Segment 3, November 30th, 2024

The SouthPark Municipal District was created by the City of Charlotte in 2022.  The goal was to help manage & maintain the successful shopping, business, restaurant, residential, & entertainment district within the city.  This is also the home of Carolina Outdoor sponsor, Jesse Brown’s.  Host Bill Bartee recently spoke with President/CEO Adam Rhew of SouthPark Community Partners about the area, the changes, & transportation, trails, & green space in the area.

Show Highlights:

  • SouthPark is important to the regional economy & a beautiful place to live.
  • SouthPark began in 1970 with the building of the Southpark Mall.  It is now owned by Simon Properties.
  • The Loop is a 3-mile walking and biking path to help connect the area together, including being able to connect to Greenways outside of the SouthPark District.
  • The area began as a rural area, became suburban, & is now urbanizing.  Management is important to help keep the great qualities of this area intact.
  • The Free Ride App is available here: the Southpark Skipper
  • Symphony Park is the largest green space in the district.  It hosts SouthPark after Five, Pops in the Park, & several other entertainment opportunities to be together as a community.

Things You’ll Learn by Listening:
SouthPark is one of the largest business & shopping districts between Washington, DC & Atlanta, GA, making it an important destination for tens of thousands.

The Carolina Outdoors is powered by the Charlotte fly shop, Jesse Brown’s.  Get a 7 weight fly rod & take on a smallmouth bass in 2025 instead of that 3-weight rod for trout.
