03 Off the grid for preparedness (Legacy show)
bonusLiving Off the Grid in the City Radio Show. It is highly inconvenient and even dangerous to only depend on the utility grid. Not having alternative means to power your life is risky, and it is conducive to a subservient or even slavish relationship with companies and the government. Also, fossil energy resources have been sources on conflicts and war throughout the world. Here I discuss all these topics, briefly, as reasons to get off the grid. 02 Ills of the grid (Legacy show)
bonusLiving Off the Grid in the City Radio Show. Legacy episode. Here I expand on some the health, safety, and environmental disadvantages of remaining in the grid. I explain how the fossil fuel industry has exposed many thousands of workers to hazards that cause injury, illnesses, and death. Over 100,000 workers have died directly as a result. Let's begin to change this. Hector Vladimir 2015© Living Off the Grid in the City Radio Show. 01 New series introduction (Legacy show)
bonusLiving Off the Grid in the City Radio Show. This is my legacy show introduced in the summer of 2015, and it has been remade. This first episode introduces what I describe as The Grid. Which is the combination of electrical power, water services, and phone and entertainment services; that most adults pay for. I believe these paid services are abusively costly and have kept most of us under servitude and economic bondage. Especially the electric company. I believe that living off the grid using alternative energies may free us in a way that we can only dream of. And here, I begin to describe what the grid is, its disadvantages, and how to begin getting off it. This shows’ content was recorded in 2015 and has been remastered, and it applies to today (2023) in its entirety, needing only few updates. The updates required will appear in the notes section of the content. S1 Ep 1515 Occupational hazards of the fossil fuel industry (updated) - part 2
Living Off the Grid in the City Podcast 15. The oil and gas industry generates large revenues worldwide and employs millions of people. However, despite being a profitable sector, it is also extremely dangerous for workers exposed to harmful environments and hazardous products. This episode continues to list the hazards of the oil and gas industry, and describes the health and ergonomic hazards of the coal industry. Here I share some personal experiences about this subject.

S1 Ep 1414 Occupational hazards of the fossil fuel industry - part 1
Living Off the Grid in the City Podcast 14. The oil and gas industry generates large revenues worldwide and employs millions of people. However, despite being a profitable sector, it is also extremely dangerous for workers exposed to harmful environments and hazardous products. It is estimated that more than 100,000 people have died since 1970 due to working in this industry and thousands of workers suffer injuries and illnesses each year. In the United States, between 2013 and 2017, 489 worker deaths were recorded in this industry. The major hazards associated with this industry include a wide range of tasks, equipment, products and hazardous environments in which workers are exposed.

To the stars! - Bonus early release
Living Off the Grid in the City Podcast. Early release podcast. Space exploration is an extreme example of living off the grid, as it involves completely separating yourself from Earth. However, even in space exploration, terrestrial systems and products are needed. As exploration becomes longer and farther from Earth, it requires carrying pieces of Earth with us. For example, on a nearby space station, ground supplies such as water, food, and air must be brought. If we settle on the Moon or Mars, we will also need to bring terrestrial plants, animals, and water, and maintain terrestrial systems during our stay there. Space agencies are working on the challenges of inhabiting other planets, which include problems such as water use and recycling, food storage and use, energy production and use, communication, and waste management. These problems are similar to the challenges faced by people living off the grid on Earth.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 1313 Who speaks for the animals?
Podcast 13. Humans have been pillaging the world's wildlands and destroying wildlife in the process. And, this has been industrialized and rapidly increasing for over 2 centuries now. The harm we are doing to the animals of earth is on a mass extinction scale. Animal life is among the direst reasons to get off the grid. Deforestation is a major problem, and the indiscriminate taking of animal habitats must stop.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 1212 Decarbonization and depollution - part 2
Podcast 12. Water, noise, and light pollution are significant health and environmental problems. These can be alleviated by living off the grid methods. Water has been polluted by major catastrophes and during every day vehicle use. Our cities and homes are noise and stressful places. And, our cities and homes are replete with intense and sleep depriving lights. The off grid lifestyle can help with these problems, here's how.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 1111 Decarbonization and depollution - part 1
Podcast 11. Decarbonization and depollution are top reasons to be off the grid. Clearly, the environment needs help, and decarbonizing the world’s economy has been named as a primary and powerful method to contribute to the solution to climate change. Decarbonizing is to shed the use and need for any fossil fuel technology or industry. It is the boycott of things and services that depend on fossil fuels. And it is the divestment in fossil fuel industry and commerce. Decarbonization is necessary for depolluting our environment. There are many types of pollution: air-, ground-, and water-pollution. Going off the grid helps slow-down, stop, and reverse pollution. By ceasing, or at least diminishing, your demand on the polluting sectors of the water-, food-, energy-, and communications-grid; you firmly contribute to cut back on pollution.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 1010 The environment and the climate
Podcast 10. Part 2. Rationales. The environment is absolutely the first thing we must consider when attempting to live off the grid. It should be our grand price and our instigating force for all the efforts of living off the grid. It is no less than the very thing that may save our own behind, and those of our future generations. It is nothing less than the saving of our planet. Climate change is beyond reproach, so I will not bother with anyone here that is not on board with the current science and facts. Here, I describe some statistics and arguments that make the climate our primary motive for living off the grid. And, I introduce how living off the grid actually helps the environment.Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 909 What sets this content "apart"?
Podcast 9. This off the grid content, and experiences here shared, are those from a poor person, and intended for all, but especially for the poor. It recognizes the monetary, social, and political challenges of majority of those living within the grid, and how hard it can be getting out of it. I am part of the majority in the world, a working-poor, in debt, and struggling to emerge from the grid with what I've got to work-with. I am not a wealthy "homesteader" who just bought a big plot of land and is building a cabin with bulldozers and a construction crew. Nor am I a cross-country recreational vehicle owner that is bragging about my ability to "buy my way out of the grid". Here, I advocate for those of limited budget, of low resources, and of low income. Here, I do with less, and show how it's possible to get out of debt, stop paying too much, and live free from subjugation.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 808 Some disclaimers
Podcast 8. Off grid living may require special skills and knowledge, and installing, fabricating, and using gas or electrical equipment. I recommend gaining such knowledge, skill, or licenses when required. Ensure you do especially when working with potentially hazardous energy. I am off the grid, but for now, only partially. This book is part of my road map for my off-grid goals. Which include being off the electric grid completely, and partially off the water, food, and communications grid.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 707 Some statistical terms and book assumptions
Podcast 7. Some statistical terms are defined, and I bring up some possible assumptions that the reader or listener will encounter during this book or podcast. Here, I will try to include people of various backgrounds and current life conditions; but it I cannot be all inclusive all the time. In most cases, I assume the reader to live in reasonable social, political, and economic freedom.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 505 What living off the grid in the city "is not" (Includes bonus content)
Podcast 5. Living off the grid is not anarchy, or abolition of money. It is not living isolated or totally disconnected from all. It is not. Bonus: The middle people are the agents of the grid. They are the protectors of the status quo and those that attempt to thwart efforts to improve things.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 404 What is living off the grid "In the City"?
Podcast 4. Most of us live in cities and towns. And, these places are the ones most polluted. So, the living off grid lifestyle can make a great impact in the city. Disconnecting to use less resources and using renewables to replace the grid. It will be challenging, as the middle-people of the city are vicious.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 303 What is "Living Off the Grid"?
Podcast 3. Living off the grid is simply living as free as you want to live. Free of economic subjugation, over-taxation, manipulation, and control from entities and individuals. It may be; living without dependence to others that don’t share your well-being or best-interests. It is, having more choice! Living off the grid, may be, living without unwanted ties and commitments to others, and not living under any requirement to enter into dependence and commitment to others. In the technical sense; living off the grid is: living, by choice, without connections to an electric power provider; water services provider; communications provider; food provider; or fossil fuel provider. It is living free of unwanted external providers of goods and services; by commitment or contract, which often occur under the threat of economic and physical punishment. Later, I will explain how these providers attempt to punish you when you deny, or can’t pay for, their services. More importantly; living off the grid is being self-sustained, in the goods and services for which you are off the grid. Simply put, living off the grid is having the right and the freedom to get goods and services only when you need them, want them, and freely inquire for them. As we often lack the control of how much services we receive. Living off the grid can be partial or extensive; with freedom and choice as to how much and how often you use goods and services. And, if you choose others to provide goods and services to you. So, living off the grid is about maintaining control over ‘who’ and ‘how much. Additionally, living off the grid is a powerful way to contribute to planetary decarbonization. Decarbonization is the move-away from fossil fuels to prevent further damage to the environment and prevent its expected dire effects. As I will show, the environment should be the top reason to move off the grid. When you live off the grid, you phase out your use of utility electricity, or any fossil-fuel-driven technologies, simply because they contribute to environmental pollution, and because they are generally more costly. When living off the grid; you may provide in part or in whole: your own water, food, and electricity, and means of communications. All these goods and services could and should be free of payments, and free of commitments to any company or government. So, I believe living off the grid can bring true freedom and democracy to your home, place of work, and community; through self-sustainability and greater power as an individual. Lastly, it should never be hidden that, in our grid-connected society, living off the grid is difficult. It is often frowned-upon, looked at with contempt, and even treated with hostility. It will require extraordinary determination, high skill, consistent good-decision-making, and lots of work. Yet, the fulfillment will be hard to quantify. Living off the grid is, by no means, a necessarily lone endeavor. It can definitely flourish in groups; perhaps even in larger communities such as towns and cities. living off the grid requires much study of science and technology; the smart management of resources; and increased knowledge and appreciation of your environment.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/

S1 Ep 202 What is "The Grid"?
Podcast 2. As I refer to it in this podcast, the grid includes the collection of utility services and public goods that most citizens receive in their home when they pay their bills on time. Water, electricity, and telecommunications services. The grid also includes food, and fuels that people buy for daily use. Here I argue that the grid is not necessary, but it has become virtually mandatory. For many reasons, the grid is harmful, especially because its high cost.Hector Vladimir 2023©Youtube channels: @hbcsolarpvtech @HBCSolarPVTechByronLiving Off the Grid in the City youtube podcast playlist (English):https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWqApEqGtc5Wpx9yCm5Z2eop7fURphqMPatreon page: www.patreon.com/hectorvladimirSubstack page: https://hectorvladimir.substack.com/
