all. Oh, the sore joints and bones — that was a big one. He had very sore joints and bones. Kate: So, this was life-altering. This wasn’t, oh, some mild illness. He had trouble getting out of bed every day, had trouble just functioning, right?   Jennifer: Yes, every day was a challenge just for him to get out of bed, just so he could get to the couch. Just so he could make it to be around everybody else in the family and try to just engage in some type of daily activity with us. But he didn’t have any energy to do anything. And this just progressively got worse over the last few years. We just kept searching for answers through all that time just visiting different doctors, different types of doctors.   The thing i

Some of my students have really caught my eye. Some of you have done all you can to learn how to cure those around you using homeopathic medicines, and your successes inspire me. They’re glorious and powerful, and I can’t keep these successes a secret any longer. So, with help from my roving reporters, we bring you a mini-podcast series that I call “Moms with Moxie.” Sometimes we even interview “Dads with Audacity.” See how regular mothers and others, average people who want to cure those around them, have gone from freaking to fabulous with homeopathy. Kate: Parents dream that they can pass on things to their children that are important to them. Homeopathy is something that we would all love to see our children embrace as they grow and have families of their own.   Today I’d like you to meet a mother/daughter duo that is doing just that … learning homeopathy together and sharing it with their family, friends and now, sharing their passion for homeopathy through study groups. Sheena has passed her love of homeopathy on to her daughter, Lucy, and the rest of her family. Even Sheena’s husband, a practicing physician trained in conventional medicine, is supportive of her family using homeopathy.   Lucy is going to share something very special she is doing in just a bit, but first, I’d like you to hear from Sheena, Lucy’s mom. Sheena, tell us what Lucy is doing, and why you think it’s important.   A study group for teenagers   Sheena: Lucy is going to lead her own Gateway to Homeopathy study group, and it’s going to be just for teens. No parents are going to be invited. Kate: They’re not allowed!   Sheena: We’re not allowed. The reason is because teens are different, and their needs and their conversations will be different.   But I think it’s really important for that age group to learn homeopathy … for a couple of reasons. One is that we really are experimenting with our children’s immune systems right now. We’ve never had so many generations where kids have not had childhood illnesses. We don’t know what that’s going to do because our immune systems haven’t been trained the way they have in the past. So, I think these kids are really going to need a medicine to deal with what their bodies will have to be dealing with.   The other reason is teens like to do their own thing. They don’t necessarily want to do what their parents want them to do. They like to find their own way. They should know how to use homeopathy and decide for themselves if it’s the right choice to use it. I think they’ll be more empowered if they do that.   The other thing I’ve really seen with the teenagers is the fear-mongering that adults get, I think, is exponential for the teens: the fear of illness … just the fears of everything. And fear basically forces us or pushes us to make very bad decisions in a rush based on fear, instead of making a choice based on knowledge. If you make it based on fear, such as the fear of fevers, can lead to bad choices. Kate: Yes, it can almost debilitate us from thinking clearly because we’re scared to think that we can’t handle them ourselves. So yes, homeopathy is very empowering in that way.   Sheena: I have a lot of Lucy’s friends and my other daughter’s friends who I’ve given homeopathy to — with their parents’ permission — and the kids come back to me for more. Not the parents, but the kids come back for more because they feel it in their bodies, and they see that it’s very curative, and they feel better. Especially, muscular skeletal injuries of the athletes … I find it really interesting that it’s the kids who want more and, in some cases, ask their parents to learn so that they can use homeopathy on them. Kate: Yes, thank you, Sheena.   We’re going to switch over now. We’re going to meet Lucy, her daughter, who is stepping out, and she wants to share homeopathy with other teenagers. She’s going to start a Gateway to Homeopathy 1 study group. She is looking for other teenagers who might be interested in joining her.   So, I’m excited for you all to get to meet Lucy and to hear about what she’s got going on.   Hi Lucy.   Lucy: Hi. Kate: I’m super-glad to have you here with us today.   Lucy: Thank you

So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration you need — as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy. Kate: Good morning, Joette. Joette: Hi Kate, always good to see you. Kate: Another podcast, super-excited because we’re going to talk about the Banerjis today! I want people to know — I want to know — more about your time at the Banerji clinic, and how you came to meet them. Maybe you’ll sneak in some protocols that you learned there that we haven’t heard a lot about. So, I’m excited for the podcast today. Joette: Okay, great. This is podcast what, number 70 or 71 or something? Kate: I think it will be, like, 73 … something like that. You have done a lot of podcasts! There is so much to learn; I feel like we could go on forever. Joette: Oh, that’s my goal — into eternity. Kate: You can never retire. I know a lot of people are wondering. They’re worried that someday you might retire, and then what? We’ll be stuck. Joette: Yeah, I don’t know that I’ll retire. I might slow down a bit, but I can’t imagine stopping this altogether. It’s in my blood now. Kate: Yeah, I can’t imagine you not doing it either. Okay, so let’s talk about the Banerjis. Tell me, Joette, a little about how did you come to find out about the Banerjis and then start your discussions with them. Learning about the Banerjis and their background Joette: Well, if you’re in the homeopathic community, you couldn’t help but hear about them. So, some 20-some years ago, I heard at one of our national conferences, “You know, there are these … this father and son team in India who each sees a hundred patients per day.” I thought to myself, “That’s impossible. How could that possibly be?” Because I only knew classical homeopathy which requires that you take a case that lasts at least an hour, more often an hour and a half. Then you’ve got hours’ worth of work after it often. So, I was incredulous. Then about a year or so later, I went to another conference, and someone else said exactly the same thing, “You know, there is this father and son team in India who each sees a hundred patients per day.” I said, “I just, I don’t get it.” So, I had always known that if I really wanted to learn homeopathy in great depth that I had to work alongside a homeopath that was seeing many patients per day and had not had any interruptions in his education and the generation before him or the generation before him. Kate: So, I have a question. Let me stop you right there for a second. When they were talking about these Banerjis seeing a hundred patients a day, were they talking about them in a negative way or just sort of matter-of-fact way? How were they portrayed? Joette: No, it was just matter of fact. It was of interest because we were all heavily burdened and mired down with these heavy classical methodologies that require that it took us an hour and a half to take a case. It’s not that we were complaining because we didn’t know any other way. But it was certainly something that was so juxtapositioned that it pricked up my ears. Kate: Maybe we’re jumping ahead of ourselves here, but that leads me to think about the Banerjis and how they originally started. They must have used the classical method of practicing homeopathy, is that their background as well? Joette: Well, it had been passed down through their families. Each of them had studied homeopathy. So, they had all gone to homeopathy school, but in India, that’s medical school. So, they were medical homeopathic physicians. They had gone through many years of study and had put their time in so that they could be in practice and understand. I mean, obviously if you’re in medical school, you’ve got anatomy, physiology, pathology, et cetera. That’s a very important basis of being in practice. So yes, they did have traditional homeopathy as their background. But when your patients are lining up in front of your clinic — your research center — the night before, and they’re bussing them in from small villages, and as they open the doors of the bus — and I’ve watched this daily when I worked there — and the doors would open, the bulging bus would empty out, I don’t know, 80 people, 100 people? I don’t know. Maybe I’m exaggerating but at least 80 people. Then they would just line up and sit on the sidewalk with th

Kate: Hi! This is Kate, and I’m here today with Mary. I’m looking forward to some of the things that Mary is going to be sharing with us. So welcome, Mary, to the podcast.   Mary: Thanks, Kate. Great to be here! Kate: Great to have you. All right, let’s get to know you a little bit. Can you tell our listeners a little bit about yourself?   Mary: I’m a retired air traffic controller, and also, I’m a private pilot. Well, I’m a commercial pilot — that’s a different rating. So, I used to tell the pilots what to do and fly for fun. Kate: Oh my gosh! How exciting is that? Have you done this your whole life?   Mary: Yes, since I was 26. Kate: Was it like a childhood dream?   Mary: No, it was divine intervention. Kate: Okay! Well, tell us.   Mary: I got out of high school. I was going to get married and have kids. I didn’t get married and have kids, so, I went to work. Then the steel mills went under because of foreign imports. Then I took a job with my husband’s credit union. I wanted to run for the board of directors. They told me if I run for the board of directors, they would fire me. In the meantime, they gave the air traffic controller’s test out. But you had to die in order to get a job. So then, I went to work, and then the strike came, and I got hired — divine intervention. Kate: Wow! I think it sounds super-fascinating. So, you said you have your commercial license, as well. Did you fly as a pilot then for an airline?   Mary: No, you have different ratings. So, you have a private pilot’s license, and then you have an instrument rating, and then you have a commercial pilot’s license. It’s just a rating. Kate: Oh, okay, I see. I bet you have some pretty interesting stories from your days as an air traffic controller.   Mary: Oh, I do. Now, they have this thing called ATC live where you can listen. Back in my day, they didn’t. So, I could say whatever I wanted and not get caught. Kate: So, anybody can listen to air traffic controllers, is that what you’re saying?   Mary: Yes! Yes! Kate: What? I didn’t know this.   Mary: See? You don’t even have to be in an airplane. Kate: Oh, my goodness! That’s amazing. So how do you do that?   Mary: Download the app, I guess, ATC Live. Kate: ATC Live. Mary: Or Live ATC … it’s one of the two. Kate: Okay, wow! So, you’re a pilot. You’re an air traffic controller. What else?   Mary: I’m a homeopath. So, I mean, talk about oxymorons. I mean, that is yin and yang. They’re two different brains. Kate: How did that happen?   Mary: Well, my husband retired when he was 50, and he wanted a dog. I said I didn’t want a dog. But my girlfriend had this Dalmatian, and she had two little boys, and Dalmatians are very high energy. She gave the dog up, and she was the sweetest dog. I said, “I cannot believe you gave that dog up.”   She said, “I can’t believe you wanted her.”   So, she got the dog back, and we adopted her dog after six months. She was six months old when we got her.   So, she had these terrible allergies. I took her to the special vet. They shaved her hind legs, stuck with 57 needles, told me I had to feed her kangaroo or moose, gave me two vials to give her a needle twice a day. Six months later and a thousand dollars, she was just as bad if not worse. They said, “Well, it’s not an exact science.” Kate: I think that’s a pretty common story, what you’re saying. Our dog had allergies, kind of the similar thing. So, I think you’re speaking to the masses here. Mary: Exactly. Which is why Joette’s course on allergies is fabulous, and as long as somebody’s going to practice, it might as well be you. Kate: Yeah. So, that’s how you originally got into ho

Kate: Hi, Sara! Welcome to the podcast today. Sara: Hi, Kate. I’m so glad to be here — really excited! Kate: We’re excited to have you. I know that you’ve been studying homeopathy for a little while now, but you dove in head first and tried to discover how to heal your family. So, I know that there are some things that our listeners can learn from the way that you are studying homeopathy. So, I’m excited to hear about what you’re doing, and how you’re working with your family to help their bodies heal. Sara: I’m really excited to share. Even if it’s helpful to one person, I’m just elated to be here to do that. Kate: Right. We often feel inadequate. I know that I don’t feel like I should be doing this, but I think that we all have things to share. I know Joette was really excited about a couple of things in particular that you are doing and that she wanted her listeners to hear. But before we get into that, Sara, let’s hear a little bit about you and your family. Sara: Okay. Well, I live in the Denver area, and I am a mom of four. We have chronic issues with some of my kids, then myself also, which led me to stumbling into homeopathy. Kate: So, had you done other natural methods of healing before homeopathy? Or what were you doing to address your family’s health needs up until this point? Sara: Well, allopathic measures and food supplements, changing food diet, things like that. But never homeopathy until a year ago or so. Kate: So, how did you learn about homeopathy? Warts and Thuja 30 Sara: Well, I learned about it because my daughter had probably a nickel-sized wart on her knee that just kept growing and growing. She had a lot of other things going on with her body, but I didn’t even know how to begin to address them. But I thought, “Well, let’s focus on the wart.” So, I went to the natural groceries locally and was looking at the containers made from Boiron and found one that they had labeled for warts. I got that, started giving it to my daughter, and over about a few months, the wart was completely gone. Kate: So, you probably thought, “What is this stuff that I just gave my daughter and that healed her?” Sara: Oh, I did definitely. And I saw a bunch of the other problems I knew that she had go away at the same time — that I didn’t know would even have been linked with that remedy. Kate: Wow! That’s pretty incredible! So then, what did you do next? Sara: I gave her this homeopathic remedy with the intentions of just removing her wart. But she was also biting her fingernails down to the quick. She had frequent UTIs — like, every couple of weeks. She frequently cried of pain in her double-jointed knees. She was tearful and sobbing multiple times a day (very fragile) and getting hot or sweating really caused a lot of distress with her. Over that same amount of period of time in which I was giving her these remedies, all of those things subsided or went away. She hasn’t had any UTIs, no pain in her double-jointed knees. Her fingernails are long; we have to use clippers now to clip her nails. Kate: Oh, wow! That’s great. Sara: All of that with one remedy … which were all of the other things that I knew were disturbing her that needed to be worked on, but I didn’t even know how to approach. Kate: So, what remedy did you use from Boiron? Sara: Thuja 30. Kate: How often did you give it to her? Sara: Once a day. I started off giving her Thuja 6, twice a day. And I thought, “Well, let’s just try Thuja 30.” So, we just stuck with that. Ka

Podcast 70 – Rethinking Detox

IN THIS PODCAST, WE COVER: 01:11 Joette’s new course 05:05 Healing Paradigms 09:00 MTHFR gene, unhappy liver 13:26 Detoxing after vaccines, dental work 16:18 Toxic lungs 19:14 Detoxing from chemotherapy LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS PODCAST: NEW COURSE: “Rethinking Detox with Practical Homeopathy®: How to Stop Stressing About Toxins and Fearlessly Achieve Health the Simple Way.” Kate: This is the Practical Homeopathy® Podcast Episode Number 70 with Joette Calabrese. Joette: This is Joette Calabrese, and I’d like to welcome you to the Practical Homeopathy Podcast. Kate: Good evening, Joette.   Joette: Hi, Kate! Normally, we do this in the morning, but now we’re doing it in the evening. Kate: Right! It’s kind of a change for us.   Joette: Yes, it is. Kate: So, we want to get into a different subject tonight. You are getting ready to teach another course … on toxins! Tell us a little bit more about this course that you have in the works.   Joette’s new course   Joette: Well, the title of the course — and this is a real mouthful — is “Rethinking Detox with Practical Homeopathy®: How to Stop Stressing About Toxins and Fearlessly Achieve Health the Simple Way.”   (Okay, see if you can repeat that now. It’s a long one!)   So, we’re going to be talking about rethinking detoxification — being toxic. We’re going to rethink that. I’m going to address it from the homeopathic perspective, and from the practical homeopathic perspective which is even more different than classical homeopathy, more different from naturopathy, from functional medicine, from conventional medicine, from chiropractic.   This is a completely different way of viewing things.   Up until about ten years ago, I didn’t hear much from clients and students about toxicity. It became more prevalent in their conversations with me in the last … I would say … last decade. I believe that’s because more and more folks are going to alternative practitioners, and alternative practitioners are where these ideas often emanate.   But a big part of this, especially now that I’ve heard this so many times with so many clients and students, is it harkens back to when I suffered from toxic thinking. It really did affect my thinking. I actually became obsessed with avoiding toxins. I had been declared as “toxic” by a functional medical doctor at Yale University. So, I became obsessed with trying to detox my body. Let me tell you. I got pretty neurotic about it.   This was in the 80s. So, I had plenty of time to mull this over and think it through, but what gave me my comfort and my cadence was homeopathy. It actually offered me my way out of that paranoia. I lived with it for a long time because I had been not well for many years — and I had a little break in my 20s and maybe until about 32 — but other than those few years, I had been suffering from allergies and chemical sensitivities and asthma, et cetera. Kate: You tried a lot of things, Joette, before you came to homeopathy to heal your body.   Joette: Yes, I did. I used functional medicine. I used chiropractic, essential oils, years of supplements — years of all of these! This was not, “Let’s try this this month and try that the next month,” … vitamin therapy, herbalism.   I still hold to herbalism. I think it’s an excellent method. I think that chiropractic can be also very valuable. I don’t discount the other methods as well, but homeopathy and botanicals and chiropractic is pretty much where I landed. I landed more steadily on a firm ground as far as I’m concerned with homeopathy. Kate: Joette, did you see a naturopath in this journey while you were trying to figure out how to heal your body?   Joette: Yes, I did see a naturopath. I saw a couple of naturopaths. Kate: I know that naturopaths and functional medicine doctors are really popular right now. So, talk a little bit about that for a moment, how we can figure out what path to take for healing.   Healing Paradigms   Joette: Well, one of the problems with naturopathy, functional MD, is that it’s completely different than homeopathy. That might not be a problem for those who are seeking naturopathy. But it is pretty much the opposite in many ways to homeopathy.   Most people figure, “Well, more knowledge is better.”   Well, too much knowledge can be very confusing.   “Well, why don’t I just get all these tests and find out?”   Well, because there is a different way of interpreting these tests. So, we have to be careful not to straddle too many worlds.   We almost have to
