Homestead Shop Talk

In this episode Al talks about his next Homestead project after the loss of his bull. He trenched waterlines, but things were not as easy as it was when Jason put in his. He also shares about his new Idaho pasture piglets. Ben shares that they are in full berry season on his property. He also got advice from our viewers on an organic squash bug killer. Ben’s two sows Farrowed. He is going to have to do a lot of castrating. Ben’s pressure tank on his well and parts of his mini splits went out. Jason’s week starts off with sheep drama. He is discouraged with sheep netting. He also talks about his dead bug in the wells system. The guys question if technology is really beneficial for the long term health the farm animals. Jason is thinking about putting pigs in a permanent space for the winter to make compost. In this episode Jason makes the guys guess what worst job on the Homestead he just did today. He shares about mic problems while filming. Jason orders 2,000 pounds of broiler feed and 1,000 pounds of turkey feed. He talks about how well his Napa cabbage is growing and they have eaten too much. Even the pigs are tired of it. He plans to put drip tape in the high tunnel. Al shares what he’s got planted in his garden and his frost advisory. His pond is stocked with trout. He talks about how he gets his fish and he fishes in his pond. He’s looking for a good recipe for smoked fish. Also Al shares some devastating news about one of his cows. Ben talks about his dream wood chipper. He loves it. He and the boys got the rest of the garden in. They also dug up their potatoes in the greenhouse. He says they are buttery and velvety. This episode the guys share about their week. Ben says he has food growing everywhere. He’s even growing food for his food. Ben can hear his pigs farting. He talks about the worst thunderstorm to hit his Homestead. He bought a wood chipper that he’s excited about. Ben and his sons go to an airsoft field. He and his family smoked a suckling pig all day on memorial day. Al talks about his Hydroseeder, he worked out some of the kinks, and he is excited about it. It has already paid for itself. He wants to mix up more things with it and try biochar and compost. Al’s wood boiler makes charcoal. Al and his wife spent a lot of time this week trying to figure out how to artificial inseminate their cow. Al wants to learn how to AI. Jason shares about how he accidentally deleted some footage to make a video. He tried some of the lamb meat that he harvested. They are busy making all things with the huge cabbage harvest. Jason been working on a special video but not for YouTube. Jason looks for drip tape at stores, but couldn’t find any. Today in the shop the guys talk about their week! The guys talk about front yards and what the neighbors think? Ben and his boys cut hay with a scythe and changing netting for pigs in the woods. Jason, takes his yearly nap and also overcomes fear of electrical work. Jason also asks Al a concrete question. Jason has stuck up sheep. Al, received his chicks, cows on pasture.
