He won an oscar for producing the movie Precious and is currently in court fighting to not have to return $80 million he stole as part of a Ponzi scheme but what we're most interested in is his connection to the episodes we did on the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI). His father Bob Magness was on the board and a major shareholder in a BCCI subsidiary named Capcom Financial which was linked to Saudi Arabian intelligence and to at least $1.3 billion in assets stolen out of the main vehicle of BCCI. His father never was prosecuted never had to return the money he made and now some of that money belongs to Gary. Now Gary spends his Saudi intelligence money buying his daughter a pop music career. We live under the most efficient economic system possible. Here's a copy of the 1992 Kerry Committee report on Capcom Financial the first and last investigation the US government conducted into this: https://fas.org/irp/congress/1992_rpt/bcci/21capcom.htm

Thanks for reading this stickers are on the horizon, and we will be filming Andy licking the Wall street bull soon stay tuned. CORRECTION: The first version of this episode had Sean saying Asst. Secretary of State Victoria Nuland met directly with Dmytro Firtash to ensure the election of Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko. Though there was a meeting where Firtash got one of Poroshenko's main opponents in the race to drop out it was not true to say the Nuland met with him directly. We edited the episode to remove this claim. The Andrew Cockburn article mentioned is a good read on how the US role played out: https://harpers.org/blog/2015/08/undelivered-goods/

Episode 105: Eddie Lampert (Sears/K-Mart)
E"It wasn't only real estate that Lampert signed over to himself. In 2014, Sears sold Land's End, a clothing brand, to a consortium that was two-thirds controlled by ESL. Today, the brand has a rough market value of $314 million. In 2016, Sears sold Craftsman brand tools to Black & Decker for $900 million. The profits were used to pay off debt, including to Lampert. In 2017, Die Hard batteries were put up for sale. And this year, Lampert has made a $400 million bid for Kenmore appliances, the crown jewel of what remains at Sears, along with an $80 million bid for Sears Home Improvement stores. So the leadership of the Sears empire—Lampert—is gradually selling off bits and pieces of it, mostly to Lampert. The cash generated from those deals in large part serviced Sears's debt, the payments on which also went to Lampert. And now, having put Sears into bankruptcy, the top creditor—Lampert—stands to gain from the final fire sale." https://prospect.org/economy/sears-gutted-ceo/

EThis week we're joined by Brad from hedgeclippers.org to discuss billionaire "activist investor" Daniel S. Loeb. So Dan Loeb's attorneys if you're reading this: please just tell us where the kid is. For more information on Hedge Fund and Private Equity billionaires check out http://hedgeclippers.org/ The economist Jang-Sup Shin is actually a "he" not a "she" as Sean refers to them but here is his piece on how regulatory changes have made activist investors like Dan Loeb predatory value extractors. Episode 99: Saudi Arabia, the Mahfouz Family, and the September 11th Attacks
EThis week we look at the Mahfouz family, the billionaire family behind the first bank in Saudi Arabia, but also we look at the Saudi role in the September 11th attack in general. The Mahfouz family funded Al Qaeda, but they were certainly not the only Saudi Billionaires to do so: in 2002 the golden chain list revealed 18 Saudi businessmen with a combined net worth of $85 billion who had been giving money Osama Bin Laden. The Saudi connection into the attacks continues into various levels of the government, where employees for the ministry of Islamic affairs and the embassy in Washington served as handlers for the hijackers helping them get acclimated in the USA in the lead up to the attacks. Why was all of this covered up by the Bush administration and subsequent presidents? Why isn’t this the scandal of the century? Was all that tower 7 stuff a distraction from the very real conspiracy and cover up carried out right in front of all our faces? We try to wrestle with all those questions and more this week on Grubstakers. Politico long piece going into more detail about some of the accusations against the Saudi government: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/04/saudi-arabia-911-lawyer-214996 There are also allegations that two Saudi government agents carried out a "dry run" of the attacks on US soil in 1999: https://nypost.com/2017/09/09/saudi-government-allegedly-funded-a-dry-run-for-911/

The amount varies depending on the source, because they don’t know how much this Modi family has defrauded the banks of India. Whilst this fraud he was also selling fake diamonds to manufactures around the world as well as close friends, and including Canadian Paul Alfonso who has a lawsuit out for Nirav due to his fiancé leaving him because of being duped for two hundred thousand dollars. All that and more right here on Grubstakers.

Episode 95: Adam Neumann (WeWork)
EThe episode this week describes the hottest new trend in companies that have no conceivable way to make money: launching IPOs and letting the founders dump that problem onto the general investing public. Early 2000s nostalgia is in so we're bringing back dot com pump and dumps. Welcome to the life of Billionaire Adam Neumann and his "company" WeWork, which is cooking its books so blatantly that even the financial newspapers owned by other billionaires have been pointing it out. We explore his humble origin story growing up the rich kid in a Kibbutz on stolen land, his meager start doing business out of the Tribeca apartment his parents paid for, and how the WeWork IPO later this month will solidify him as a billionaire even when the company inevitably crashes and burns. One thing we forgot to mention on the episode: the Brooklyn landlord Joshua Guttman, who gave Adam Neumann the space to start his first company Green Desk, has been linked to numerous mysterious arson fires at his properties. Everything here seems to be on the up and up! https://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/18/nyregion/18landlord.html
