How much can the individual transform without the role of an outside call? How do we navigate the fine line between rebuke and shaming? Appropriating a plethora of voices from the Biblical text to modern psychologists and philosophers, this lecture explores the role of the individual and society in our ethical decisions, grappling with the psychological consequences of living in shame vs. guilt cultures, and offers a radical reading of the ‘other’ as a mechanism towards self-transformation.
About The Speaker:
Tanya White is an international lecturer, writer, and educator with a focus on Tanach and Contemporary Jewish Thought. She is a Senior Lecturer at Matan Women’s Institute for Torah Studies and teaches at other institutions including Pardes and LSJS. Tanya holds a doctorate in Jewish Philosophy from Bar Ilan University and is the recipient of the Schupf Fellowship for outstanding students.
