Rev Jesse Jackson Senior, a civil rights icon, lies in state at the South Carolina Capitol, following his passing at age 84. Born in Greenville, his activism began in segregated hometown, leading to a lifelong push for equality. He caught Martin Luther King Jrs attention, marching for voting rights and later carrying the torch after Kings death. Jackson ran for presidential nomination twice, advocating for jobs, education, healthcare, and the poor. Hes only the second Black man to receive this honor in South Carolina, following a ceremony with the civil rights anthem Lift Every Voice and Sing.
