Show Notes

God is relentless in His pursuit of us. In this sermon, Clay Burgess teaches us that in His grace, He will sometimes send storms, to show us who we really are, and how much we desperately need Him.

Sometimes, we say no to God because we’re afraid, it’s not convenient, or we just don’t agree with God. In this series, we’ll discuss how this affects our lives and how we should respond.

Message notes:

When we encounter storms in life, God responds and reveals Himself to us.

Jonah encounters a storm when he runs away from God.

You may run from God, but you can never outrun God.

When God is working through a storm, there are lessons to learn:

 1. Storms Humble Us.

Pride isn’t always loud and obnoxious. Often it is quiet resistance.

Once we move the focus off us and onto others, we display great humility.

 2. Storms Expose Us.

 3. Storms Prepare and Place Us.

Before God can do a work through us, He must do a work in us.

The God who sends is the God who saves.

“Everything is necessary that He sends, nothing can be necessary that He

withholds.” - John Newton, Amazing Grace

Jonah 1:17 Saying ‘no’ to God has consequences, but God is always working for our good.

Psalm 138:7 God is with us all the way.
