In this the first of the Grand American Series of podcasts, Steve catches up with longtime friend, coon hunter, magazine columnist, and breeder of some of the most famous Treeing Walker coonhounds in history, Jim “Wildman” Meeks of Elkin, North Carolina.
Meeks is the originator of the Yadkin River strain which produced or formed the foundation for hounds like Yadkin River Jeff, Yadkin Tar Rattler, and Rock River Sackett to name a few.These hounds in turn produced some of the all-time most sought-after and prolific stud dogs in the history of the sport like Rock River Sackett, Jr., Nocturnal Nailor and the list goes on.
Meeks is a great story teller with a vivid memory of hounds and hunts of the past and present. This is one for the good ole boys that remember when the Wildman was one of the hardest hunters in the history of the sport with hounds that could back up the stories in spades.
