The album came about as a collection of feelings and memories I had of the year to this point (2019). Having lost my Step-Father, Father and Uncle within months of each other my mood was rightly reflective, sometimes sombre. The music captures these and how these events were also changing my own outlook and relationship with others. Been A Long Time Without You – Even though I have relatively recently only lost these people, it feels like it has been so long since I have seen them. I wrote the lyrics by the beach, which is referenced in the track and time stamps the track to that exact period in time. Deep Sweet Dreams – Shortly after losing my Step-Father and Father I had dreams about them. The dreams were vivid and highly realistic and I woke up questioning reality. I had to talk myself through the parallel feelings I was getting. Tough Love – It’s up to you. The more you love, the more you have to lose, but it’s worth taking the risk for the pain. You can’t have one without the other. God Knows – Whether God exists or not is not the question. Changes I saw in some people caught me off guard and left me stunned. I was lied to, deceived and made to question relationships and reality. The truth exists out there in it’s purest form. People distort that reality to suit their circumstances. The notion of God really is a metaphor for a single truth existing. Heaven Wins – There is only one place that wins out of life and that is heaven. Let Me Hold You (‘Til The Pain Goes) – The sense of feeling useless when you watch people you love disappear in front of you. There is nothing you can do about that other than hold them and hope. Off My Mind – Grief can be so consuming (always on your mind) that you don’t recognise you are suffering and you can’t see through it. I called it ‘The Fog’. The only time I could think clearly was by making music. Unanswered – Questioning yourself can make you fall deeper into a darker place unless you find answers or learn to let those unanswered questions go. Another Day – This track has 2 meanings; one day everyone will have their last day, but others who remain will always be looking for one extra day. It also considers that if there is another world that exists then we all might meet again. Thought Of You – How beautiful life can be whilst you keep the images of goodness and light in your heart. Remember the good times. Those will serve you through life and death. Eyes Are Open Wide – The song is about understanding terminology used by doctors, where you have to read between the lines. The lack of information drives you to speculate. You must remain positive but you can’t help feeling all is not well. The ‘Calling My Name’ line refers to my Uncle becoming confused and disorientated in his final few days trying to pull medical equipment out of himself and calling out my father’s name. On My Way – I received a call at 05:45 on Sunday the 17th of March calling me to the hospital. The music represents the thoughts that were running through my mind and the levels of anxiety, not knowing what to expect when I arrived. Not Going Under – I wrote this as soon as I got the news about my Uncle. While it sounds a bit dark it is strangely positive. When writing these lyrics, I was focussed on not allowing myself to allow these constant stressful events to bring me down. However, I might have already been in over my head. Please Just Walk Away – In response to some things that were said to me, the track became my outlet instantly.

Manchester is in the house as DJ Cruze brings us another guest mix in the 7th part of our #ONEPHATDECADE celebrations. Back in 2005 when I was starting to investigate music podcasts, DJ Cruze was a huge inspiration for me. His mixing was impeccable and favoured music genres were full of energy. I used to look forward to Christmas as he regularly remixed a classic Christmas track for his listeners. Whilst I shied away from recording voiceovers for the podcast, DJ Cruze was no stranger to the mic which added his cheeky Northern personality to a top quality show. (His better half even recording the original idents for the One Phat DJ Podcast.) As one of the early DJs from the Manchester rave scene, Cruze is no stranger to house music either. He's honed his musical selection and production techniques through the years. In fact, he's got such a good ear for music, he can easily identify samples of new music from their original counterparts. I dare you to challenge him! DJ Cruze has been such a huge part of our podcast journey, we were mega-keen to get him to join in the #ONEPHATDECADE season so, after a long break from producing, we were absolutely honoured when he accepted. Time to turn your speakers up! One Phat DJ is back with you yet again with another collection of funky house tunes for you to getting dancing to, singing along to - whatever takes your fancy. This month is taking a bit more of a twisted vibe with some more clubby tracks than normal. Never fear - its still full of funk and should keep you going for the full hour and a quarter whether you're playing at a party or warming up for a night out. I've put this mix together for an upcoming party (it'll give me an hours break) so let me know what you're doing with your copy. Commence tracklistings... Teamsters - Feels Like Love (Vocal Extended) We kick off the mix with a tune with plenty of strings and a catchy sing-a-long chorus from the Danish boys also known as Morjac. With support from Positiva (who have a history for backing HUGE summer tracks), be on the look out for these guys over the coming months. Michael Gray - Borderline (Vocal Club Mix) Everywhere you turn at the moment you'll be hearing this belter from one half of the mighty Full Intention. There are plenty of remixes going around at the mo from the likes of Dennis Christopher but its the full vocal version that does it for me every time. Michael and Jon (Pearn) have a nack for making true house classics with really catchy hooks - this is no different. Good stuff lads! Gina G - Tonight's The Night (Extended Mix) Who'd have thought it...? Gina G in a One Phat DJ mix! I was surprised at how much I liked this track when I heard it. It's got a proper cheesy disco sound to it but that bassline is pure. Forget about that tragic 1995 Eurovision entry - our Gina seems to have gathered it together and put together a funky number that should get you going for your night out. Emelee - Head Over Heels (Georgie Porgie Remix) I was sent some promo remixes last week by this upcoming young artist from the US who seems to be gathering storm at the moment. There were some pretty funky remixes of the track but it was the regular OPDJ artist Georgie Porgie who funked it up the most and made it into the monthly mix. Keep an eye out for this one - she's got some potential and if she continues with the remixes, we could be seeing a lot more of lil' Emelee. Soul Corporation - Let's Get Together (Club Mix) Some more disco style funkiness with a bit of a clubby feel this time. Soul Corporation are Errol "Deekai" Lafleur & Mark "MacMark" Neuwenhuijzen, also known as Vinyl Freakz who have been on the remix circuit for quite a few years now. If they continue churning out tracks like this, they could be around for quite a while longer. Diddy - The Reason (Diddy's Megawoof Club Mix) I've not really got much information on this guy I'm afraid but all I know is its not that Diddy. This is one of those big disco tracks that has great build ups and your typical piano house sound. Plenty going on in this track and some great catchy lyrics gives this track that X-factor. If you're out there Diddy, get in contact and let us know more about yourself. David Panda - Stepping Out (Party With Angels) (Carl Ryden Club Mix) More male vocals from another awesome vocalist, this time from Denmark. David Panda has been creating funky house tracks for a while now but this track looks to throw him into the limelight with support from StoneBridge, Axwell and Seamus Haji thanks to a great synthy remix from Carl Ryden. Mario Held ft Sibylle - Everybody Dance Now (G-Club Remix) This is my wildcard track for the month. Some might think its a bit cheesy or not to the typical style I mix but I'm going with it anyway. This is a remix of the classic C&C Music Factory tune "Gonna Make You Sweat" with added bassline and scratching. Its a bit of dirty remix but should get you singing along (everyone should know the words by now!) David Guetta vs The Egg - Love Dont Let Me Go (Walking Away) (Joachim Garraud David Guetta's F___ Me I'm Famous Mix) You can't fail to miss this track at the moment. It started out as the backing track to an ice-skating Peugot Citroen but when David Guetta got his hands on it, he mixed in the vocals from his own "Love Don't Let Me Go" and a match was made in heaven. It almost hit the No 1 spot in the UK charts last week but there wasn't enough support. You know what to do - go... buy... it! Chris Lake vs Kings Of Tomorrow - Finally Changes (Nappa's Retouch Bootleg) Chris Lake's "Changes" has been a massive hit around the clubs for most of this year and there was no denying its anthem status. The only reason I haven't played it was because it wasn't really "funky" house but when I got sent this cheeky bootleg that mashed it up with Kings of Tomorrow's "Finally", I had to put it in the podcast. Again, another mashup that works a treat for me. I'm sure it'll get most of you singing along. Til West & DJ Delicious - Same Man (Original Mix) Another track that has been getting a fair bit of air play in the UK, this track seemed to fit into the podcast really well now I was venturing
