On the Importance of Pulling Back to a Broader Perspective

Reductionist thinking dominates our age, a narrow focus on elements within the larger whole... whether its science, history, biology, spirituality, this trend seems all-pervasive. Multifaceted and multi-disciplinary minds were common in previous ages, those able and willing to build up a totality of context much like a puzzle, allowing a full picture to slowly emerge... Might this trend be a step backwards, negative, dangerous, and cause us to miss the forest for the trees?
