U.S. Air Force Captain Seth R. Koval, a Purdue University graduate and experienced instructor pilot, tragically lost his life in a KC-135 tanker crash in Iraq on March 12, 2026. Alongside him, two other Ohio airmen, Captain Curtis J. Angst and Technical Sergeant Tyler H. Simmons, also perished. Koval, with 19 years of service and multiple overseas deployments, was a respected figure in his community of Mooresville, Indiana. The cause of the crash, which involved two aircraft in friendly airspace, is under investigation by the Department of Defense.
