46-year-old Houston native George Floyd’s tragic death at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers galvanized a worldwide movement to end police brutality against Black men and communities of color. His frantic last moments were captured by a passing 17-year-old high school student, and were subsequently broadcast around the entire world. Former MPD Officer Derek Chauvin delicately balanced his knee upon George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 horrifying seconds, until his heart stopped beating. Floyd’s murder has confronted every American with a vitally important and timely question: Do Black lives really matter?
