Show Notes

Van Allen Probe A, a NASA satellite, plummeted back to Earth over the Pacific Ocean, with some debris potentially surviving. Despite the risk of harm to people on the ground, it was estimated at one in four thousand two hundred. Launched in 2012, the satellite studied Earths Van Allen radiation belts for seven years before running out of fuel in 2019. Intense solar activity accelerated its demise, originally expected to last until 2034. Its twin, Van Allen Probe B, remains in orbit and is set to last until after 2030.
