Episode 28: Why I Transitioned from Advising to Graduate Admissions — And What I Learned Along the Way

Jessica Cox started her career in higher education working in advising at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. Manhattanville College’s advising office is anything but typical — it operates more like a customer success department than it does a customer service department, which means that Jessica was intimately involved in ensuring that students AND alumni were thriving during the program and after graduation. After almost three years, Jessica decided to take what she’d learned while accompanying graduate education students through their respective programs and apply it on the front lines – in the office of graduate admissions and recruitment. On this week’s episode, Zach Busekrus sits down with Jessica to discuss: - Why Jessica left advising for admissions - How enrollment marketers working in graduate admissions can do a better job at reducing friction during the handoff between admissions and advising - How her advising experience enabled Jessica to be a better enrollment marketing and “sales” professional
