Green Building, Westfields Oldest Commercial Structure, Relocates to New Home Near City Hall
The historic Green Building, Westfields oldest commercial structure, is set to move to its permanent location just west of City Hall this Friday. This relocation is part of the State Road thirty-two widening project, where the nearly two-hundred-year-old building will be saved and restored instead of being demolished.
Local residents, like fifth-generation Westfielder Judi Shuck, have fond memories of the building, which once served as a grocery store and a popular cafeteria known for its pies. The intersection of Union Street and State Road thirty-two will be closed from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the move.
Once settled, the building will be restored to its original clapboard look, shedding its current green paint. The road project is expected to wrap up by the end of the year, and preservation efforts like this one help maintain the towns history as it continues to grow.
