Show Notes

Jesus returns to the healed man after the man is kicked out of the synagogue. Although the man's physical sight has been restored, his healing is not yet complete -- Jesus intends to offer him spiritual vision as well. The man's eyes are opened to see Jesus for who he is, and he worships him. Indeed, Jesus adds that his entire mission revolves around exposing our blindness and restoring our ability to see God, one another, and ourselves the way God sees!

For Reflection:

Jesus said that he came "to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind" (v39).

- Physical blindness is difficult to deny but spiritual blindness is centered around denial in the Pharisees in this passage. Why do you think it is so difficult for the Pharisees to see and admit their own blindness?

- Have you ever experienced this kind of blindness? Were you ever wrong in a way that you (at least initially) refused to admit? What helped you to see your blindness? Who helped you, and how?
