This often kicks off the “blame game” - pointing fingers and finding fault in others to deflect responsibility. This is natural, yet we need to push against it. - When the blame game begins, pause and look at yourself and ask, “What do I need to own in this, or see as something that I have control over?”
- Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle, and on one side write down what you can control, and on the other what you can’t control. This is an eye-opening exercise!
- Allow yourself to vent, but don’t stay there! The trick is to release it in a safe place and move on.
- Your power is that you decide what to do with the information, and what to do with the situation.
- Be aware of when you start using the word, “they” from a victimization mindset. Ask yourself, “who are ‘they?’”
