Press freedom in the Americas plummeted in 2025, according to a new report from the Inter American Press Association. The group found rising homicides, arrests, and lack of punishment for attacks on journalists, with Venezuela and Nicaragua labeled as having no freedom of speech at all. Several other countries, including Ecuador, Bolivia, Honduras, Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Cuba, and El Salvador, were in the high restriction category.
