Ep 3426Adopt a Horse Month for May 7th, 2024 by The American Horse Council - Horses in the Morning
May is Adopt a Horse Month, and according to the Equine Welfare Data Collective, there can be anywhere up to 40,000 horses waiting for adoption in the United States each year. From off-track Thoroughbreds to retired broodmares or even donkeys or ponies looking for a new pasture, it seems like you can find an adoptable horse, pony, or donkey to fit whatever your needs somewhere in the United States. Megan and Julie talk with Kelsey Buckley and Andrea Manley with the United Horse Coalition to highlight the work these two groups are doing to highlight equine rescues and sanctuaries across the country and how prospective horse owners can prepare themselves for adopting a horse, pony, or donkey. In addition, Julie interviews Melissa Kitchen, President of the Equine Network Foundation, about their mission and focus, as well as their A Home for Every Horse initiative. In this month’s Legislative Update, Julie updates listeners on the Farm Bill and shares some of the enticing topics that will be discussed at the Annual American Horse Council Conference and National Issues Forum, which will be held June 9-11 in Washington, D.C.HORSES IN THE MORNING Episode 3426 – Show Notes and Links:Your Hosts: Julie Broadway (President) and Megan Arszman of the American Horse CouncilSponsored by: EquiFit Guests: Kelsey Buckley with the Equine Welfare Data Collective, Andrea Manley with the United Horse Coalition and Melissa Kitchen with EN FoundationEquine Welfare Data CollectiveUnited Horse CoalitionA Home For Every HorseFollow Horse Radio Network on X (former Twitter) or follow Horses In The Morning on FacebookFollow the American Horses Council on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter)

Ep 3421Remembering Gloria Austin for April 30, 2024
We wanted to do an episode remembering Gloria Austin. We thought what better way than to share her story in her own words. This was recorded 10 years ago for the Equestrian Legends podcast. In the world of carriage driving and carriage collecting and in the world of horses, Gloria Austin is considered one of its “Grande Dames”. She rose to that distinction by hard work, dedication and a vision of that has helped better the world's understanding of the horse. She is one of very few women to have driven the number of coaches, four-in-hands and vehicles she has in countries all over the world. She is also one of the most knowledgeable scholars on the history of horses and horse drawn vehicles in the world.
