Robert received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town. He completed a year long residency in Pediatric Surgery at Ohio State University's Columbus Children's Hospital. He completed general surgery residency at the University of Toronto. He earned a PhD in Liver Carbohydrate Metabolism.
