Show Notes

Dwight Chapin, author of THE PRESIDENT’S MAN: The Memoirs of Nixon’s Trusted Aide, helped lay out and execute President Richard Nixon’s historic trip to China in 1972. A half century later, he’s one of the few members of the traveling delegation still alive to tell the story of how it happened, and what went down on the ground when Nixon met with Mao. Fifty years after Air Force One left Shanghai, Chapin considers what the trip means in today’s context, and where the bilateral relationship might be heading.
