With us for this episode are Mike and Barbara Gammage, the creative minds behind the publishing company “Mike Writes for Kids.” In addition to publishing books for children, they offer workshops, story-time events, and consultation. Their organization’s mission focuses on highlighting vital, but traditionally unheralded segments of professional life. Emphasizing the importance of involving representation for African-American children in this regard, the organization has won several awards for its publications and service. Their first book, “The Dreamlighters Go To Space,” which we’ll be discussing today, has been described as an “African-American version of the Magic School Bus.”
