Former CHP Officer and Drunk Driver Charged with Felony Murder in Fatal Freeway Crash

A former California Highway Patrol officer and a drunk driver have been charged with felony murder in a chain-reaction crash that killed four young people on the southbound six-oh-five freeway in Norwalk last summer. The former officer, Angelo Rodriguez, was speeding over 130 mph without lights or sirens when he rear-ended the victims Nissan, disabling it. Instead of helping, he pulled over, waited three minutes, checked his car, and drove away before returning. The drunk driver, Iris Salmeron, plowed into the stalled Nissan, causing the deaths. Both face four counts of second-degree murder. The victims were still alive after the first hit and included Juliana Hamori, Armond Del Campo, Jordan Partridge, and Sam Skocilic. Salmerons blood-alcohol level was far above the legal limit. This case echoes a recent one where another ex-officer got fifteen years to life for a high-speed drunk-driving wreck on the same freeway.
