Why is that in the Bible?

It's a question we can often find ourselves asking while studying the Scriptures. Like when Abram successfully rescues his nephew Lot and other captives from the kings of the east, and after the victory a king named Melchizedek greets Abram on his way home and blesses him. This detail in the story seems unimportant, if it weren't for the fact that this King Melchizedek is mentioned two more times in the Bible: first in Psalms and then in the New Testament.

This week we pause our study of Abram in Genesis and dig a little deeper to see who this King Melchizedek is and why his story is important enough to be referenced again in the first century writings of the New Testament. We'll see how the priesthood of this king compares to the system of the priests and Levites of the Old Testament law and how this king priest's blessing of Abram corresponds to the New Testament ministry of Jesus Christ.
