On the Trail with Canada Joe (Part II)

Thru hiker Joe Duncan makes the long trek from northern Ontario, Canada, to sit down with Doc in the Hiker Trash Radio. Settle in and buckle up as Canada Joe tells Doc about his time on the PCT (border to border), the AT (half), and the CDT (four days). Listen closely and you'll hear this former Mountie and detective talk about big animal encounters, recovering from PTSD, scaring yourself to sleep, and knowing when to say no. Epic. (This is Part II. Be sure to listen to Part I.)

Show Notes

In this episode, Doc talks to Joe Duncan, also known as Canada Joe, about his background as a detective and how he sought healing in nature by hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Joe shares his experiences convincing his wife, navigating the challenging PCT terrain, encountering wildlife, and overcoming fears. We also dive into his time hiking with his son on the Appalachian Trail and his short-lived but intense journey on the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) that included a close encounter with a charging grizzly. Joe reflects on the importance of listening to one's body, staying prepared, and not underestimating the wilderness.
