In 1649, an English act of parliament had a significant impact on the spread of the gospel in New England along with the execution of King Charles I in 1649, which led to the establishment of the Commonwealth of England, that Puritan Oliver Cromwell ruled as Lord Protector from 1653 until his death in 1658.
