HGB BonusCast 5
In this fifth BonusCast from History Goes Bump, you will hear a bit about the phenomenon that is the podcast Lore, which is currently taking iTunes by storm, and you will also hear a clip from Diane's co-hosting adventure on The 9th Story Podcast - you know the clip where the haunted music box makes an appearance or rather doesn't, but Diane and Dan are freaked, so something happened! Also, there are some more outtakes from the show, particularly featuring Denise's non-existent giggling - uh huh - and our guest co-host Freya even makes it into the outtakes with both some tongue tied issues and a little behind the scenes peek - or listen - to the pre-show talk. Enjoy! To get the full 9th Story Podcast episode on the dark side of fairytales: http://www.9thstory.com/316/ Check out the website: http://historygoesbump.com

Ep 50Ep. 50 - The Legend of the Devil's Footprints
We love covering urban legends and we have another one for this episode. Urban legends can be as recent as the Charlie, Charlie Game that went viral on the internet a couple of weeks ago or they can reach back into the past. The legend surrounding the Devil's Footprints dates back to 1855. The Devil's Footprints is an unexplained mystery that is one of the strangest stories we have ever heard. The only theory that has really survived the test of time is that the Devil paid a visit to Devon, England and made his way bouncing around roofs and yards and such. After hearing the details, perhaps you will come up with your own theory. Was it the Devil? Did aliens pay a visit? Could these be the tracks of a ghost? The Moment in Oddity features the disappearing island of Lomea and This Day in History features the Stars and Stripes becoming America's official flag. Come with us back to school as we explore the halls and classrooms of Pocatello High School. The Moment in Oddity features Dead Letters and This Day in History features the suicide of Nero. Ep 46Ep. 46 - Norwich State Hospital
Norwich State Hospital in Connecticut served as a home and place of treatment for the mentally ill for a hundred years. As is the case with many old insane asylums, treatment methods were arcane and in some cases torturous. Mental illness was not understood and people were mistreated years ago. Places that harbor pain and suffering seem to capture the energy for all eternity and that energy tends to lead to supernatural activity. Is it because spirits become trapped? Are evil beings attracted to the painful emotions and so they come and take up residence? Or is the bad energy trapped within the walls of the building itself? Today, we talk about the history and hauntings of the Norwich State Hospital for the Insane. The Moment in Oddity features Bog Bodies and This Day in History features the assassination of France's King Henri IV. Check out the website: http://historygoesbump.com Check out the show notes here: http://historygoesbump.blogspot.com/2015/05/hgb-podcast-ep-46-norwich-state-hospital.html

Ep 43Ep. 43 - Valley of the Kings
Egypt is a land of ancient treasures and wonders. Pharaohs were honored in death with immense public monuments that we know as pyramids. The Old Kingdom of Egypt built monuments in Giza and the Nile Delta. The New Kingdom pharaohs of Egypt wanted to be buried closer to their dynastic roots and they had their crypts built in the hills of Luxor. This area became known as the Valley of the Kings. The Valley of the Kings would end up housing the remains of at least sixty Egyptian nobles. Pharaohs from King Tut to Ramses II have tombs here. There are more than tombs here though. There are tales of curses and hauntings in the Valley of the Kings. How does Downton Abbey figure into this? Moment in Oddity features the Mothman and This Day in History features the first run of the Electromote. Ep 42Ep. 42 - Leap Castle
Leap Castle in Ireland had it's beginnings in blood and death and is one of the longest continually inhabited castles in the world. Gothic windows and ivy covered towers give the castle a truly stereotypical look. The history contained within the castles walls is fascinating and covers centuries of war and fires. The best way to describe the history is as a murder soap opera. In more recent times, it has been under extensive restoration. Castles and rich histories go hand in hand with hauntings and Leap Castle has many stories of the supernatural and is considered the most haunted castle in the world. The most well known haunting is about the Elemental that apparently resides at the castle. Come along with us to Ireland to find out more about this interesting location. Ep 40Ep. 40 - Australia's Port Arthur
Today's episode features a special guest co-host! Seventeen year old Welsh/Australian Freya joins us to help share the history and hauntings, including her own experience! Port Arthur is part of a World Heritage site Tfeaturing former Australian jail sites and it is an open air museum. Australia has a harsh history since it was established as a place for Britain to send her convicts. Many of the prisoners from Ireland's Kilmainham Gaol were sent to Australia. Port Arthur's prison became the stop for Britain's worst convicts. Such a harsh place would be a good breeding ground for things that go bump in the night just from its penal history alone. But this area has an even more tragic story. It was the site of a massacre in 1996. No wonder Port Arthur is considered to be one of the most haunted locations in all the world. Moment in Oddity features the blue people of Kentucky and This Day in History features the first run of the Pony Express. HGB BonusCast 3 - Ghosts and the Bible
On this BonusCast Diane and Denise are unedited and unscripted as they discuss the Biblical view of ghosts. They examine the general belief in the Church about ghosts, which is way oversimplified and not Biblical and then they look at a couple of ghost examples in the Bible. This broadcast will not be for everybody, but if you do listen, we hope we give you some things to think about and consider. The Bible is one of the most supernatural books and Christianity does not have to be boring or what we see on television: Your best life now and God the big piggy bank in the sky. See if you come to the same conclusions that we do at History Goes Bump. We'd love to hear our listeners thoughts on the topic! Chillingham Castle is a castle that was built in the 12th century and resides in Northumberland, England in a village named Chillingham from which it takes its name. The Castle sits near the border between Scotland and England and so it was often under attack. Much of the Castle as it is seen today is the way it was originally built with a few additions. It is reportedly one of the more haunted locations in Europe. Join Denise and Diane as they share the history, tortures and hauntings of this magnificent castle! Moment in Oddity features Coral Castle in Florida and This Day in History commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans.
