UConn Womens Basketball Dominates Georgetown, Shatters Program Record: Azzi Fudd Scores 24, Team Forces 23 Turnovers
The UConn womens basketball team, ranked number one, secured an impressive 84-52 victory over Georgetown, extending their perfect record to 30-0 and 19-0 in Big East play. This win marked the programs most conference wins in a season and tied the sixth-longest winning streak in womens hoops history at 46 straight.
Coach Geno Auriemma criticized star Azzi Fudd for a slow defensive closeout, but Fudd responded with a three-pointer. Fudd had a standout performance, scoring 24 points on six made threes, adding four steals, four assists, and five rebounds. Sarah Strong, an All-American sophomore, notched her eighth double-double of the year with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Freshman Blanca Quinonez returned from a shoulder injury to score 10 points with four steals. The bench depth shone through in a 13-0 third-quarter spurt. UConns defense was dominant, forcing 23 turnovers for 26 points and limiting Georgetown to 32% shooting. The Huskies look unstoppable heading toward March Madness.
