051. 3 Tips For Finding More Time & Increasing Your Capacity For Your Homesteading Responsibilities
These tips may seem counterintuitive because they actually take time to do but instead of being time-sucking activities they can become productivity hacks you can't live without. Often times we get into ruts where we think we are doing all of the necessary things to be productive but what's really happening is we are building up stress because what we feel is overwhelming instead of productivity no matter how much we try to make ourselves believe it. Even though it may sometimes seem like the homesteading life is immune to stress and overwhelm, it is not. There may be times in our journey we will have to step back and decide where our time is best spent. There are ways to find more time and increase your capacity for more responsibility and I'm going to share with you 3 tips to help you find it. 048. Why Do YOU Want To Homestead?
Why do you want to homestead? It may seem like a simple question to answer but I think diving a little bit deeper into your reasons for homesteading will make your journey much more enjoyable and purposeful. I think right now it's really easy to get caught up in romanticism. Social media, movies and tv shows can make us believe the lifestyles we pursue will be 90% romantic and 10% heartache but the truth is, there will be more than 10% heartache and for some people it's much more than 10% By choosing to have a strong reason for pursuing this lifestyle, not getting caught up in the romanticism and understanding difficult times don't necessarily have to me bad times we can get the most out of our homesteading experience. We can choose to grow and become people who make positive impacts in our communities. Today I'm talking you through your homesteading why to make sure your journey is laid on a solid foundation. I'm happy to share that during the month of June the Workshop for Beginner Homesteaders & Dreamers is on sale! The Workshop is a 1 hour and 40 minute video of me walking you through most of the Homesteading for Beginners workbook which is also included in the workshop price. I'm giving my listeners over 20% off of the already low regular price. Just visit healthyhomesteading.com/workshop and use code "PODCAST" to get the discount. Ep 44044. Three Tips for Growing Food in a Small Space
Many people don't realize how much growing space they have until they start growing food. Here are some tips for you if you want to start growing food in your backyard. Find food already growing on your property. Maybe you have a fruit tree or berry bushes already on your property. Use fences or build trellises to grow food vertically. Many plants prefer vining up. This frees up tons of space. Don't get hung up on perfection but do make your garden a place to relax and enjoy. The more you want to hang out in the garden the better. Upkeep will be easier and your mental health will improve. Thank you for listening to the podcast. I read all of the emails, DMs, and reviews and I appreciate the conversation. Ep 39039. Raising Quail on the Small Scale Homestead Part 2
In 2020 when the world was shutting down it was our first year on this homestead in Georgia. I was starting to feel very lonely because all of my homesteading friends were back in California. That's when I found a new startup app called Clubhouse. I was in a new state, a new home, and far away from my homesteading friends. It was a really difficult time for me and then I found the social audio app where there were all these people talking about gardening, raising livestock, fermenting food, and all of the things I loved to talk about. I found my online homesteading community and I still have good relationships with many of the people I met back in 2020. My guest today is Jasmine Bass and we met on Clubhouse. While we have not been as active on Clubhouse anymore, I have fond memories of the rooms we used to host together and all of the conversations we had. Ep 35035. Parenting on the Homestead: How to Not Lose Your Passions & Interests
If you are a parent of children, especially young children you may have experienced how difficult it is to find a balance between having your interests and hobbies and raising kids with their interests and hobbies. Sometimes it may feel like you're losing yourself to raise your amazing little humans. While this is a season of having to be more selfless we also need to understand that without your interests, your children will have a hard time discovering their passions without you modelling what being passionate looks like. Today I'm talking about why it's important to include your passions and interest in your homesteading journey and how that will benefit your children. If you are wondering what it's like to raise children on the homestead then this is the episode for you. Get the Homesteading for Beginners checklist here: https://www.healthyhomesteading.com/checklist/ While my husband and I were in the middle of raising our kids we sometimes wondered if we were doing the right thing. I think all parents have some doubts. The homesteading life is great but there are some downsides and sacrifices that had to be made in order to live the way we did. Now that I'm older and wiser and all of the children are adults I can see clearly the benefits of raising children in the homestead life. There were plenty of downsides to the lifestyle but the benefits far out weight them. Here are 5 things you need to know about homesteading with children: All of these things may not be true for every child or homestead but if your children are growing up the way mine did then this is a possible outcome. Your children will discover that being bored is not a bad thing. Your children will learn about life and death. Your children will gain an appreciation for nature. Your children will learn about hard work. Your children will know things their peers don't.

Ep 29029. 5 Homestead Income Mistakes to Avoid: Homestead Income Series
THE WORKSHOP IS OVER. GET ON MY EMAIL LIST TO BE NOTIFIED ABOUT FUTURE WORKSHOPS. https://view.flodesk.com/pages/64120c4d39e52a6f1129ec08 As homesteaders and homestead dreams, we have become aware that we need to take some control of our food supply. This is what we all have in common. We no longer want to just be dependent on grocery stores to provide food for us. I think the idea of multiple income streams really resonates with most people. It sounds wise to have multiple streams of income for security and financial freedom. But, what makes homesteaders different from the rest of the world is that we understand the need to be prepared. This is why I teach about the 3 Income Homestead Streams. Those are on-homestead income, off-homestead income and online income. These diverse income streams allow us to prepare for when we need to shift with current events. We all understand we don't know what the future holds and we need to be prepared for different scenarios. There will be times you may lean into one income stream more heavily than the others. This type of thought process also goes beyond just making money. It's also about being a part of a local community and being a person someone can count on for a product or service others need. I believe this is a more holistic way to think about income. Today I'm going to discuss with my friend Jason from the Plans and Provisions Podcast about 5 Homestead Income Mistakes to Avoid. Some of these mistakes my husband and I have made and we really don't want you to make the same mistakes. Ep 25025. Financially Comfortable Homesteader? What does it mean?
When we think of homesteaders, we don't generally picture monetary wealth. Most of us are choosing a lifestyle of simplicity but I don't think anyone enjoys being strapped for money. While most homesteaders can agree the lifestyle is worth it regardless of the money, that doesn't mean we shouldn't pursue income streams that will allow us to be more financially sustainable. I see financial comfort as the ability to have a steady flow of income, coming from multiple sources, that allow you to have the wiggle room to enjoy your life without working yourself into the ground, being able to go on vacation and help people freely with your time and money. Listen to today's episode to learn ways you can discover what financial comfort means to you. Ep 22022. How To Start 3 Homestead Income Streams in 2023
One of the most useful things I did in 2022 was tapping into turtle tactics. What are turtle tactics, you ask? Turtle Tactics basically are setting your goals up to have the consistent, slow pace of a turtle. Or tortoise. We all know The Tortoise and The Hare story, right? The race between the tortoise and a hare. The hare seems the obvious winner because he's fast and a little cocky and the turtle is slow and consistent. The turtle wins the race because of his slow consistent pace. To me, this story is the perfect example for someone wanting to reach any goal but especially financial goals. Slow and steady wins the race. We can use these turtle tactics with all types of income streams. In episode 13 of the Homesteading for Beginners podcast I go into the 3 income streams you should have to set yourself up for longevity on the homestead. I encourage you to go back and listen to that episode. Three income streams allow for enough income diversity so that if something were to go wrong with one, you'd still have another to fall back on. These 3 income streams ideally should be related to homesteading. The reason is that growing your skill set while you are getting paid is like killing two birds with one stone. On- homestead Income Off-homestead Income Online Income I've spent years doing things the complicated way by learning most of what I know through trial and error and let me say, it sucked. It's so worth it to pay someone to teach you how to get where you want to be. You will cut out some much wasted time, heartache and loneliness. Starting a business can be a lonely experience. The good news is I can help get you started a lot faster and in a smarter way than I did. Having someone cheer you on and believe in your business venture can make all the difference, especially if you choose to take the slow and steady turtle approach I mentioned in this episode. Ep 21021. Homesteading Couples: How To Get Your Spouse On Board Part 2
What do you do when your spouse or partner is not on board with your homesteading dreams? This is something I hear people struggling with all the time. One spouse is all into the idea of homesteading and the other has big reservations or is very against the idea. Recently, I coach a member of the Homesteading for Beginners community through this very topic. I decided a podcast episode on this topic would be good for those dealing with the same thing. I didn't poll any of my audience but I imagine some of the objections from the spouse that is not into the idea of homesteading might be concerned with: the cost of starting a homestead giving up modern convenience of fitting in as a homesteader. their kids will be deprived and sheltered family and friends will judge their lifestyle. added work to their already busy life. If any of these objections resonate with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts. You can send me a direct message on Instagram. If I didn't list an objection send me that as well.
