Questions Marcelo will ask the speaker: What are the challenges of preparing a Budget in a legal area where we know that calculations, metrics, statistics and other data models are not part of the lawyer's daily life? We know that communication not only in topics such as the Budget but in many others, in fact in all topics is something that must be encouraged and reinforced, drawing on this topic, how important internal and external communication is for the creation of a Budget effective? Thinking about accuracy, is there any budget model that you think is more assertive, how do you know which is the best Budget model (opening) for my company? So once all the assumptions have been aligned with the team, the teams in turn are safe for the defense, can you give us some tips for sustaining the numbers against the approval area? We know this is the hardest part, especially when you need more money compared to growing your business. How can we know if we are asking enough, when we can know if we need to ask for more? Leave an extra Budget or not? What is the role of the Legal Ops team in the composition of the Legal Budget? Ep 351Attorney Task Management: Beyond LPM

We've seen an increasing number of requests for help around task management that go beyond traditional legal project management tools. Associates wants to see everything assigned to them, and be able to manage it without partners seeing how they're doing so. Partners want to see tasks they’ve assigned across clients and matters. The problem seems like one that should be easily solved with technology, but when you dig into the issues, you realize that no one has a good solution. What is getting in the way of delivering a task management solution that works for attorneys? Questions Holly will be asking Floor: 1. Firms have tried using a lot of different technologies to help associates manage their tasks and give partners insight into status, but most of these efforts haven’t been successful. Why is this so difficult to solve? 2. Oftentimes, when we hear from attorneys on this topic, the conversation starts with them saying “I want this technology”, but we know that if a technology could solve the issue we wouldn’t be having this conversation. How can we have a more productive conversation with our attorneys, not just on this topic, but generally? 3. The term ‘innovation’ gets used a lot, but again, it often seems to be used when discussing technological solutions. What would be a better way of having a conversation about innovation? Ep 346Has the Time Come for Passwords to Take a Back Seat to Security

The majority of breaches today no longer come through delivered malware as our systems have become very strong with detecting and blocking these resulting in more effort than value for the attacker. Instead, it’s easier, faster and more economical to just try and steal your password, or better yet have you provide it yourself. This podcast takes a look at the security risks that are actually derived from one of our more important security controls… passwords; and look at what we can do to minimize those risks moving forward. Questions Dave will ask the speakers: A recent study by Verizon found that more than 80 percent of breaches through hacking involve brute force or the use of lost or stolen credentials. Microsoft estimates that there are 921 password attacks per second. We’ve been educated for years by the security industry and our awareness programs that passwords are the most crucial component to protecting our environments and our information. How is it that this sacred key to our kingdom is actually resulting in opening so many doors for attackers? NIST has taken steps to try and reduce the bleeding with their new Password guidelines and best practices which encourage passphrases of more characters, less complexity and less changes. Are these steps in the right direction to actually keeping us secure? Many security tools are now providing artificial intelligence around login requests that look to see if the member is coming from a known device and location prior to providing access. Would implementing these types of risk based controls with MFA and a passphrase by the answer to our problems? Biometrics for authentication always seemed to be the next logical step for passwords. We have our basic biometrics on devices however, those are all back supported by a password or PIN. Will we ever get to a place where we’re truly only using biometrics for all authentication? I understand that Apple, Google and Microsoft are working on a solution together that will get rid of passwords. Instead, they will just leverage the biometrics on your phone as your access code to everything. With this in mind do we just need to sit tight and all our troubles will soon be fixed? Ep 330Mobile Devices: We Use Them All Day Long - When Do We Start Protecting Them?

This podcast interview session will take a look into our mobile devices (super computers in our pocket) and the built in (or lack there of) security around them. Can we rely on our devices out of box as long as they’re managed or has the time come where we need to take mobile security to the next level? Questions that David will ask speaker: 1. Mobile devices are essentially a smaller version of a computer that can fit in your pocket. They’re on us and in use almost all the time. Confidential information flows to, from and through them, yet we don’t seem to secure them to the same level as a computer. Is that because they’re just secure out of the box? Or are we missing something? 2. What types of threats and attacks should we be concerned about with our mobile devices? 3. A lot of organizations may say we use MDM (mobile device management) to secure our mobile fleet of devices. Is an MDM sufficient? 4. If out of the box security and usage of an MDM is not quite enough, what addition protections should we be looking at? 5. How should different usage patterns and user interfaces of mobile devices factor into an organization's model of the mobile security threat and mobile security solutions? 6.Obviously budgets and staff have an influence on just how much security you can deploy and manage. What would be the top 3 items that all businesses and mobile users should put into place to help protect their mobile devices? If we have learned one thing from the pandemic, it’s the fact that we can’t always meet in person but we can continue business. In this podcast, the speakers will discuss ways that eSignatures, remote online notaries and virtual rooms can eliminate the need to travel to an in person Notary. Questions the Co-Moderators will ask Speakers: ○ Could you please tell our listeners a little about yourselves? Aaron, let's start with you. ○ If you both could briefly chime in as to what e-signatures are and what you can accomplish with them, that would be a great place to start. ○ Can you explain for our listeners, how Notaries worked pre-pandemic? ○ With the ongoing digital transformation, eSignatures became very popular in the last 2 years. Ep 326Data, Data, Data...Where Do You Start?

Everyone is talking about data analytics and the evolving role of KM in conducting analytics. In this podcast, we will discuss where do you start, what tools are needed, what skill sets are required, how do you avoid stepping on the toes of others in the firm, such as the marketing or finance team and who may also be doing analysis of data? Questions Carolyn will ask Bobbi: 1. Traditionally KM has been about developing standards, templates and taxonomies to locate knowledge and expertise within the organization. But, now, we are starting to see the evolving “role of data” in providing actionable information as part of knowledge management. Bobbi, does this resonate with you? 2. DA Investments/Efforts/Initiatives: a. The increasing interest in data analytics – used to be fairly focused on financials and LPM, but now seeing analytics around diversity and retention, legal process improvement – is that consistent with what you are seeing in firms? b. Is the push to do more with data analytics coming from clients or from within firms themselves as they strive to find ways to improve efficiencies and profitability? 3. Building Capabilities (Hiring Trends/Roles) a. A few years ago there was a trend to hire data scientists and data analysts – is this trend continuing? b. How are you seeing that KM’s role is evolving to support data analytics capabilities? 4. Where to Start (Demonstrating Value/Low Hanging Fruit). A What is the low hanging fruit? B What would be the advice you’d give the person who wants to show the value of data analytics as applied in the “real world” of a practicing law firm Moderator: @Caroline Sweeney - Director of Knowledge Management & Innovation, Dorsey & Whitney Speaker: @Bobbi Basile - Managing Director, HBR Consulting LLC Recorded on 04-08-2022

Ep 322Change Management In a Virtual World

Change management is a critical part of any successful project or initiative. With so much change happening both in the legal industry and in the world as a whole, a good change management program has never been more important, especially if your firm expects to continue with a hybrid work model into the foreseeable future. In this podcast, we’ll talk to Sharon Ford, Change Management Manager at Perkins Coie, about how to think about change management in a hybrid workplace. Questions that Holly will ask Sharon: 1. Over the past two years, people have gone through a tremendous amount of change. Does the pace of change in the world at large impact how we talk about change internally to our stakeholders and end users? 2. What are some aspects of change management that become more important when communicating with a hybrid workforce? 3. What are some specific issues, or ‘gotchas’, that people involved in change management efforts may not realize will be problematic? 4. A successful change management effort will always tailor the message to the audience. Has the way you think about different audiences changed in a hybrid environment? 5.
