Haileys Law Passes Indiana: New Bills Protect Kids from Online Predators, Enhance Missing Child Alerts
Two bills inspired by Hailey Buzbees tragic death have passed the Indiana General Assembly, aiming to better protect kids from online predators and improve missing child alerts. The measures, now headed to Governor Mike Brauns desk, address gaps in current systems and the risks of social media grooming.
One key bill imposes tough restrictions on social media platforms, requiring age and location verification, parental consent for users under sixteen, and parental control over contacts and visibility. It also bans addictive tools and tracking for ads or recommendations.
The other bill expands alerts by allowing Silver Alerts for missing children and easing strict Amber Alert rules. If signed, these measures could prevent similar tragedies and face enforcement through lawsuits by the state attorney general.
