Morris Hardy, who just had his 79th birthday, is a Mississippi Delta coon hunter that is part of the annual group Steve joins each year at the White River National Wildlife Refuge the week after Thanksgiving. Steve isn’t sure that they keep Hardy around more for his culinary skills or his stories but the consensus is that hunting camp could never be the same without him. He’s an interesting guy.
Steve and Morris share an hour or more of coon hunting conversation that covers Morris’ beginnings, the friendships he’s made over the years and some of his favorite hounds.Morris is known at camp for his crossbred hounds but confesses that his hunting buddy “Mississippi” Randy Smith has convinced him to return to his roots with a new Black and Tan.
