For many readers and theologians, the Old and New Testaments (Tanach and the Christian bible) feel disconnected. It’s something that has been an element driving replacement theology. Recently, the “Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem” issued a joint statement explicitly condemning Christian Zionism as a harmful and damaging ideology. Their statement accuses local individuals who promote it of misleading public opinion, sowing confusion, and undermining the unity of the Church. The statement further states, “The Patriarchs and Heads of Churches further note with concern that these individuals have been welcomed at official levels both locally and internationally.” It's ironic that days earlier, Christian leaders throughout Israel were welcomed and celebrated by Israel’s head of state, President Herzog, at the President’s residence, hosted with honor and respect. The memorial for Charlie Kirk has been described as one of the most powerful and uplifting spiritual events this century, paying proper tribute to a giant of a man cut down in the prime of his life. It was an historic day in Israel, a day of euphoria and celebration, that these Christian friends got to experience in person. All the living hostages were released by Hamas and returned to Israel from which they were kidnapped two years ago. The bodies of 28 remaining hostages, most of whom were killed in captivity, are starting to be released. But Hamas is still standing, threatening Israelis and Gazans. 2000 terrorists are being released, 250 of whom are serving one to as many as dozens of life sentences. The victims and family members of these terrorists are scarred. Israelis know that 82% of previous terrorists released have gone back to terror.
