She began her fasting journey in January 2022, inspired by a friend who practiced the 16:8 fasting method. Despite not experiencing rapid weight loss, with only a 21-pound loss over 18 months, Jayne emphasizes the non-scale victories she has achieved, such as improved energy levels, reduced need for thyroid medication, and better overall health. She discusses the challenges of menopause, and the importance of mindset in her journey.Throughout the conversation, Jayne highlights the significance of adapting fasting methods to individual needs, such as transitioning to alternate-day fasting (ADF). She shares her experiences with various diets and the realization that intermittent fasting offers a sustainable lifestyle rather than a quick fix. Jayne and Gin also discuss the impact of genetics on weight and health, and the importance of listening to one's body. Takeaways:• Intermittent fasting can lead to significant non-scale victories, such as improved energy and health, even if weight loss is slow.• Mindset and community support play crucial roles in maintaining a sustainable fasting lifestyle.• Genetics can influence weight and health, highlighting the importance of personalized approaches to fasting.• It's essential to eat enough during eating windows and choose nutritious foods to support fasting success. At the end of the episode, Jayne has three pieces of advice for anyone new to IF: 16:8 may not be enough for you to see weight loss, make sure you eat enough rather than accidentally over-restricting, and what you choose to eat to close your eating window can affect the next day’s fast.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources. Joanne explored a few diets, including calorie counting and hypnotherapy, with little success. Her breakthrough came in August 2022, when she discovered intermittent fasting through Gin's book, Delay, Don't Deny, leading to a steady and sustainable weight loss journey. Joanne highlights the psychological and physical benefits she experienced, including improved emotional balance, stronger physical fitness, and the ability to enjoy activities like stick fighting and yoga. Her story also touches on family support and how intermittent fasting has fit seamlessly into her lifestyle. Joanne's advice for newcomers to intermittent fasting is to approach the journey with self-love and patience. It is essential to adopt intermittent fasting for oneself and not others, finding a supportive community can be invaluable. While the weight may not fall off quickly, the non-scale victories and improved well-being are worth the effort. Be kind to yourself, give it time, and remember that persistence is key.Get Gin’s books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Good news! Despite initial resistance, especially from his wife and children in the medical field, James stood by his commitment to intermittent fasting. He prefers natural and wholesome meals, and keeps his window flexible while also remaining consistent. His success story serves as an inspiration for those facing similar opposition in their health journeys.James's advice for those starting with intermittent fasting is to know your 'why.' Understanding the personal reasons and health goals behind adopting intermittent fasting is crucial for staying committed. He encourages beginners to start with achievable goals, like a 12-hour fast, and gradually extend their fasting windows. She remembers first being self-conscious about her weight at the age of 7, and that set her on a path of not feeling confident in her body. Despite these struggles, she was always health and fitness focused. Even so, after going through menopause, she found herself at 197 pounds in December of 2023, and she knew she needed to make a change. Watching her parents struggle with both health and mobility later in life made her determined to keep herself strong and healthy, but she lost confidence that she could lose the weight she had put on. In April of 2024, Suzanne was listening to the Fit Strong Women podcast, where she first encountered Gin, who was a guest. Intrigued, she read Fast Feast Repeat immediately, and started fasting. She didn’t have confidence that IF would work for her, but by July/August of that year, her clients suddenly started asking her if she was losing weight. That gave her more confidence, and now, a year later, Suzanne is down around 50 pounds. She is no longer on two medications she used to take, and she feels amazing. She shares intermittent fasting with her clients when they are receptive.Suzanne’s parting advice to new intermittent fasters: know that it takes time, and understand that you won’t feel your best for the first couple of weeks.Get Gin’s books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html.
