When we start out as parents, we all have priorities - they're the things we think are most important for our child to have as they become adults... success, well-roundedness, financial independence, a strong will, education, or culture.
None of these qualities are inherently bad. They are all often marks of having had a "good life." Yet giving your child a "good life" cannot be your goal in raising a child. There are much higher, and more important standards we need to aim for!
