Show Notes
In 1829 this prison in Philadelphia opened its doors with a progressive sense of optimism about employing the most modern and humane version of prison reform. But in the Eastern State Penitentiary was the guards, not the prisoners who ultimately proved this wrong. What followed were punishments so tortuous and vile the evil behind them still lingers in the walls, waiting simply for their cells to be unlocked.
