Batcheller School in Winsted, Connecticut, is transforming from an elementary school to thirty-seven affordable apartments. The Winchester Housing Partnership, part of the Northwest Senior Housing Corporation, is leading the project. After housing rescued cats, the town chose this housing plan over a manufacturing proposal. With a three hundred ten thousand dollar federal grant and support from neighbors and town leaders, construction could start later this year, addressing the housing shortage in Winsted.
