A Series Highlighting Members of the COVIDLATINO Project: Tanya Jeanette Alderete, Medical Student

HealthCare UnTold continues its series highlighting members of the COVIDLATINO project. Today's guest is Tanya Jeanette Alderete. Tanya, currently a medical student at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine, is completing her third-year medical rotations in Phoenix, Arizona where she was born and raised. During the height of the COVID pandemic, Ms. Alderete conducted research at the St. Vincent de Paul Virginia G. Piper Medical & Dental (SVdP) Clinic, a free clinic in downtown Phoenix that historically has treated a population that is predominantly undocumented immigrants. The SVdP clinic partnered with CVS and the National Association of Free Clinics to provide free rapid COVID tests to underserved individuals. Tanya joined the social media team of the COVID Latino Project with the goal of helping debunk COVID myths among the Latinx community and to disseminate accurate information regarding the COVID virus and the COVID vaccines. Ms. Alderete led the relaunch campaign of the COVID Latino Project to ensure that all the content created was shared in an effective manner. HealthCare UnTold again recognizes the COVIDLATINO project and its volunteers like Tanya who have made such a difference to the Latino Community during the Covid-19 pandemic by providing accurate information regarding the virus and vaccines.
