Pump-Switching Scam on the Rise in Pennsylvania: Be Vigilant at the Gas Station
Gas prices are surging in Pennsylvania, and so are reports of a deceptive scam called pump-switching. Scammers approach drivers at the pump, offer to help fill up, and then tamper with the nozzle to keep extra gas flowing onto the victims card even after they drive away. This trick works because they dont fully replace the nozzle, letting the pump run up a big charge. Victims often tip the helpful stranger and leave, only to see the damage later on their statements. One driver, Mignon Adams, experienced this firsthand in February. Police advise drivers to handle their own pumps and watch closely to avoid falling victim to this scam.
