Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Hisham (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would learn the following du’a for when the new month or new year would begin: اللّهم أَدْخِلْهُ عَلينا بِالأمْنِ وَالإيمان، وَالسَّلامَةِ وَالإسْلام، وِجوارٍ مِّنَ الشَّيْطان، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِّنَ الرَّحْمن. Allahumma adkhilhu ‘alayna bil amni wal iman, was salamati wal islam, wa jiwarim minash shaytan, wa ridwanim minar Rahman. O Allah, bring this [month or year] upon us with security, iman, safety, Islam, protection from shaytan, and your pleasure. (Mu’jamus Sahabah of Baghawi, & Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, Hadith: 6237) Let’s Ponder upon the way in which Allah سبحانه وتعالى presents to us the weighty month of Muharram. It is a sacred month alongside Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijjah and Rajab. Indeed, it is a month of marking a transformation.

n this month of Muharram, like in any month of the year, there are many important events that took place from which the Muslim generations can learn many lessons. However, today we are going to focus on one of the most important events that took place in this month and on the 10th day of Muharram, and that is the Shahadah of the grandson of Rasulallah (ﷺ) , Hussain ibn Ali (rz) and his family and friends at the hands of other Muslims. This event and the incidents that led up to this tragedy needs to be reflected upon by every Muslim of all times so we can learn valuable lessons from it and refresh our commitment to the obedience of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى).

Such are the parables that We put forward to mankind that they may reflect.” [Al-Hashr, 59:21] Allah سبحانه وتعالى makes it clear that if He had sent the Qur’an upon a mountain with its immense size and magnitude, that the mountain would be impacted and would humble itself and would divide or crumble from the fear of Allah. Let us ask ourselves, the Qur’an was not revealed for the mountains but revealed for us-- Do we feel the impact of the Quran in our life?

The Saleh (Righteous) vs. The Musleh (Reformer) Prophet Saleh, (may peace be upon him), was a descendant of the great prophet Nuh (may peace be upon him). He was sent by Allah to the nation of Thamud who lived in Al Hijr, located in Arabia. Prophet Saleh (may peace be upon him) was a well-respected and respected and accomplished person within his community. However, when he brought the message of Islam (Musleh), things changed. Let's examine what changed and how we can take lessons for our lives today.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when US Union Major General Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Galveston, Texas, in accordance with then US President Abraham Lincoln's 1863 Emancipation Proclamation. Over 150 years has passed since this commeration and today, this date has taken center stage as the US Congress passed a bill this week to commemorate the end of slavery and recognize June 19 as "Juneteenth National Independence Day". Let's examine what's changed since 1865 and what’s the role of Muslims and Islam towards humanity today.

Hence, we Muslims bind ourselves by worshiping Him(سبحانه وتعالى) alone as He(سبحانه وتعالى) is indeed the only diety to be worshiped. What responsibilities does accepting the Shahadah entail?
