55-year-old Ecuadorian man, Jose Raul Maita, faces federal charges in Connecticut for illegal reentry after two prior deportations. He was convicted of sexual abuse in 1998, failed to register as a sex offender, and was convicted of DUI and probation violation in 2001. He was deported in 2003, but returned illegally, leading to another DUI conviction and registration failure in 2006 and 2007. He was deported again in 2009, but was arrested in Connecticut in September 2025 for DUI, drugs, and driving without a license. He is now detained pending trial.
