A new plaque at the U.S. Capitol honors police officers who defended the building during the January 6th, 2021 riot. The inscription thanks them for protecting democracy, marking the first official recognition of that violent day. Despite a lawsuit, the plaque was installed, but its not exactly where the law specified and lacks the full list of names. More than 150 officers were injured, and five died. Republican Senator Thom Tillis pushed for its installation, praising the officers for pushing back thousands of rioters.
