The recent decision to close fish farms in the Discovery Islands of British Columbia was long-awaited and controversial. Fisheries and Oceans Minister Joyce Murray talked to Hot Politics about the risk to juvenile salmon swimming past the fish farms to the ocean. Her conclusion, based on various scientific reports, resulted in taking a precautionary approach to the risk and refusing to renew fish farm licences.
