On her popular nature vlog, Celine Murillo constantly identifies plants and animals by their scientific names aside from their common or local names. She stresses that having this knowledge is part of knowing your environment and can even save your life. Part of that essential awareness is why native tree species should be planted and not foreign species, such as the mahogany trees that are seen growing in many places, part of an ill-advised government reforestation program.
