Show Notes

Jesus continues to warn his disciples that bad times are coming. This warning is not meant to help them avoid the danger -- that would be impossible. Instead, they might remember that God is in control even in the darkest times. In fact, it is better that Jesus should leave because it is the only way for us to receive God's Spirit. That promise sounds very important, but what does it truly mean?

For Reflection:

Jesus gives his disciples a warning and a promise, and both are intended to help them (and us) through the darkest of times.

- Why do you imagine that Jesus gives a warning if that warning cannot help us to avoid the danger? Why do you think Jesus warns us about difficult times ahead?

- Jesus said that it is better for us that he leaves because only then can we receive the Advocate, the Spirit. If someone were to ask you to explain how we are better off in Jesus' absence, how might you answer?
