Skeeter mentions why eucaluptus would make for a terrible wooden spoon (taste). Skeeter talks about serviceberry (I have a hand carved serviceberry spoon).
Skeeter talks a litle about cottonwood and yew.
My later research shows that maple might be the best, followed closely by apple.
