Mexican National Sentenced for Cocaine Trafficking in New Haven
Martin Onofre-Mendez, a 50-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for trafficking cocaine in New Haven. He pleaded guilty in September and was arrested in October after a DEA investigation at a Grand Avenue restaurant. Six hundred grams of cocaine were seized, with 225 grams found on him and 480 grams in his storage hideout. His associate, an El Salvadoran national, pleaded guilty in November and awaits sentencing. After prison, Onofre-Mendez will face deportation to Mexico.
