Beneath the lawns of Cheesman Park and the winding paths of the Denver Botanic Gardens lies one of the darkest stories in Colorado history. In 1893, an undertaker’s greed turned a cemetery relocation into a scene of horror, a scandal known as “The Work of Ghouls.” Thousands of bodies were left behind, and for more than a century, ghostly encounters have echoed through the neighborhood. This is the true tale of the City of the Dead, and the restless souls still below Denver’s most beautiful park.
